«Bless yourself included in Union new monasticism...» Letters of Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) to Bishop Boris (Plotnikov) (1886–1900 biennium)

    No full text
The publication presents the letters of Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), one of the most famous bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church the late XIX — early XX century. The letters belong to the early period of the educational and church activities of Metropolitan Anthony (1886–1900). The letters addressed to archimandrite, and on March 1886 Bishop Boris (Plotnikov) — graduate and teacher of the Kazan Theological Academy, and then inspector of the Moscow Theological Academy, rector of the Kiev Theological Seminary and Saint Petersburg Theological Academy. The author of the letters regards the problems of academic monasticism in Russia, theological schools and the general condition of the spiritual life of Russian society 1880–1890-ies. So, Metropolitan Anthony formulates their concept of education of the priesthood and the consolidation of academic monasticism, which, from the point of view of Metropolitan Anthony, must play a crucial role in solving spiritual problems of Russian society. There have been some important features of the spiritual life of the school in one of the most difficult periods of their history. Published letters are in the archive fund bishop Boris (Plotnikov) in the Department of Manuscripts of the National Library of Russia, and researchers have not been used previously

Exploiting genetics to understand paediatric eye disorders

    No full text
The primary aim of this series of investigations was to identify causal risk factors for paediatric eye disorders (e.g. myopia, hyperopia, strabismus and amblyopia). A series of hypotheses was tested in this project by exploiting state-of-the-art genetic and epidemiological approaches such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and Mendelian randomisation (MR). A GWAS for strabismus was performed in order to identify genetic variant(s) conferring susceptibility to the condition. The genetic variant most strongly associated with the phenotype was rs75078292. This SNP, is situated in an LD block on chromosome 17, containing the genes TSPAN10, NPLOC4 and PDE6G. A non-synonymous variant in TSPAN10 – in very high LD with rs75078292 – was previously reported to be associated with myopia. These findings were replicated in a cohort of children (ALSPAC). A Mendelian randomisation approach (both one- and two-sample MR) was used in order to estimate the effect of birth weight within the normal range (2.5 to 4.5kg) on refractive error. The analyses supported the hypothesis that birth weight within normal range plays a causal role in refractive error development. The influence of education on refractive error development was estimated using a Regression Discontinuity design. In this work in UK Biobank, the Raising Of School Leaving Age (ROSLA) 1972 reform was used as a natural experiment; with use of the genetic data such as Principal Components and Polygenic Risk Scores for educational attainment and for refractive error as covariates. The estimated influence of an additional year of education on refractive error development was statistically significant, supporting existing evidence. The hypothesis that hyperopia is causal risk factor for lower educational attainment was tested using non-linear Mendelian randomisation analysis. The results of the analyses revealed that the relationship between refractive error and educational attainment in UK Biobank is non-linear, but did not support the main hypothesis

    Contemporary social management technologies

    No full text
Analyzing the practices of development, application and research in managerial social technologies, the author reveals a number of essential problems in their further development. The revealed problems are combined into three groups: the problems of theory and methodology, the problems of development and the problem of practical application. Basing on the analysis of modern managerial social technologies, the author suggests comprehensive and universal classification that uses the two criteria: the content of technology and its functional relevance. The applied research taken by the author and described in the article reveals that managerial social technologies as a phenomenon are widespread in contemporary managerial practice. However the practice is irregular and not systematic, while its efficiency is still low

Plotnikov, English Language Teacher, Lyceum No. 12, Post-graduate Student, Ural State Pedagogical University (Ekaterinburg), [email protected]В статье рассматривается проблема стратегий перевода поэтического текста и их взаимосвязи с когнитивными установками переводчика и автора-переводчика. The article deals with the problem of translation strategies for poetic text and their interrelation to the cognitive aims of the translator and the author-translator. The purpose of the study is to identify cognitive attitudes and translation strategies when working on English-language texts of Joseph Brodsky's poetic cycle "Part of Speech". The research data is the translation of the cycle by the American writer D. Weisbort, and the author's translation of the literary work. The research methodology is based on the theory of metaphorical modeling, discourse analysis of the language and other methods. Translation strategies and cognitive attitudes of the translators are analyzed through transformations of metaphorical models revealed in the translated texts of Joseph Brodsky's poetic cycle "Part of Speech". The analysis of metaphorical transformations showed that D. Weisbort tends to adequately reconstruct the cognitive system of the author, to maximally preserve images modeling the author's cognitive system in the text of translation. Joseph Brodsky has a different cognitive aim, since the translation of his text is, from a cognitive point of view, secondary for him. The change of the cognitive attitude when working on self-translation is related with the use of the formal poetic translation strategy. The reconstruction of the author's cognitive system in the translation of the American writer is connected with the use of the verbal strategy of poetic translation. From a formal point of view, Daniel Weisbort’s translation is less precise than the author-translator's text

EFFICIENCY OF LAPAROSCOPY FOR PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM POLYTRAUMA WITH PREVAILING ABDOMINAL AND CHEST INJURIES

    No full text
The author analyses the results of diagnostics and treatment of 822 patients suffering from the polytrauma with the prevailing abdominal and thorax injuries. In 428 cases the laparoscopy has been used for diagnosing and treatment. In 150 (35%) cases, no significant injuries have been discovered, and the surgery ended with the abdominal drainage. In 162 (37.9%) cases the laparoscopic surgery was conducted, and in 116 (27.1%) cases the conversion (laparostomy) was done. Operative mortality was 5 (3%) cases
