Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textΗ παρούσα Μεταπτυχιακή Διπλωματική Εργασία, επικεντρώνεται κυρίως στα ποιοτικά χαρακτηριστικά του Πόσιμου Νερού, όπως αυτά διαμορφώνονται βάσει της πρόσφατης Ευρωπαϊκής Οδηγίας 2017/0753/EK, περί ποιότητας του νερού για ανθρώπινη κατανάλωση. Έτσι, αρχικά γίνεται αναφορά σε γενικές πληροφορίες για το νερό, ενώ παράλληλα παρατίθενται συγκεκριμένοι ορισμοί, που αφορούν βασικά σημεία αναφοράς της εργασίας. Έπειτα, παρουσιάζονται με χρονολογική σειρά, οι διάφορες Ευρωπαϊκές Οδηγίες που κατά καιρούς ψηφίσθηκαν και τέθηκαν σε ισχύ και που αφορούν το Πόσιμο Νερό, όπως επίσης γίνεται αναφορά και στα σημεία που οι μεταγενέστερες εισήγαγαν, ή/και αναθεώρησαν ορισμένες παραμέτρους των προγενέστερων οδηγιών. Παράλληλα δε, γίνεται αναφορά και σε Εθνική Νομοθεσία, η οποία βάσει χρονοδιαγράμματος, υιοθέτησε τις Ευρωπαϊκές οδηγίες. Κατόπιν, παρουσιάζεται μία σειρά από παραμέτρους, οι οποίες ομαδοποιούνται σε επιμέρους κεφάλαια και που αφορούν τα οργανοληπτικά, φυσικοχημικά, χημικά, μικροβιολογικά και ραδιολογικά χαρακτηριστικά του Πόσιμου Νερού. Σε αυτό το σημείο, σε κάθε ένα από τα παραπάνω κεφάλαια που αφορά τις εν λόγω παραμέτρους, γίνεται αναφορά σε κάθε χαρακτηριστικό που περιλαμβάνουν οι Ευρωπαϊκές Οδηγίες για το Πόσιμο Νερό, ενώ παράλληλα παρατίθενται κατά περίπτωση οι πηγές, οι ιδιότητες, οι οριακές τιμές, οι μέθοδοι υπολογισμού-ανίχνευσης, καθώς και οι διάφορες επιπτώσεις στην υγεία των καταναλωτών και κατά συνέπεια ολόκληρου του πληθυσμού. Στη συνέχεια, γίνεται σύντομη αναφορά και περιγραφή για τα δίκτυα ύδρευσης, αναφορικά με τις προδιαγραφές, τα υλικά κατασκευής, καθώς και τυχόν ειδικές περιπτώσεις συμβολής τους στην επιβάρυνση της Δημόσιας Υγείας. Επιπλέον, παρουσιάζεται και μία σειρά θεμάτων ειδικού ενδιαφέροντος, που αφορούν τα φυσικά μεταλλικά νερά και την ύδρευση των επιχειρήσεων υγειονομικού ενδιαφέροντος, ενώ τονίζεται παράλληλα και η σπουδαιότητα της ειδικότητας του Υγιεινολόγου – Επόπτη Δημόσιας Υγείας, στα ανωτέρω ζητήματα. Τέλος, στην παρούσα Μεταπτυχιακή Διπλωματική Εργασία, παρατίθεται μια σειρά συμπερασμάτων και παρατηρήσεων, ενώ υπό μορφή παραρτημάτων, παρουσιάζεται η χρονολογική εξέλιξη των οριακών τιμών, των διαφόρων ποιοτικών χαρακτηριστικών του Πόσιμου Νερού, όπως αυτά διαμορφώθηκαν χρονικά, από τις επιμέρους Ευρωπαϊκές Οδηγίες.This Postgraduate Diploma Thesis, focuses mainly on the qualitative characteristics of Drinking Water, as formulated by the recent European Directive 2017/0753/EC, on water quality for human consumption. Thus, first reference is made to general information about water, while specific definitions are given, which refer to key points of the thesis. Then, the various European Directives that were occasionally adopted and implemented concerning Drinking Water, as well as the points that were subsequently introduced, and/or revised some parameters of the earlier Directives, are chronologically presented. At the same time, there is a reference to National Legislation, which adopted the European Directives on a timetable. Then, a series of parameters are presented, which are grouped into individual chapters that relate to the organoleptic, physical, chemical, microbiological and radiological characteristics of the Drinking Water. At this point, in each of the above chapters relating to these parameters, reference is made to each of the features contained in the European Drinking Water Directives, with sources, properties, limit values, methods of calculation and detection, as well as the various impacts on consumers’s Health and therefore the whole population’s. Following, is a brief report and description of the water supply networks, specifications, construction materials, and any specific cases of their contribution to the public health burden. In addition, there are a number of topics of special interest, related to natural mineral waters and water supply to health care companies, while emphasizing the importance of the specialty of Hygienist - Public Health Inspector in the above issues. Finally, in this Master’s Thesis, a number of conclusions and observations are presented, and in the form of annexes, the chronological evolution of the limit values, the various qualitative characteristics of the Drinking Water, as they were formed at the time, by the individual European Directives are also presented
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
