On The Removal of Agricultural Price Bands in Chile: A General Equilibrium Analysis
Chile has supported its agriculture with the use of price bands on selected commodities namely wheat, vegetable oils and fats, and sugar. In this paper we consider agricultural reform and how urban unemployment, and rural-urban migration, may alter the expected welfare effects of agricultural reform. We utilize a new CGE model of the Chilean economy based on the Harris-Todaro ramework, incorporating imperfect labor mobility, and consider both price band removal and more extensive agricultural reform that eliminates all tariffs on agricultural and food commodities in Chile. Results show that if trade reforms damage the rural economy in Chile, potential gains in welfare from lower agricultural prices are offset by increased urban unemployment and lower rural wages resulting in net welfare loss from trade reform.
Kontribusi Tokoh Agama Kristen Dalam Menanamkan Nilai Moderasi Beragama Berdasarkan Roma 14:19
This research aims to open the mindset of Christian religious leaders to being directly involved in directing, guiding, and helping people live with mutual respect and love for other religious people. Almost every issue that occurs in society or in cyberspace is always related to religion. Therefore, the author is interested in examining the contribution of religious leaders to religious moderation with a qualitative method, which is studied from relevant sources such as books, articles, and reliable internet sources. The researcher uses a descriptive analysis method to describe the reality that actually occurs in society, especially in the country of Indonesia itself, in connection with religious moderation. The results of this study state that Christian religious leaders are one of the religious elites who are believed to be able to bring Christians to live in harmony and with high tolerance towards other religious communities
Biology and fishery of 'Choo Parai’ Selaroides leptolepis (Cuvier and Valenciennes) 1. Food and feeding habits
Carangids form a commercially important group of fishes in India but
very little work has been done on their biology. The few available references
to the subject being those of Chacko (1949), Mahadevan (1950), Datar
(1954), Kuthalingam (1955 6), Chacko and Mathew (1956) and Vijayaraghavan
(1957) on various species of horse-mackerel. The author, therefore,
took up the study of Selaroides leptolepis (Cuv. & Val.), one of the common
food Carangids of the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Bay in the vicinity of
Mandapam. The work was initiated in May 1957 and was carried out at
the Central Marine Fisheries Research Station, Mandapam Camp. The
present paper deals with the food of this fish
Effect of Bacoside A on growth and biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
The goal of this study was to evaluate the antibiofilm and antimicrobial activities of Bacoside A, a mixture formulation of phytochemicals from Bacopa monnieri against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa which are known to form biofilm as one of their virulence traits. The antimicrobial effects of Bacoside A were tested using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assays. Cell membrane disruption assay was performed to find its possible target site. MTT assay, crystal violet assay and microscopic studies were performed to assess the antibiofilm activity. Bacoside A showed its antimicrobial activity against both the test organisms in their planktonic and biofilm states. It could significantly remove ~88â 93% bacterial biofilm developed on microtiter plate at sub-minimum inhibitory concentration of 200 Âľg mL-1. Biochemical and microscopic studies suggested that the eradication of biofilm might be due to the loss of extracellular polymeric substances and change in cell membrane integrity of the selected bacterial strains treated with Bacoside A. These results indicate that Bacoside A might be considered as an antimicrobial having ability to disrupt biofilms, thus it could alone or in combination with other therapeutics be useful to treat biofilm related infections caused by opportunistic bacterial pathogens. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.
Resorting to allegory at a time when romanticism (finding in Trancendentalism its most potent expression in nineteenth-century America) had declared the figure obsolete, the author risks marginalization in the realm of literature. What, then, accounts for Hawthorne's allegorical inclination ? This dissertation argues that Hawthorne's allegorical practice does not imply the stable correspondence between the sign and the signified that the detractors of allegory condemned. On the contrary, it challenges this postulate and forces its readers to face the unsettling experience of meaninglessness and groundlessnessLILLE3-BU (590092101) / SudocNANTES-BU Lettres (441092102) / SudocSudocFranceF

Spire moderately elevated, outer whorls shouldered below the suture. Periphery slightly shouldered to almost rounded, more distinctly angular in juveniles. Above the periphery, shell shiny with very weak (but distinct) oblique wrinkling, slightly stronger towards the suture and with densely, regularly placed spiral grooves, c. 7–8 per mm. Below the periphery, shell has fine, densely placed spiral grooves. Height up to 16.6 mm; width up to 29.0 mm; diameter of the first three whorls 1.4–1.5, 1.0–1.1, and 2.0– 2.1 mm, respectively; number of whorls up to five and a half; height aperture up to 12.1 mm; width aperture up to 16.0 mm. Genitalia (Fig. 7B): maximum length from genital opening to the end of dart-sac (before the visible gland tubules) up to 19 mm. The penis, dart-sac, and vagina with thick muscular walls. P, V arranged near the GO then followed by BC and DS where there is much space in the atrium between the openings of P + V and BC + DS. BC about two-thirds of total DS length. Animal (Fig. 8J): the whole animal head is uniformly black. The mantle is black and covered by sparsely distributed tiny bright spots and followed by regularly spaced radial black bands at the last half whorl.

Distribution and habitat: Montane primary forest, from 1400 to 2000 m alt. Sabah: Mount Trusmadi, Mount Kinabalu (Fig. 5C).

Remarks: Spiral striation on the shell is the key character for this species. The animals usually have a uniform black head, but there is a rare case where a white stripe is present between the tentacles, which is similar to the pattern in E. klemmantanica. Some immature specimens have only a few spiral striations above the shell near the periphery, and are distinctly shouldered at the periphery. We believe that this species was first collected in 1929 on Mount Kinabalu (1600 m; Pendlebury & Chasen, 1932) and Laidlaw (1937) mentioned that the shells were ‘definitely shouldered at the periphery, and like other Kinabalu specimens seem to me to differ from the type of subconsul in the British Museum’.
Published as part of Liew, Thor-Seng, Schilthuizen, Menno & Vermeulen, Jaap Jan, 2009, Systematic revision of the genus Everettia Godwin-Austen, 1891 (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Dyakiidae) in Sabah, northern Borneo, pp. 515-550 in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 157 (3) on page 536, DOI: 10.1111/j.1096-3642.2009.00526.x, http://zenodo.org/record/5443023
Problem of "Raseiniai tank's" history
Reikšminiai žodžiai: „Raseinių tankas“; Antrasis pasaulinis karas, 1939-1945 (World War II); 'Rasieniai Tank'; The Second World WarDuring the opening days of the German - Soviet war in the area of Raseiniai took place one of the largest tank battles. one episode of this battle is so called history of the tank of Raseiniai. This episode of the initial period of war was researched by some historians, but almost they all used the same sources. Therefore we can find some misconstructions (e.g., that this panzer battle lasted two or even three days), sometimes even solid authors make basic geographical mistakes. Heavy soviet KV tank stopped on the way Raseiniai - iluva and cut a contact between two combat groups of German 6th tank division for a whole day and held up the fast advance of German 41th motorized corps to the east. Attempts to destroy this tank with new 50 mm anti-tank cannon, bombardment of large caliber cannon, the use of engineers with explosives during the night failed. Try to request air support also failed, Luftwaffe has other more important targets. only after delivering one more 88 mm cannon and with help of imitated tank attack, Germans succeeded in destroying the soviet heavy tank. To describe proceeding of the battle, to establish exact times and other facts became possible after review of archival documents (e.g., war diaries, radiograms) which was found in archives. but still there are no answers in some questions. The author hopes that this study will help to find out something more about battles in the territory of Lithuania during first week of war on the Eastern Front
Rule behind the silk curtain: the Sultanahs of Aceh 1641-1699.
PhDThis thesis is about the kingdom of Aceh Dar al-Salam in the latter half of the
seventeenth century when four women ruled in succession: Sultanah Tajul Alam
Safiatuddin Syah (1641-1675), Sultanah Nur Alam Naqiatuddin Syah (1675-1678),
Sultanah Inayat Zakiatuddin Syah (1678-1688) and Sultanah Iamalat Zainatuddin Syah
(1688-1699). How and why these queens came to power, and how they exercised it, are
problems that have fascinated enquirers, prompting a range of comments and
observations, especially the assertion that the queens were mere figureheads, during
whose reigns the male elite (orangkaya) captured power. The Sultanahs were held
responsible for the erosion of royal power and the kingdom's decline in the seventeenth
century. Yet no in-depth study has ever investigated these claims. The main objective of
this thesis is to evaluate the received views on these female sovereigns. The thesis also
seeks to examine the origin, nature and impact of these Sultanahs. Female rule seems a
curious phenomenon in a Muslim state. Furthermore, in a largely patriarchal kingdom
such as Aceh, queens seemed to be strangely out of place. This unique episode in Aceh's
history happened when European Companies - the Dutch VOC (Veerinigde Ooost-Indische
Compagnie) and the English East India Company - were gradually increasing their
commercial hold and flexing their military muscles in the region. Indigenous polities
suffered increasing interference and pressure from Westerners. Most Malay and Muslim
coastal polities in maritime Southeast Asia fell into European intruders' hands. By
exploring the circumstances and arguments surrounding female accession, and
examining some key episodes that show how power worked in Aceh at the time, I hope
to approach a new understanding of how and why the male elite of Aceh placed the fate
of the kingdom in the hands of women, and with what effects
