Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textKentsel dönüşüm günümüzde kentbilim çalışmalarının ve kent sosyolojisinin en odak noktalarından biridir. Özellikle 1950'li ve 1960'lı yıllardan sonra kentler aşırı göç almaya başlamıştır. Göç edenler kentin dış bölgelerinde gecekondu diye adlandırılan yeni bir yerleşim birimleri oluşturmuştur. 2000'li yıllarda kentsel dönüşüm uygulamalarının yasal bir zemine oturtulmasından sonra, gecekondu bölgelerinde hızlı bir kentsel dönüşüm uygulaması başlatılmıştır. Günümüzde ise, kentlerdeki hızlı nüfus artışından dolayı kentsel dönüşüm uygulamaları sadece gecekondu bölgelerine uygulanmamaktadır. Kentin ara sokaklarındaki müstakil evlerden kentin köhnemiş, sağlıksız ve adı suç ile anılan bölgelerini de kapsamaktadır. Yapılan kentsel dönüşüm uygulamaları ile kente yeni bir mimari ve estetik hüviyet kazandırılmaktadır. Son zamanlarda Türkiye'nin birçok ilinde olduğu gibi Konya'da da kentsel dönüşüm faaliyetleri uygulanmaktadır. Uygulanan bu faaliyetler sonucunda sadece Konya'nın mimari yapısı değiştirilmemektedir. Değişen mimari yapıya paralel olarak kentin kültürel yapısı da değişmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasında kentsel dönüşümün, toplumsal dinamikler olarak belirlediğimiz mahalle hayatı, gündelik hayat ve komşuluk ilişkileri üzerinde bir etkisinin olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda kentsel dönüşümün, toplumsal dinamikler üzerindeki etkisini daha net görebilmek adına mülakat tekniği kullanılarak sahaya inilmiştir. Sahadan toplanan veriler ışığında kentsel dönüşümün özellikle mahalle ve komşuluk ilişkileri üzerinde olumsuz bir etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kentsel dönüşüm konusunda Konya üzerine yapılan çalışmalar parça parça ve sınırlı sayıdadır. Bu bakımdan, çalışmanın kentsel dönüşümün dinamikleri adı altında, kentin olmazsa olmazı olan mahalle, komşuluk ilişkileri, gündelik hayat ve apartmanlaşma olgularını bütüncül bir yapıda ele almasının hem çalışmaya özgünlük katması hem de Konya üzerine ve kentsel dönüşüm üzerine daha sonra yapılacak çalışmalar için bir literatür oluşturabileceği düşünülmektedir.Urban renewal is one of the center points of urban science and sociology of urban studies nowadays. Particularly, in the 1950s and 1960s, people started migrating to cities intensively. Immigrants mainly, located accommodation units in the external zones of cities which were called slum. In the 2000s, after urban renewal practice was legalised, rapid urban renewal practice has been started in the slum regions. As for today, because of rapid population increase, not only has urban renewal practice been carried out in the slum regions but it has contained detached houses that are in the back street of cities and regions which are ruined, poor and criminal as well. It has been redounded a new architecture and aesthetics characteristics to cities through performed urban renewal practice. Recently, urban renewal has been implemented in many cities of Turkey as well as Konya. As a result of urban renewal practice, not only has not the architecture structure of Konya been changed, but in parallel to changed architecture structure, the cultural structure of city has altered, too. In this study, it has been researched whether there is an impact of urban renewal on the social dynamics of city which are local life, daily life and neighbourhood relations. In this regard, it has been used interview method from qualitative methods in order to gain the impact of urban renewal on the social dynamics. It has been investigated that urban renewal has a negative impact on local and neighbourhood relationships through the data that was obtained from the field. Studies which have been performed on Konya regarding urban renewal are limited and in bits. Therefore, in terms of dynamics of urban renewal, this study deals with district, neighborhood relations, daily life, and apartment life style facts in an integrated perspective. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
