No full textDate of Acceptance: 01/2015We present a proof (of the main parts of which there is a formal version, checked with the Isabelle proof assistant) that, for a G3-style calculus covering all of intuitionistic zero-order logic, with an associated term calculus, and with a particular strongly normalising and confluent system of cut-reduction rules, every reduction step has, as its natural deduction translation, a sequence of zero or more reduction steps (detour reductions, permutation reductions or simplifications). This complements and (we believe) clarifies earlier work by (e.g.) Zucker and Pottinger on a question raised in 1971 by Kreisel.Peer reviewe
I remember teaching English at Seabrook
No full textIn this "I remember" memoir, Isabell Waugh, a former teacher at Seabrook, compares and constrasts the different groups of students she taught. She remembers that native-born American teenagers tended to be more concerned with athletics and social activities, than academic matters. In comparison, Estonian and Japanese parents did not tolerate low academic performance, so students from the two groups often competed intensely with each other for academic achievement and recognition. Isabelle recalls that the Estonians were, in general, more sophisticated and better educated. Most of the children knew 3-5 languages, and were more advanced in math and science. She sensed that some Estonian parents felt that their homes at Seabrook were temporary, and that they would be returning to Estonia at some point. The Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center has been soliciting current and past residents of Seabrook Farms for an "I remember" project. Residents are asked to create narratives regarding their experiences at Seabrook Farms. These memories help preserve the history and multi-cultural heritage of Seabrook Farms

Formalization of Isabelle Meta Logic in NuPRL
No full textNuPRL and Isabelle are two general purpose theorem provers. Both of them are based on a version of Constructive Higher Order Type Theory. In an earlier work the author has proposed an informal semantics of Isabelle Meta Logic in an extension of NuPRL Type Theory. An automated converter, based on this semantics, has been developed, that translates Isabelle theorem statements into NuPRL. This work presents a formalization of the above semantics in NuPRL. It starts with a deep embedding of Isabelle type and term syntax into NuPRL Constructive Type Theory. Next, two internal NuPRL functions are defined. One of them maps Isabelle types into NuPRL types and the other maps Isabelle terms into elements of appropriate NuPRL types. These two functions provide an interpretation of Isabelle in NuPRL. Finally, interpretations of all Isabelle Meta Logic rules are proven as theorems in some classical extension of NuPRL Type Theory. This formalization is aimed to provide a more secure foundation for the interaction between two systems
Security modeling and correctness proof using Specware and Isabelle
No full textSecurity modeling is the foundation to formal verification which is a core requirement for high assurance systems. This thesis explores how security models can be built in a simple and expressive manner using the Metaslang specification language in Specware. The models are subsequently translated, via the Specware to Isabelle Interface, to be proven for correctness in Isabelle which is a generic, interactive theorem proving environment. It is found that the translation between Specware and Isabelle is almost seamless and there is much potential in the use of Isabelle/HOL to discharge proof obligations that arise in developing Specware specifications, although the actual proving requires substantial knowledge and experience in logical calculus.Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.Outstanding ThesisSingapore ST Electronics Ltd. author (civilian).http://archive.org/details/securitymodeling10945383

Oslo, Norway, September 18–20, 2019DOF is a novel framework for defining ontologies and enforcing them during document development and evolution. A major goal of DOF is the integrated development of formal certification documents (e. g., for Common Criteria or CENELEC 50128) that require consistency across both formal and informal arguments. To support a consistent development of formal and informal parts of a document, we provide Isabelle/DOF, an implementation of DOF on top of the formal methods framework Isabelle/HOL. A particular emphasis is put on a deep integration into Isabelleâs IDE, which allows for smooth ontology development as well as immediate ontological feedback during the editing of a document. In this paper, we give an in-depth presentation of the design concepts of DOFâs Ontology Definition Language (ODL) and key aspects of the technology of its implementation. Isabelle/DOF is the first ontology language supporting machine-checked links between the formal and informal parts in an LCF-style interactive theorem proving environment. Using interviews with young medical doctors (general practitioners) the author studies the ways they organize their empirical practice (as opposed to theoretical knowledge) and constructs a typology which caracterizes specific modes of professionnal socialization. This leads the author to evaluate the social dimensions of the role of general practitioners.La socialisation professionnelle des étudiants en médecine implique la formation d'un univers conceptuel qui est une sorte de compromis entre le savoir médical et la pratique quotidienne. A partir d'entretiens avec de jeunes médecins généralistes l'auteur a étudié comment les jeunes médecins organisent leur pratique et construit une typologie reflétant ces mécanismes particuliers de socialisation.

Relation entre la satisfaction du personnel, la productivité et la satisfaction des patients: une étude dans les services de revalidation physique
No full textLa satisfaction du patient et du personnel sont considérés comme des indicateurs importants afin de mesurer la qualité dans le secteur hospitalier.<p>Dans les services de revalidation, les rencontres thérapeutes-patients présentent une valeur significative par le temps consacré, l'approche thérapeutique mais également la relation qui découle du processus de soin.<p>L'objectif de la recherche fut d'évaluer la satisfaction du personnel travaillant dans les services de revalidation physique (thérapeutes et techniciens ou assistants) et les différents variables démographiques ou liés à l'environnement du travail ainsi que la satisfaction des patients traités dans ces services.<p><p>Une analyse transversale par questionnaire a permis de mesurer la satisfaction au travail et les éléments de productivité dans les services de revalidation. Simultanément, une enquête concernant la satisfaction des patients a été réalisée dans ces mêmes départements. La recherche fut effectuée au sein de dix centres hospitaliers au moyen d'un questionnaire d'enquête commun basé sur le modèle " Effort- Reward Imbalance" ou “déséquilibre efforts-récompenses” et des informations complémentaires sur les conditions de travail ont étés collectées au moyen de questionnaires spécifiques. L’étude met en évidence des variables démographiques tells l'âge, la nationalité, le niveau d'éducation, ainsi que la charge travail et les types de cas traités comme facteurs significatifs influençant le stress au travail.<p>Les résultats confirment une corrélation positive entre le stress au travail par le déséquilibre Efforts-Récompenses et la performance quantitative (productivité) des thérapeutes en revalidation. Il est basé sur la satisfaction des thérapeutes en fonction des heures de travail, du nombre moyen de patients par jours ainsi que des mesures de productivité élevées du département. En ce qui concerne les récompenses perçues comme positives, le soutien du médecin et du superviseur apparaissent comme facteurs de motivation importants. Il a été également déterminé que les thérapeutes appréciaient la participation et l’expression de son opinion dans la gestion thérapeutique du patient. Bien qu’une corrélation entre la satisfaction des patients et le degré de stress au travail des thérapeutes n’ait pas été démontrée, ces deux mesures varient de manière significative en fonction des types d’hôpitaux et du degré de « Over-commitment » des thérapeutes dans leur travail.<p>Les déterminants essentiels de la satisfaction des patients en revalidation apparaissent toutefois liés à l’intervention du thérapeute tel que sa capacité à rassurer le patient ou la qualité de l’information liée au plan de traitement et doivent être considérés dans l’approche thérapeutique en revalidation.<p>Les résultats de l’étude ont permis de concevoir un modèle systémique de satisfaction et de stress au travail résumant les éléments liés de manière significative au déséquilibre des efforts et récompenses dans les services de revalidation physique et qui pourrait inspirer les directeurs ou gestionnaires hospitaliers a promouvoir une atmosphère de travail positive. <p><p>Patient and staff satisfaction are considered as important indicators to monitor quality in healthcare. In rehabilitation services the patient and therapist encounters are of significant value by the amount of time, the therapeutic approach but also the personal relations in the care process. The aim of the research was to evaluate the staff job satisfaction in physical rehabilitation services and the related variables as well as its correlations to patients’ satisfaction. <p><p>A cross sectional survey approach in the rehabilitation services has measured the job satisfaction and the related elements of productivity. Simultaneously a survey of the patients’ satisfaction was performed. As the research in the physical rehabilitation services was conducted in ten different health care facilities of the Jeddah region, a common assessment tool was utilized based on the Effort Reward Imbalance (ERI) model and complementary information were collected using specifically developed survey questionnaires. Socio-demographic variables such as age, nationality, work specialty, educational levels, as well as the caseload and workload appeared also as significantly influencing job satisfaction. <p>The findings confirmed a positive correlation between the Effort Reward Imbalance and the quantitative performance (productivity) of the rehabilitation staffs. It is supported by the level of job satisfaction of the therapists which is related to the number of patients per day, caseload, hours of work and high productivity measures. From the aspects of positive rewards, the role of the supervisor and doctors appear as important motivators. It was also found that therapists valued the fact of being given the opportunity to participate and discuss opinions in the patient management and quality improvement.<p>While no evidence confirmed a positive correlation between patients’ satisfaction about the rehabilitation treatments and the staff job satisfaction, both measured patients’ and staff satisfaction varied significantly according to the hospital type and the degree of Over-commitment. <p>Essential determinants of patients’ satisfaction appeared however related to the therapists' input, such as the ability to reassure or the quality of information given in the treatment plan and have to be taken into account when delivering the patients’ care.<p>All the results allowed the design of a systemic model of staff job satisfaction resuming the significant related elements of effort and reward in the rehabilitation services and could be utilized to inspire the hospital leaders, managers and executive directors to promote a healthy work life environment based on a valued human resources approach. <p>Doctorat en Sciences de la santé publiqueinfo:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublishe
