Ghayat al-amani and the life and times of al-Hadi Yahya b. al-Husayn: an introduction, newly edited text and translation with detailed annotation
The thesis is anchored upon a text extracted from an important 11th / 17th century Yemeni historical work. This text deals primarily with al-Hādī ilā 'I-Haqq, the founder of the Zaydī Imamate in the Yemen that lasted well over a thousand years. AI-Hādīs imamate, of considerable significance in itself, also coincides with one of the most turbulent periods of early Yemeni mediaeval history. The- edited Arabic text, with its accompanying apparatus criticus. Is to be found at the opposite end of this volume. The Introduction considers various aspects of Imam al-Hadī’s life, religious ideas and aspirations and matters directly connected with the edited text and the work of which it forms a part. Among the most important subjects discussed are the MSS used in the production of the edited text, the problem concerning the authorship of Ghāyat al-amānī and the relationship of the latter work to Anbā' al-zaman. A short biography of al-Hādī is provided, together with a treatment of the historical background to ai-Hādīs imamate. The introduction also describes the editorial method followed with regard to the text, and certain key personal names and toponyms are dealt with there. The method employed by the author of the Ghāyat is to record the events of any one year by Itself. I have translated one year at a time and then followed it by the annotations appertaining to it. It is hoped that by means of these annotations. (some of which through necessity are quite detailed ), the text will be better understood. The numerous personages, tribal names and toponyms are considered, as well as problems concerning points of chronology and various matters of historical and religious significance. Specific comment is made upon certain interesting terms or any unusual or striking vocabulary. The thesis concludes with maps, genealogical tables and a comprehensive bibliography
The New symbols in Ali Muhammad Farshi’s poems
Symbolism is a technique for writers to express their motives. Whenever freedom of speech is restricted, writers use symbolism as tool. Quranic-Inspired Scientific Discoveries: A Focused Study of Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram Chaudhry's Views
This study investigates the enduring semantic stability of the Quranic text over 14 centuries, contrasting it with the semantic drift observed in other languages and religious texts. Drawing upon the scholarly work of Professor Emeritus Muhammad Akram Chaudhry, a prominent scholar of Quranic studies, this research examines the claim that Quranic vocabulary has maintained a consistent relationship between word and meaning throughout its transmission. This study explores the implications of this alleged semantic stability for understanding the Quran's relationship with scientific discoveries and natural laws. It analyzes selected Quranic verses related to natural phenomena, comparing classical and contemporary interpretations to assess the extent to which these interpretations have remained consistent over time. The research further considers the argument that a significant portion of the Quran (approximately one-fifth, according to Chaudhry) pertains to the laws of nature, exploring how this claim informs our understanding of the Quran's enduring relevance. By examining the interplay between linguistic stability, scientific interpretation, and the Quran's focus on humanity and the natural world, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the Quran's unique status and its enduring impact

Performance of Forward Osmosis Using Various Membranes
A Master of Science thesis in Chemical Engineering by Muhammad Qasim entitled, "Performance of Forward Osmosis Using Various Membranes," submitted in January 2013. Thesis advisor is Dr. Raafat Alnaizy and Co-Advisor Dr. Ahmad Aidan. Available are both soft and hard copies of the thesis. As a result of water scarcity, increasing demand for freshwater, and energy intensive nature of the conventional desalination processes, advancing the science of desalination is crucial in the development of sustainable new technologies. With this in view, this research explores an energy-efficient desalination process, namely forward osmosis (FO). In this thesis, two FO apparatus were constructed for the desalination of brackish and seawater. The first apparatus consisted of a simple U-tube while the second apparatus used a submerged membrane to desalinate saline feed. The water flux performance of two commercial FO membranes was evaluated. The U-tube FO apparatus utilized a cellulose acetate membrane and magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) draw solution. Using 240,000 ppm of MgSO4 draw solution, the membrane achieved an average water flux of 4.06 L/m2 h and 0.60 L/m2 h in case of brackish and seawater feed, respectively. Pure product water with a salt content of 350 ppm was recovered from the diluted MgSO4 draw solution. On the other hand, the submerged membrane apparatus utilized a proprietary FO membrane and copper sulfate (CuSO4) draw solution. The copper sulfate draw solution was found to be suitable only for desalination of brackish water and an average water flux of 3.01 L/m2 h was observed using 200,000 ppm of CuSO4 draw solution. Pure water with 100 ppm of dissolved solids was recovered from the diluted CuSO4 draw solution. For the first time, metathesis precipitation reaction was used to recover pure product water from the diluted draw solution in the FO process. The magnesium sulfate or copper sulfate draw solution was reacted with stoichiometric amount of barium hydroxide to remove the soluble draw solute as a mixture of precipitates. The use of magnesium sulfate or copper sulfate as draw solute required no energy for product water recovery. Both the draw solutions were completely recovered at the end of the experiments for recycle and reuse in the FO process.
