    Installation and Instrumentation of Offshore Piles

    Typically offshore piles consist of open ended steel pipes which are installed by driving procedures using large steam and/or hydraulic hammers. Often drivability analyses are performed beforehand to establish the optimum combination of pile and hammer for given soil conditions and required pile penetrations. To further monitor and guide actual pile installations, pile and hammer instrumentations are increasingly employed. In this paper drivability analyses and instrumentation methods are briefly explained, as well as the interpretation of instrumentation data. For sake of completeness also two papers are appended in this document. One paper giving more theoretical backgrounds on dynamic pile measurements; a second paper summarising some recent instrumentation projects, successfully completed throughout the offshore world

    In the tobacco industry, Philip Morris Holland B.V., part of Philip Morris International, is a cigarette manufacturing company. Within its Primary department tobacco leaves are pretreated in such a way to meet the requirements for cigarette production, which is done in the Secondary department. Tobacco pretreatment processes are: cutting, adding moisture, sauces, semi-finished products and flavors. One of the semi-finished products is expanded tobacco. The aim of a expanded tobacco production process is to stretch the tobacco cells in order to create a permanent volume increase. Tobacco expansion within Philip Morris Holland B.V. is accomplished by means of the Dry Ice Expanded Tobacco technology. In several process steps tobacco cells get impregnated with liquid CO2, which together with the intercellular moisture reacts whereby CO2-hydrate forms. After a impregnation cycle has been completed, the tobacco cells are quickly heated to a temperature of 300ºC. Due to the temperature increase, the CO2-hydrate inside the tobacco cells disintegrates and causes enough gas, and as a result inner pressure, to stretch the cells to the desired volume. The hot expanded tobacco gets cooled down and finally moisture is added to meet the final product requirements. During the several process steps multiple tobacco waste flows, which consist of tobacco fines (dust), are separated from the main tobacco material flow.     Non-compliance from a patient is a serious problem, with a big consequence in case of health and costs. ECCT B.V. tries to develop some supporting devices expected to help patients to report their compliance. One of these supporting devices is a dispenser. These devices record data about time and other clinically relevant information. The electronic circuit also contains RFID technology, it is possible for Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled mobile telephone or a NFC reader to take the stored data. If we compare Bluetooth with NFC, Bluetooth has an advantage in range, Bluetooth has wider range than NFC. When the dispenser starts using BLE, there is no need for us to make the dispenser close to BLE enabled mobile phone or reader, we can separate it in some distance. The antenna design was done by using CST Microwave Studio 2009, provided by Fontys Hogescholen. In this project, author uses printed Inverted F Antenna as the antenna. Inverted F Antenna has some advantages and also fulfills the requirements for transmitting and receiving data. From the simulation we can find out there is 7 parameters affected on the antenna performance. Length is one of the parameters affected to the antenna resonant frequency. From the measurement result, Bluetooth Low Energy for “Firefly” can reach 10 meters range and can stand for 3 years using coin cell battery. In the future, the “Firefly” should be developed in thinner PCB, 0.5mm PCB thickness, because dispenser requires 0.5 mm PCB thickness for the perfect final product.     SEW-EURODRIVE B.V. (SEW NL) is a manufacturer of drive products located in Rotterdam in The Netherlands and is a whole subsidiary of the German company SEW-EURODRIVE. SEW NL assembles drives and controllers. Each drive and controller is highly customizable according to the customers wishes and is assembled to order. Lead times are generally short (three workdays). Parts required for assembly of drive products can roughly be divided into two categories: eKanban parts and MRP parts. eKanban parts are small and cheap parts that are put into bins in bulk that are located at places where they are required. Whenever a bin is empty it will be scanned and new parts are ordered. MRP parts are large, more expensive and located in the internal warehouse. These parts are picked before the production order starts. Lead times of SEW NL are shorter than lead times of the supplier of SEW NL (SEW Germany), usually three workdays compared to two to four weeks of SEW Germany. Also, drives and controllers are assembled to order. Because of this, stock is required to meet the lead time requirements.     Assessment on Author Contribution in Publication: A Tool for Decision-makers

    AbstractIn this paper, an assessment model that incorporated with fuzzy preference relations is proposed to assess the contribution of each author that is involved in publication work. A case study is conducted to demonstrate the ability of the proposed methodology in distinguishing and reflecting the actual contribution of individual author through peer assessment. Results revealed the fuzzy preference relations are capable to provide indices to reflect authors’ contribution in a team, and subsequently rate them accordingly with appropriate individual mark. The mark for authors in a team is computed by their associated individual contribution factor scores and the journal rank mark set by the university. The methodology can be further deployed as a standardized method to quantify co-authors’ contributions in multi-author papers, and subsequently become a supplement evaluation tool for the university's decision maker to grade or reward the authors

    EDS Casting and Forging B.V. (EDS) is an Amsterdam-based design agency, specialised in redesigning welded assemblies into castings. As EDS is growing rapidly, and plan to keep on growing, they expressed a need of centralising their in-house design knowledge. From this need, the following problem statement was formulated:“New engineers at EDS have a lack of easily accessible sources, to learn how to design an economical casting or forging”To approach this problem, the following research questions were formulated:What does a new engineer need to learn in order to design an economical casting or forging at EDS?What kind of learning source could fit within EDS?To find answers to those research questions an analysis phase was executed considering the following topics:EDS Casting and ForgingDesigning at EDSAn economical casting or forgingNew engineers at EDSLearning sourcesEstimating costAs can be observed, these topics cover all crucial elements of the research questions, enabling the analysis phase to answers them. The insights from this analysis were used to create concepts, and define design criteria to evaluate those concepts. The concept that was chosen to develop further was the EDS kick-start, a program specially designed to optimise the learning curve for new engineers at EDS. The EDS kick-start is divided in 3 phases:The 1st phase takes 1 week. In this week, the new engineer should obtain as much knowledge about casting and forging as possible. For this phase the EDS traineeship was developed.The 2nd phase takes 3 months. During this period the new engineer needs to be productive for EDS, while still learning new skills and knowledge. For this phase a recommendation was made for an EDS learning sources overview.The 3rd phase takes as long as the engineer is working for EDS. During this phase the engineer should be fully enabled to learn from the projects he is doing. For this phase a recommendation was made for an EDS quotation book.The product of phase 1, the EDS traineeship is the main focus of this project. This traineeship was developed using the principle of constructive alignment (Biggs, 2011). The assignments of the traineeship were inspired by the ‘7 principles of good teaching’ (Chickering, 1987) and build upon learning goals that were shaped, making use of Blooms taxonomy (Bloom, 1956).An early version of the traineeship was tested with a new engineer and found to be very valuable for both the trainee, the mentor, and therefore, also for EDS.     Architectural Level Crosstalk Minimization: A Tool

    AbstractDesign automation is one of the key requirements of today's growing ASIC/SOC design process. The era of high speed and high density designs has led the design engineers various challenges. As the technology is scaling, one of the major concerns of VLSI design is signal integrity. Crosstalk is the major cause of signal integrity that occurs due to coupling of charge between the conducting interconnects.Most of the CAD tools available in the market addresses this issue at the post layout level. But tackling crosstalk at the stage when the design is ready for fabrication may not be always feasible in terms of area and power overheads. This paper proposes a novel CAD tool which performs an optimization to crosstalk effect at architectural level using High Level Synthesis (HLS) procedures. The proposed work performs crosstalk aware simultaneous scheduling, binding and allocation of resources in the given data flow graph using hybrid genetic and simulated annealing algorithm (GASA). The data flow graph of an intended design is fed as an input to the tool and it generates corresponding crosstalk optimized verilog code as an output. The obtained design is synthesizable in any of the commercial tool. The work is tested on 3X3 matrix multiplier and experimental result shows that there is 65.07% improvement in crosstalk delay and hence the Signal Integrity. Hence this work suggests a technique for architectural level crosstalk optimization
