NS-PHE and NS-OXY (both original and kids) had antimicrobial activity toward R. dentocariosa and comparable biocompatibility with hDPSCs.     Probing Primordial Features with the Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background

    The stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) offers a new opportunity to observe signals of primordial features from inflationary models. We study their detectability with future space-based gravitational waves experiments, focusing our analysis on the frequency range of the LISA mission. We compute gravitational wave spectra from primordial features by exploring the parameter space of a two-field inflation model capable of generating different classes of features. Fine-tuning in scales and amplitudes is necessary for these signals to fall in the observational windows. Once they show up, several classes of frequency-dependent oscillatory signals, characteristic of different underlying inflationary physics, may be distinguished and the SGWB provides a window on dynamics of the primordial universe independent of cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure. To connect with future experimental data, we discuss two approaches of how the results may be applied to data analyses. First, we discuss the possibility of reconstructing the signal with LISA, which requires a high signal-to-noise ratio. The second more sensitive approach is to apply templates representing the spectra as estimators. For the latter purpose, we derive templates that can accurately capture the spectral features of several classes of feature signals and compare them with the SGWB produced by other physical mechanisms

    Generating primordial features at large scales in two field models of inflation

    We investigate the generation of features at large scales in the primordial power spectrum (PPS) when inflation is driven by two scalar fields. In canonical single field models of inflation, these features are often generated due to deviations from the slow-roll regime. While deviations from slow-roll can be naturally achieved in two field models due to a sharp turn in the trajectory in the field space, features at the largest scales of the types suggested by CMB temperature anisotropies are more difficult to achieve in models involving two canonical scalar fields due to the presence of isocurvature fluctuations. We show instead that a coupling between the kinetic terms of the scalar fields can easily produce such features. We discuss models whose theoretical predictions are consistent with current observations and highlight the implications of our results

    A Unified Shell model for Buoyancy-Driven Turbulence

    We construct a unified shell model for stably stratified and convective turbulence. Shell model simulation of stably stratified flow in turbulent regime exhibit Bolgiano-Obukhbov (BO) scaling in which the kinetic energy spectrum varies as k11/5k^{-11/5}. However, simulation of convective turbulence shows Kolmogorov's spectrum. These results are consistent with the direct numerical simulations of Kumar {\em et al.} [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 90}, 023016 (2014)]. We also observe a dual scaling (k11/5k^{-11/5} and k5/3k^{-5/3}) for a limited range of parameters in stably stratified flow

    Protocol Description, Raw Data Results, and Figure Data from collaboration between Earth and Environmental Science and the School of Dentistry.This raw data set supports publication found in Letters in Applied Microbiology: The uptake and storage of extracellular orthophosphate (Pi) by polyphosphate (polyP) accumulating bacteria may contribute to mineral dissolution in the oral cavity. To test the effect of potential inhibitors of polyP kinases on Rothia dentocariosa, gallein (0, 25, 50, 100 µM) and fluoride (0, 50, 100 ppm) were added to R. dentocariosa cultures grown in brain heart infusion broth. At late log growth phase (8h), extracellular Pi was measured using an ascorbic acid assay, and polyP was isolated from bacterial cells treated with RNA/DNAases using a neutral phenol/chloroform extraction. Extracts were hydrolyzed and quantified as above. Gallein and fluoride had minor effects on bacterial growth with NaF having a direct effect on media pH. Gallein (≥25 µM) and fluoride (≥50 ppm) attenuated the bacterial drawdown of extracellular Pi 56.7% (p <0.05) and 37.3% (p <0.01). There was a corresponding polyP synthesis decrease of 73.2% (p<0.0001) from gallein and 83.1% (p<0.0001) from fluoride. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy validated the presence of polyP and its reduced concentration in R. dentocariosa bacterial cells following gallein and fluoride treatment.
