Rafael Tasis, foundations of a genre
Rafael Tasis was a pioneer of the Catalan thriller or detective novel. He was also a prominent literary critic, librarian, journalist and political activist. He is the author of the trilogy comprising La bíblia valenciana, Es hora de plegar and Un crim al Paralelo. His theoretical contributions to the novel and to this genre in particular were very important, testament to his enormous capacity for work. Tasis theorised on the detective genre and realised, before anyone else in Catalonia, the importance of the so-called American noir novel. He was also an advocate for an unpublished writer, Manuel de Pedrolo, who would later be considered the most important Catalan writer of the twentieth century. As a novelist and literary critic, he bore witness to the life and atmosphere of Barcelona and to the attractiveness of using the urban material of the city as a plot for the novel. Tasis was not only an intellectual concerned with public affairs but also a writer with a permanent sense of social duty

Recent Progress on the Synthesis of Graphene-Based Nanostructures as Counter Electrodes in DSSCs Based on Iodine/Iodide Electrolytes
Graphene-based nanomaterials functionalized by different doping strategies have attracted great attention for energy conversion themes, due to their large specific surface area, high conductivity, and appreciable electrocatalytic properties. This mini-review presents an overview of the recent progress in the synthesis of graphene-based nanomaterials as counter electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells based on iodine/iodide electrolytes, along with challenges and perspectives in this exciting field
Methods for Improving the Integration of FunctionalizedCarbon Nanotubes in Polymers
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are crystalline, tubular, carbon structures with extraordinary mechanical, chemical, optical, and electrical properties. These unique properties make CNTs potentially valuable in a wide range of end-use applications. We review various nanotube/polymer composite fabrication methods including physical mixing in solution, infiltration of monomers in the presence of a nanotube mat and chemical functionalization of CNTs by plasma treatment highlighting the current opportunities for efficiently translating the extraordinary properties of carbon nanotubes to polymer matrices in hopes of facilitating progress in this emerging area
Photocatalytic Evolution of Hydrogen Peroxide: A Minireview
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has demonstrated applicability in a wide range of applications, spanning from a bleaching agent in the pulp industry, environmental remediation, and fuel cell technology. Industrial scale synthesis, either by the anthraquinone method or catalytic oxidation of hydrogen gas, has serious drawbacks which are related with energy demanding and multi-step processes. An alternative green strategy involves the photocatalytic synthesis of H2O2. All that is needed is the renewable energy of the sun, a semiconducting species absorbing in the visible region, water, and oxygen. In this minireview, we describe the evolution of research milestones that have been achieved within the recent decades regarding the development of functional photocatalytic systems. In the early studies, back in the 1980’s, TiO2-based systems were mostly investigated. However, due to the large band gap of titania (3.2 eV), alternative semiconductors were studied which strongly absorb in the visible region. Thus, a variety of semiconductor families have been investigated, such as doped titania systems, other metal oxides, metal sulfides, organic semiconductors, metal-organic frameworks, carbon nitride systems, etc. In parallel, the development of functional dopants onto the surface of the main semiconductor has lead to both the inhibition of electron-hole recombination and H2O2 degradation. The current minireview collectively provides the studies of the higher H2O2 production rates and offer some suggestions for the near future
A study of the historical academic works, especially those regarding Catalonias
past, published in the Revista de Catalunya, both during its initial phase (1924 -1967) and also its renaissance as from 1986. The author highlights the
collaboration of eminent historians such as Antoni Rovira i Virgili, Ferran Soldevila, Pere Bosch Gimpera, Lluís Nicolau dOlwer, Rafael Tasis i Marca and many others from the second phase
