These presentation slides, provided by the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC), were part of a presentation by Mark Dempsey at the 2017 League of Innovations conference. These presentation slides cover best practices and key strategies behind the National CTC's robust IT faculty community of practice known as the "CCN" (Convergence College Network) and also provide general notes on cultivating a successful community of practice. Slide topics include the following: Who We Are, What is a CoP, Evolution of the CTC's Community, Convergence College Network, 10 Essentials for a Successful CoP, 5 Reasons for a Cop Failure, and more. This community of practice model can work in any discipline.Â

These presentation slides are provided by the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC) and were part of a presentation by Dr. Ann Beheler and Mark Dempsey at the 2017 Summer Working Connections "Leadership Academy" track. These slides cover best practices and key strategies behind getting a business group (which the CTC calls the "BILT" - Business and Industry Leadership Team) to validate the job skills needed by an entry-level worker. The goal is to make sure curriculum aligns with workforce needs by mapping the validation list to program courses. This model works across all disciplines.&nbsp

This video from the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC) explores CTC's virtual labs. In the video, Mark Dempsey describes the benefits and logistics associated with virtual labs for educators. Benefits include the flexibility of online learning, the ability to experiment in a sandbox environment, the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences, and more. Doug Moore and Ernie Friend from Florida State College also provide a demo of the virtual labs and advice for educators. The video recording runs 13:37 minutes in length

The National Convergence Technology Center (CTC) created this webinar to accompany the release of the updated 2020 list of KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) that entry-level IT infrastructure workers need to know. The CTC's Business and Industry Leadership Team (BILT) convenes each May to update this list. This webinar was intended to help understand and use the KSA list to make sure IT program curriculum aligns with workforce needs. The KSA worksheet is available to view separately.Â

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
