Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Get PDFThe article quantifies the impact of investments in artificial intelligence, digital maturity, level of automation, profitability and revenues on the market capitalisation of enterprises using the tools of regression analysis. On the basis of a sample of 44 innovatively active companies, an econometric model is built to identify the degree of determination of capitalisation by key technological and financial parameters. The modeling results show a high explanatory power of the model, which indicates a significant impact of the selected factors on the value of enterprises. Profit, AI investments, automation level, and revenue were identified as statistically significant predictors of capitalisation, while digital maturity (DIGMAT) did not show a significant effect.
To achieve this goal, the authors used the regression analysis method, in particular, they built a model that assesses the relationship between company capitalisation and digital indicators. The study used data from open sources, including financial statements of companies included in the S&P 500 index. The main findings of the analysis indicate that digitalisation and, in particular, investments in AI have a statistically significant positive impact on the capitalisation of enterprises. It was found that each additional billion dollars of investment in AI can increase the market value of a company by an average of $1-1.4 billion.
The study develops and tests an econometric model that quantifies the impact of certain technological factors on the market capitalisation of enterprises. In contrast to traditional approaches, where digital transformation is analysed mainly in the context of increasing labour productivity or operational efficiency, this paper focuses on the strategic aspect - the formation of the market value of a business. The findings allow us to expand the scientific and practical understanding of the mechanisms of capitalisation of enterprises in the digital era and identify critical points of influence of digital technologies on economic performance. The obtained results are of practical value for the strategic planning of innovative activities of enterprises in the context of digital transformation of the economy.У статті здійснено кількісне оцінювання впливу інвестицій у штучний інтелект, цифрову зрілість, рівень автоматизації, прибутковості та доходів на ринкову капіталізацію підприємств із використанням інструментарію регресійного аналізу. На основі вибірки з 44 інноваційно активних компаній побудовано економетричну модель, що дозволяє виявити ступінь детермінації капіталізації ключовими технологічними та фінансовими параметрами. Результати моделювання засвідчили високу пояснювальну здатність моделі, що свідчить про вагомий вплив обраних факторів на вартість підприємств. Статистично значущими предикторами капіталізації визначено прибуток, інвестиції в AI, рівень автоматизації та дохід, у той час як цифрова зрілість (DIGMAT) не продемонструвала суттєвого ефекту.
Для досягнення цієї мети автори застосували метод регресійного аналізу, зокрема побудували модель, яка оцінює взаємозв’язок між капіталізацією компаній і цифровими індикаторами. У дослідженні використано дані з відкритих джерел, зокрема фінансову звітність компаній, що входять до індексу S&P 500. Основні результати аналізу вказують на те, що цифровізація і, зокрема, інвестиції в ШІ мають статистично значущий позитивний вплив на капіталізацію підприємств. Виявлено, що кожен додатковий мільярд доларів інвестицій в ШІ може збільшувати ринкову вартість компанії в середньому на 1-1.4 млрд доларів.
У дослідженні розроблено та апробовано економетричну модель, яка кількісно відображає вплив окремих технологічних чинників на ринкову капіталізацію підприємств. На відміну від традиційних підходів, де цифрова трансформація аналізується переважно в контексті підвищення продуктивності праці або операційної ефективності, у даній роботі акцент зроблено на стратегічному аспекті – формуванні ринкової вартості бізнесу. Отримані результати дозволяють розширити науково-практичні уявлення про механізми капіталізації підприємств у цифрову епоху та виявити критичні точки впливу цифрових технологій на економічні результати. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
