Proper Ferroelectricity in the Dion?Jacobson Material CsBi2Ti2NbO10: Experiment and Theory

    Get PDF
A diverse range of materials and properties are exhibited by layered perovskites. We report on the synthesis, characterization, and computational investigation of a new ferroelectric?CsBi2Ti2NbO10, an n = 3 member of the Dion?Jacobson (DJ) family. Structural studies using variable temperature neutron powder diffraction indicate that a combination of octahedral rotations and polar displacements result in the polar structure. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the wider perovskite blocks in CsBi2Ti2NbO0 stabilize proper ferroelectricity, in contrast to the hybrid-improper ferroelectricity reported for all other DJ phases. Our results raise the possibility of a new class of proper ferroelectric materials analogous to the well-known Aurivillius phases

During 2015-2016, DION, the interest organization for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at NTNU, conducted an analysis of the various PhD duty work (aka pliktarbeid, aka teaching load) related definitions, best practices and processes in place throughout NTNU. All faculties were invited to respond to a questionnaire regarding PhD budget practices, and a total of 7 faculty and 10 department responses were received. The following report presents findings from this survey. A variety of definitions and processes exists, some of which need unification and refinement. Based on the analysis as well as legacy material and DION case history, measures are proposed as summarized in the conclusion how to address the current situation

    Mark Dion : Two Essays

With scientific, historical, artistic and social considerations - including numerous quotations - Dion's two essays focus on birds as perceived by humans, symbolically and in everyday life. The artist also provides insight into his own work (the bird illustrations are from a series of Cibachromes produced by Dion in 1998) as well as that of French photographer Jean-Luc Mylayne, to whom the second essay is dedicated. 13 bibl. ref

During 2015-2016, DION, the interest organization for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at NTNU, conducted an analysis of the various PhD budget (aka driftsmidler or working capital) related definitions, best practices and processes in place throughout NTNU. All faculties were invited to respond to a questionnaire regarding PhD budget practices, and a total of 7 faculty and 10 department responses (9 of which only responded to the duty work part which is covered in a concurrent report) were received. The following report presents findings from this survey. A variety of definitions and processes exists, some of which need unification and refinement. Based on the analysis as well as legacy material and DION case history, measures are proposed as summarized in the conclusion how to improve the current system for doctoral candidates
