    The Dutton Project

Peter Dutton is a controversial Australian government minister who throughout 2018 was embroiled in a series of conflicts between different factions of his political party, the ruling Liberal-National coalition. Touted as a future leader by the right-wing faction, he led two unsuccessful attempts to topple the leadership of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, with the second attempt leading to the ascension of Scott Morrison as the new Prime Minister. As the government minister responsible for Australia’s offshore detention regime for refugees, he is often characterised and caricatured by his opponents inside and outside the government as unfeeling, unemotional and lacking compassion. After coming across a press photograph in which Dutton’s expression and stance seemed to me to represent a particular dark, even evil demeanour, I created a Photoshop template and added backgrounds to place him in three locations – a stormy beach by a dark ocean; a swamp, and beside a large, dilapidated sculpture of the Disney character Mickey Mouse. I posted the three images, together with the template, on Twitter and Facebook, and invited the public to contribute their own collages. This resulted in a collection of approximately 75 images. The online news magazine Junkee published an article entitled “Please Enjoy This Terrible Picture Of Peter Dutton Photoshopped Into Iconic Dystopian Scenes”, which included my three images and six others

Was Odard, First Lord of Dutton, a Distant Relative of William the Conqueror?

    No full text
According to the Dutton tree researched by antiquarian P. H. Lawson, Odard, first Lord of the Manor of Dutton in Cheshire and progenitor of the noted Gentry family the Duttons of Dutton, was related to William the Conqueror on his mother’s and on his father’s side. This article reviews the evidence and argues that Odard was not related to the Conqueror on his mother’s side. Regarding his father’s side, the evidence is perhaps most parsimoniously explained by Odard indeed being a distant relative of the Conqueror’s. However this conclusion is only fractionally more persuasive than the opposite one and accordingly there is good reason to seriously doubt it and reserve judgement

Recorded at Avatar studios in Quebec City, this CD contains 21 solo improvisational sound pieces made by the Canadian artist between 1970 and 2000. Dutton introduces his practice concerned with the fusion of language and music, and exploring the limits of expression through sound. He describes this work as oral rather than vocal, as it exceeds the human voice, and attempts to clarify this idea through a description of a jazz-inspired piece and other works integrating songs and noises with repeated words. Includes some biographical information
