The Framework for Integrated Water Management in the Thua Thien-Hue Province
The Thua Thien-Hue province is located in the centre of Vietnam. It is characterized by the short distance between the mountains in the west and the coast of the South China Sea in the east. Two large rivers flow through the province, fed by multiple smaller rivers from the mountains. The Bo River flows through the northern part of the province and ends up in the Cau Hai lagoon. The Huong River is the largest of the two and flows through Hue city ending in the Cau Hai lagoon. The coastal zone of the Thua Thien-Hue province knows a lot of water related problems, like salt intrusion and drought in the dry season and both pluvial and alluvial flooding in the rainy season. Tackling these problems requires an integrated approach that considers all problems, functions and stakeholders. This project will aim to apply a Framework for Integrated Water Management to the Thua Thien-Hue province to minimize the water related problems in the future. This framework assigns different return periods for flooding per area. An area with a high population density will suffer more damage during a flood than a rice paddy, and should have a smaller chance of flooding in order to make the water defence system economically justifiable. This way, a map is created that indicates the desired chance on flooding throughout the coastal, flood prone area of the Thua Thien-Hue province. Using a SOBEK 2D model, the flooding can be simulated. The results from this model show that the amount of water that enters the area is too large to apply traditional protection by raising dikes. Also, most houses are built near the riverbanks, making the implementation of dikes problematic. Two possible solutions were considered. The first, consisting of two bypasses, showed unrealistic as the capacity of the second bypass was insufficient. The second scenario, called “Lake Hue”, uses a reservoir as a retention area during extreme events. A dam regulates the discharge towards Hue City while a spillway towards an area with a lower population density takes care of excess water. An initial cost benefit analysis, using the results from the SOBEK model, indicates a payback time of fifteen years. After the design lifetime of 50 years, the initial investment is returned twofold.Hydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience

Overview of van chai in Thue Thien Hue, Vietnam: Tradition, present and future challenges
During process of seeking methods of advanced fishery management experience to apply into small-scale fishery in Thua Thien Hue – Viet Nam, the author is surprised that some advanced countries also apply similar methods that the traditional fishing village associations (Van Chai) has been managed fishery activities in lagoons in Thua Thien Hue since feudal times. The changes by returning back to original points in order to connect and glue the traditional quintessences of fisheries management, to advanced management in foreign countries is a core in an argued approach as well as in reality of managing small - scale fishery in Thua Thien Hue- Viet Nam presently.
Based on that, this report has introduced previous fishery management in Tam Giang lagoon based on traditional fishery villages, to research ways to reform the management of small scale fisheries based upon local fisher’s associations; outlined a scenarios for fishery management patters for future based on local community in Thua Thien Hue. The system expect to solve disputes in term of fishermen, fishing grounds and fishery resources.
The report is a synthesized collection from researches of the author and relevant documents available. The findings show that fishery villages in Thua Thien Hue used to be successfully managed fishery resources through its own mechanism (regulations) and actively support of feudal authorities (a form of primary co-management) and practical experience derived from efforts to manage modern fishery. In Thua Thien Hue at present, the selectively inheritance of traditional values of fishery villages is one of potential ways in managing fishery in Tam Giang lagoon specifically.KEYWORDS: Van Chai, Fishery management, Thue Thien Hue, Vietnam, Small-scale fishery, Fisheries economics, Fishery resource
Marketing Plan for lightweight concrete in Southern Vietnam : Case: Thien Nam Phuong Co, Ltd
The essence of developing a marketing plan for a company is the core value of entire marketing process. It is created to ensure that the company’s capabilities are matched to the competitive market environment in which it operates, not just for today but into the foreseeable future.
This final thesis is commissioned by Thien Nam Phuong Co, Ltd in order to create an initial marketing plan for a new production line of lightweight concrete (as known as lightweight bricks) in the South of Vietnam. The thesis holds on specific information regarding internal and external environments, market opportunities as well as a detail marketing plan. Another aim is to find the right marketing strategy for Thien Nam Phuong Ltd to establish its new core business in a whole new industry. By developing a strategic marketing plan, the author expects Thien Nam Phuong to find out a right path to enter the Southern Market of Vietnam.
The thesis focuses on the initial information which is supported by Thien Nam Phuong Ltd (TNP Ltd) as well as the interviews with experts in related industries. By analyzing the target market, the author hopes TNP Ltd may find its competitive advantages and strategic positioning in the market as well as understanding the marketing strategy in order to achieve its objectives

Synthesis of N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-[2-(thien-2’-yl)benzoxazol-5-yl]-l-alanine methyl ester
The aim of this work is the synthesis of a fluorescent heterocyclic amino acid, namely a benzoxazolyl-
alanine, using simple experimental techniques and commercially available reagents.
The starting aminotyrosine derivative and thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde will be combined in an
oxidative cyclization to the oxazole in the presence of an oxidizing agent. The determination of
the structure of the compound synthesized will be performed by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy.
The experiment involves 3 sessions including the preparation of the intermediate N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-
3-[(thien-2′-ylmethylene)amino]-l-tyrosine methyl ester and the preparation and
purification of N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl[2-(thien-2′-yl)benzoxazol-5-yl]-l-alanine methyl ester.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
