    Se exponen cuatro grandes líneas interpretativas propuestas por la etnología americanista a la hora de entender la guerra indígena en las tierras bajas sudamericanas, en particular en la Amazonía y el Gran Chaco: la antropología política clastreana (la ´guerra contra el Estado´), el argumento neoestructuralista (lo bélico como mecanismo de reproducción sociocosmológica), la lectura etnohistórica (que privilegia la materialidad de la guerra en contextos de cambio social) y la explicación biológico-evolutiva (la guerra como mecanismo adaptativo).
