Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textPh.D.Tube-drilling is an important technique in processing prehistoric jade. This technique is closely related to the invention of bearing and has critical impact on social productivity, distribution of products and consumption behavior of its contemporary society. Professor Deng Cong made analysis and research on the function of unearthed stone bearing and put forward the idea of how to use it. The author also made an extensive investigation of the existing techniques of producing hand-thrown pottery. On the basis of Professor Deng Cong’s research and my investigation, an axle and wheel machine with stone bearing to drill jade was designed, and it was successfully used in the experiments to produce drilled holes with different diameters, which proved that bearing is an important power device for drilling jade.Through experiments, it can be seen that rotary bearing is more inertial and stable than fixed bearing. The size of bearing and the size of the wheel are closely related to the rotation speed of the wheel. In addition, the distribution of rotating marks on the two sides of the bearing, the stability of the rotating wheel, and the characteristics of the drilling marks are closely related to each other and can be mutually confirmed. The drilling efficiency is closely related to the rotation speed, stability, and drilling pressure. The diameter of the drilled hole is closely related to the fineness of jadegrinding sand. The results of this study reflect the following facts:First, bearing T0408.2:1 excavated at the Zhahai site of Xinglongwa culture was a power device used for processing jade. Jade huan bracelet N2ZM1 and jade core excavated at the Niuheliang site of Hongshan culture were all produced through tube drilling. From the rotation marks left on the jade, it can be shown that the technique of processing jade with rotatory power had already been grasped in this region.Second, the so-called “grinder” unearthed at the Fang Jiazhou’s site should belong to the category of fixed-bearing. The characteristics of the rotation marks on the bearing heads and the distribution of bearings coincide with the characteristics of the bearings used in the experiments. In addition, the depth of the boring hole, the precision of the positioning of the tube drills, and the stable concentric circular rotation marks of the jade cong tubes, bracelets, and bi disks found at Yaoshan and Fanshan sites of Liangzhu culture make it clear that Liangzhu people used wheel and axle machine that had high stability and could produce high-speed rotation to produce these jade objects. Through experiments, we also found that to complete such a jade manufacturing project, it is by no means a personal ability and there should be a huge jade manufacturing team behind it. And the division of labor is clear.Third, the experiments prove that bearings unearthed at the Lingjiatan site are not stone drills. In addition, the results of experiments of single-sided drilling and doublesided drilling are consistent with the characteristics of the unearthed objects of the site. Many new insights have been gained through experiments. The experiments verify that drilling traces, mechanical rotation of the wheel and axle machine, and rotation marks on the bearing head have a very close relationship.史前玉器加工中存在一項很重要的生產科技——管鑽鑽孔技術，此技術與轆轤的發明密切相關，鄧聰業師對出土的石制轆轤軸承器的使用方式做了分析和研究，並提出了使用方式的思路，筆者在此基礎上對現存手工拉坯制陶技藝做了廣泛的調查。在此基礎上設計了轆轤軸承器玉器鑽孔實驗台，並利用它成功的製作了直徑大小不等的鑽孔實驗，證明了轆轤軸承器是玉器鑽孔的重要動力裝置。通過實驗可知，滾動轆轤軸承器比固定轆轤軸承器慣性大並且穩定性好，轆轤軸承器大小與輪盤大小的配合跟輪盤旋轉速度快慢有密切關係。另外，轆轤軸承器第一、二面旋轉旋轉痕跡分布情況、輪盤旋轉穩定性、鑽孔痕跡特徵三者關係密切，可相互印證。鑽孔效率上與輪盤旋轉速度、穩定性、鑽孔壓力有很大關係，管鑽孔徑大小與解玉砂顆粒的粗細關係極為密切。通過本次研究成果，反映了以下事實：第一，興隆窪查海遺址出土T0408.2:1軸承器，是用於加工玉器的動力裝置。紅山文化牛河梁遺址出土N2ZM1大口徑玉環和N2Z3:10玉芯，都是管鑽鑽孔而成，從環狀玉器遺留旋轉痕跡可判斷該地區已經熟練掌握運用旋轉動力加工玉器的方法。第二，方家洲遺存中出土的所謂“研磨器”應該屬於固定轆轤軸承器範疇，其軸頭旋轉痕跡特徵及分布規律與實驗轆轤軸承器特徵吻合。另外，通過實驗對比發現良渚文化瑤山、反山出土的大玉琮、玉鐲、玉璧鑽孔之深，管鑽口定位之精準，同心圓狀旋轉痕跡非常平穩等現象，可以確定良渚人使用的輪軸機械極具穩定性同時能夠產生高速旋轉動才有可能完成，通過實驗，我們還發現要完成如此的製玉工程，絕非個人能力所為，應該背後有一支龐大的製玉隊伍，且等級分工明確。第三，實驗證明了凌家灘出土轆轤軸承器，並非“石鑽”。另外，單面鑽孔和雙面對鑽鑽孔實驗成果與該遺址相關出土遺物規律特徵吻合。通過實驗獲得諸多新的認識。實驗驗證了鑽孔痕跡、輪軸機械旋轉運動以及轆轤軸承器軸頭旋轉痕跡三者之間的關係是非常緊密的。徐飛."2018年7月".Parallel title from added title page.Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2018.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 294-297).. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
