Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Use of Industrial Waste in Road Embankment
No full textThe scarcity of soil which suits for construction activities by fulfilling geotechnical characteristics is forcing the pavement engineers to look for alternative materials for construction activity. On the other hand due to the rapid industrialization there is sharp increase in the number of crushing units, steel producing factories in so many states and the country as well. The crusher dust and Blast furnace slag obtained from these industries are collected and tested for various geotechnical characterizations. The suitability of partial or full replacement is checked by conducting CBR tests on various mix portions. In the present investigation, crushed stone as coarse aggregate mixed with Crusher Dust, Blast Furnace Slag and Sand as fine aggregate and tested for compaction OMC and MDD and strength CBR characteristics to suit as base course material along with their relative performance. It is also studied partial replacement of Crusher Dust, Sand by Slag particles 50 with respect to their gradation mixes. From all the studies it is identified that average gradation obtained higher VBR values than lower and upper gradation for all types of fine aggregates due to their dense or compactness by possessing effective well graded conditions. Lower gradations obtained CBR values nearing to their average gradation which are higher than upper gradation mixes. The same trends are also observed in case of 50 replacement. Hence replacement of natural soil like gravel, sand by crusher dust and slag particles with their maximum utilization such as partial or full replacement with crushed stone particles attaining CBR values greater than 80 can be used in road construction as base course material. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Vibration control of rectangular cross-ply FRP plates using PZT materials
No full textPiezoelectric materials are extensively employed in the field of structures for
condition monitoring, smart control and testing applications. The piezoelectric
patches are surface bonded to a composite laminate plate and used as vibration
actuators. The coupling effects between the mechanical and electric properties
of piezoelectric materials have drawn significant attention for their potential
applications. In the present work, an analytical solution of the vibration
response of a simply supported laminate rectangular plate under time harmonic
electrical loading is obtained and a concept is developed for an approximate
dynamic model to the vibration response of the simply supported orthotropic
rectangular plates excited by a piezoelectric patch of variable rectangular
geometry and location. A time harmonic electric voltages with the same
magnitude and opposite sign are applied to the two symmetric piezoelectric
actuators, which results in the bending moment on the plate. The main objective
of the work is to obtain an analytical solution for the vibration amplitude of
composite plate predicted from plate theory. The results demonstrate that the
vibration modes can be selectively excited and the geometry of the PZTactuator
shape remarkably affects the distribution of the response among
modes. Thus according to the desired degree shape control it is possible to tailor
the shape, size and properly designed control algorithm of the actuator to either
excite or suppress particular modes
