    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    Fokus penelitian ini tentang peran kepala sekolah dalam mensupervisi guru untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan peran kepala sekolah dalam mensupervisi guru untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah kepala sekolah dan guru. Adapun alasan dibuatnya penelitian ini, untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran melalui supervisi kepala sekolah. Hasil dari wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi dianalisis dan dikelola secara kualitatif, aktivitas data secara kualitatif adalah data reduction, data display, dan conclusion. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kepala sekolah telah berperan dalam mensupervisi guru untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu perencanaan supervisi, pelaksanaan supervisi dan evaluasi supervisi. Adapun pendekatan supervisi yang digunakan adalah pendekatan langsung dan tidak langsung namun pendekatannya lebih dekat dengan supervisi manusiawi. Adapun kendala yang dihadapi kepala sekolah dalam menerapkan supervisi adalah penyingkronan jadwal masing-masing guru yang berbeda yang harus di hubungkan jadwal kepala sekolah terkadang ada acara mendesak, evaluasi dan follow up dari pelaksanaan supervisi membutuhkan waktu yang berkelanjutan agar dapat meningkatkan kinerja guru, dan masih ada guru yang kurang kreatif dan berpikiran terbuka dalam meningkatkan kinerjanya. Adanya upaya yang dilakukan kepala sekolah dalam mengatasi berbagai hambatan dalam mensupervisi guru untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang antara lain dengan melakukan pendekatan kolaboratif yaitu memadukan cara pendekatan langsung dan pendekatan tidak langsung. Pendekatan langsung ditunjukan dengan adanya upaya kepala sekolah untuk aktif mendekati guru untuk mengetahui kendala dalam pembelajaran, atau melakukan observasi langsung ketika proses pembelajaran. Sedangkan pendekatan tidak langsung yang dilakukan yaitu dengan adanya keterbukaan dari kepala sekolah maupun tim dalam menerima konsultasi dari guru apabila ada permasalahan. Dengan demikian ada dua arah pendekatan yang dilakukan oleh kepala sekolah dalam menjalankan proses supervisi. The focus of this study is on the role of the principal in supervising teachers to improve teachers' skills in developing learning implementation plans. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of the principal in supervising teachers to improve teachers' skills in developing learning implementation plans. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach using the case study method. Participants in this study were the principal and teachers. The reason for this study was to improve teachers' skills in developing learning implementation plans through principal supervision. The results of interviews, observations and documentation were analyzed and managed qualitatively, qualitative data activities were data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that the principal has played a role in supervising teachers to improve teachers' skills in developing learning implementation plans through several stages, namely supervision planning, supervision implementation and supervision evaluation. The supervision approach used is a direct and indirect approach, but the approach is closer to human supervision. The obstacles faced by the principal in implementing supervision are synchronizing the schedules of each different teacher which must be connected to the principal's schedule, sometimes there are urgent events, evaluation and follow-up of the implementation of supervision require continuous time in order to improve teacher performance, and there are still teachers who are less creative and open-minded in improving their performance. There are efforts made by the principal in overcoming various obstacles in supervising teachers to improve teacher skills in developing learning implementation plans, including by taking a collaborative approach, namely combining direct and indirect approaches. The direct approach is shown by the principal's efforts to actively approach teachers to find out obstacles in learning, or to conduct direct observations during the learning process. While the indirect approach taken is through openness from the principal and team in receiving consultations from teachers if there are problems. Thus, there are two directions of approach taken by the principal in carrying out the supervision process

    Latar belakang dari penelitian ini adalah timbulnya rasa penasaran terhadap novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri tentang kehirupan Masyarakat Sunda zaman dulu yang masih kental dengan kebudayaannya. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur cerita dan aspek-aspek antropologi sastra yang terkandung di dalam novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri. Dalam pemaparannya, penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Objek penelitian utama di dalam tulisan ini adalah novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri. Data yang diperoleh untuk menulis artikel ini diambil dari catatan-catatan hasil pengkajian dari analisis studi pustaka. Secara garis besar, hasil dari penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua. Pertama, penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri memiliki struktur cerita yang terdiri dari tema, fakta cerita (alur, karakter, latar), dan sarana sastra (judul, sudut pandang, dan gaya bahasa). Kedua, di dalam novel ini pun ditemukan empat aspek antropologi sastra, yakni masa lampau, kearifan lokal, folklor (sastra lisan dan tradisi lisan), dan mitos. Kesimpulannya adalah di dalam novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri terkandung nilai-nilai kemasyarakatan yang dapat menambah pengalaman membaca karya sastra. Kasang tukang tina ieu panalungtikan nyaéta ku ayana kapanasaran ngeunaan novel Dina Kalangkang Panjara karya Ahmad Bakri patali jeung kahirupan masarakat Sunda baheula anu masih kentel ku kabudayaan.
