    Get PDF
An on-line adaptive artificial neural network (ANN)-based controller has been developed for an experimental DX A/C system. It controls the indoor air temperature and humidity simultaneously by varying the compressor speed and supply fan speed in a space served by the experimental DX A/C system. The ANN-based direct inverse control (DIC) strategy was adopted in the development of the controller and the specialized training method was used to on-line update an ANN-based model and an inverse model used in the controller. The controllability tests including the command following test and the disturbance rejection test were carried out using the experimental DX A/C system, and the test results showed that the on-line adaptive ANN-based controller developed was able to control indoor air dry-bulb temperature and wet-bulb temperature outside the operating conditions within which the models were trained, with a high control accuracy

Tooeleite is an unique ferric arsenite sulfate mineral, which has the potential significance of directly fixing As(III) as mineral trap. The tooeleite and various precipitates were hydrothermally synthesized under the different of initial As(III)/As(V) molar ratios and characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS and SEM. The crystallinity of tooeleite decreases with the amount of As(V). The precipitate is free of any crystalline tooeleite at the level of that XRD could detect when the ratio of As(III)/As(V) of 7:3 and more. The characteristic bands of tooeleite are observed in 772, 340, 696 and 304 cm−1, which are assigned to the ν1, ν2, ν3 and ν4 vibrations of AsO33−. These intensities of bands gradually decreases with the presence of As(V) and its increasing. An obviously wide band is observed in 830 cm−1, which is the ν1 vibration of AsO4. The result of XPS reveals that the binding energies of As3d increase from 44.0 eV to 45.5 eV, which indicates that the amount of As(V) in the precipitates increases. The concentrations of arsenic released of these precipitates are 350–650 mg/L. The stability of tooeleite decreases by comparison when the presence of coexisting As(V) ions

The Brazilian Program of Building Labeling (PBE) classifies energy efficiency levels in commercial, public services, and residential buildings into five categories which vary between "A"(efficient) to "E"(non efficient). Consequently, the following classificatory regulations were elaborated, RTQ-C and RTQ-R for commercial and residential buildings. The classification of buildings can be implemented through prescriptive or computer simulation methods. Hotels are classified as commercial buildings but their due to the nature of their occupancy trends, they are treated as a residential building where the occupant make use of the room facilities mostly during the night and the room remains mostly empty during daytime. The main objective of this project is to appraise the energy efficiency of four star hotels in Florianopolis, applying the process of evaluation described by the Labeling program of buildings. To achieve this purpose, the first step is to survey and evaluate the downtown area of the city Florianopolis, with a focus on four star hotels. The projected evaluated several hotel buildings in the area. As a result of this evaluation, building trends which are typical to the hotel industry were identified, as well as patterns of their operational and functional processes. Consequently, the RTQ-C for commercial and public buildings, and the RTQ_R for residential buildings have been applied. Both prescriptive and computer simulation methods were used in one of the hotels. For both the RTQ-C and RTQ-R, the computer simulation method obtained the best results. Finally, the prescriptive and the computational simulation data determined the influence of building patterns and techniques over the energy efficiency of the building. A total of 34 cases have been evaluated, altering 8 parameters, two related with the external characteristic of the building (surrounding and orientation) and six related to the internal characteristics related to the building ( PAFt; AHS; Upar; Ucob; ?par e ?cob). It has been observed that the variation of the parameters has a direct influence of up to 9% of the energy consumption in these types of buildings. From this analysis, we can take the necessary measures of intervention in built and projected buildings, in order to secure better energy efficiency levels

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to help business marketers with offline channels to make decisions on whether to sell through Group-buying (GB) websites and how to set online price with the coordination of maximum deal size on GB websites. Design/methodology/approach: Considering the deal structure of GB websites especially for the service fee and minimum deal size limit required by GB websites, advertising effect of selling on GB websites, and interaction between online and offline markets, an analytical model is built to derive optimal online price and maximum deal size for sellers selling through GB website. This paper aims to answer four research questions: (1) How to make a decision on maximum deal size with coordination of the deal price? (2) Will selling on GB websites always be better than staying with offline channel only? (3) What kind of products is more appropriate to sell on GB website? (4)How could GB website operator induce sellers to offer deep discount in GB deals? Findings and Originality/value: This paper obtains optimal strategies for sellers selling on GB website and finds that: Even if a seller has sufficient capacity, he/she may still set a maximum deal size on the GB deal to take advantage of Advertisement with Limited Availability (ALA) effect; Selling through GB website may not bring a higher profit than selling only through offline channel when a GB site only has a small consumer base and/or if there is a big overlap between the online and offline markets; Low margin products are more suitable for being sold online with ALA strategies (LP-ALA or HP-ALA) than high margin ones; A GB site operator could set a small minimum deal size to induce deep discounts from the sellers selling through GB deals. Research limitations/implications: The present study assumed that the demand function is determinate and linear. It will be interesting to study how stochastic demand and a more general demand function affect the optimal strategies. Practical implications: This paper provides a very useful model framework and optimal strategies for sellers’ selling on GB website. It takes advantage of the analytical model to explain much typical practical phenomenon for E-commerce like free sale with limited availability and so forth. It also helps GB website operator to induce deep discount from sellers. Originality/value: This paper is a first attempt to examine the seller's GB sale decision problem regarding to price and bounds on deal sizes. It analyses how the minimum deal size set by the GB website affect the optimal decision of sellers’. Moreover, it also discusses the impact of the interactions between online and offline markets on sellers’ decision.</p
