Diagnostic cytological features and differential diagnosis of subacute granulomatous (De Quervain's) thyroiditis
Should pancreas cyst fluids be divided into two for cytological diagnosis and biochemical tests?
Background/Aims: The aim of the present study was to investigate whether pancreas cyst fluids should be divided into two for cytological diagnosis and biochemical tests. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted with fluids aspirated from 12 pancreas cysts. The fluids were divided into two and sent to the cytopathology (fluid 1) and biochemistry (fluid 2) laboratories. Fluid 1 was centrifuged at the cytopathology laboratory. Cytology slides were prepared from the deposit, and the supernatant was sent to the biochemistry laboratory. Fluid 2 was centrifuged at the biochemistry laboratory, and amylase, carcinoembryonic antigen, and cancer antigen 19.9 levels were determined in the supernatant. These procedures were repeated for fluid 1 from the cytopathology laboratory. The remaining fluid 2 was sent to the cytopathology laboratory. Fluid 1-like slides were prepared from fluid 2 in the cytopathology laboratory. Cytological diagnoses of fluid 1 and fluid 2 were compared, and the Pearson correlation coefficient for biochemical test results was identified. Results: 92\% of fluid 1 and 50\% of fluid 2 were diagnostic. Biochemical test results of fluid 1 and fluid 2 were similar, and the Pearson correlation coefficient was high. Conclusion: Our results showed that pancreatic cyst fluids did not need to be divided into two for cytological diagnosis and biochemical tests. Following centrifugation of the whole fluid at the cytopathology laboratory, the deposit and the supernatant can be used for cytological diagnosis and for biochemical tests, respectively. With this protocol, the sensitivity of cytological diagnoses and biochemical tests of pancreatic cyst fluids may increase.10OCT903-9093
Toprak Frezesi ilerleme Hızının Topraktan Karbondioksit Emisyonu Üzerine Etkisi
Bu çalışmada, toprak frezesi farklı ilerleme hızlarında toprak işlemede kullanılarak toprağı parçalama ve topraktan karbondioksit emisyonu miktarları işleme sonrası 25 gün süresince belirli aralıklarla belirlenmiştir. Bu amaçla toprak frezesi; 0.5 (h1), 1.0 (h2) ve 1.5 (h3) m s-1 olmak üzere üç farklı ilerleme hızlarında kullanılarak toprak işlenmiştir. Toprak CO2 emisyonu, mobil toprak CO2 emisyonu cihazı kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Toprak karbondioksit emisyonu ile birlikte, toprak sıcaklığı, buharlaşma ve toprak nemi de belirlenmiştir. İlerleme hızlarına bağlı olarak toprağın parçalanma düzeyini belirlemek için toprak granül irilik dağılımı da saptanmıştır. Ayrıca konulara bağlı olarak derinliğe göre toprak porozitesi ve hacim ağırlıkları da saptanmıştır.
Sonuçlara göre; toprak frezesi ilerleme hızlarının toprak CO2 emisyonu üzerine etkili olduğu bulunmuş ve h1 konusundaki CO2 emisyonu h2 ve h3 konularından daha yüksek bulunmuştur. h1, h2 ve h3 konuları için sırasıyla ortalama olarak CO2 emisyonları 0.21, 0.15 ve 0.15 g m-2 h-1 olarak belirlenmiştir (
Six Sigma in Non‐Manufacturing Environment
Despite the fact that much has been published about Six Sigma in the business and academic press and on the Internet in recent years, there is still confusion among many people, particularly those who work in the transactional and service environments, about the nature of Six Sigma. It is true that Six Sigma like other process improvement programs before was first applied to manufacturing processes; however, many corporations including General Electric and sony have successfully applied Six Sigma to their transactional and service processes as well. Six Sigma is used by many companies not only to improve the quality of their products and services but also to achieve quantifiable financial results, improve management style and communication, and achieve customer and employee satisfaction. Whether in manufacturing on non‐manufacturing environments, the application of Six Sigma differs from organisation to organisation. Although there are many common elements between these applications, however, special care must be taken when customizing Six Sigma to suite the organisation’s needs. In this paper, the author provides some practical and useful guidelines for Six Sigma deployment. This paper is not about the use of numerous statistical tools and techniques that can be found in a typical Six Sigma toolbox. The main emphasis has been placed both on the concept and the implementation of Six Sigma, particularly within the non‐manufacturing areas of business.</jats:p
Farklı maliyet yazılımlarının matbaa işletmelerinde uygulanabilirliğinin incelenmesi
FARKLI MALİYET YAZILIMLARININ MATBAA İŞLETMELERİNDE UYGULANABİLİRLİĞİNİN İNCELENMESİ Hazırlanan tezde, maliyet yazılımlarının matbaa işletmelerinde uygulanabilirliği, matbaa işletmelerinde kullanılırken getirdiği kolaylıklar ve program kullanıcılarına faydaları incelenmiştir, programın eksik kaldığı yönler ortaya konup çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur. Tezin ilk bölümünde, matbaa sektörünün maliyet yazılımlarına olan ihtiyacı ve bu yazılımları oluşturan koşullar ortaya konulmuştur. İkinci bölümde önce işletme, maliyet ve maliyet muhasebesi kavramları incelenmiş, maliyet muhasebesinin amaçları, bu amaçları gerçekleştirmek için kullanılan maliyet muhasebesi sistemleri açıklanmış ve bu sistemler içindeki sipariş maliyet muhasebesinin matbaa işletmelerine uygunluğu açıklanmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde, matbaa işletmelerinde yaygın olarak kullanılan maliyet yazılımları incelenmiş, bu yazılımlara ait olan menüler tanıtılmış, örnekler ile açıklamalarda bulunulmuştur. Yazılımlardaki menülerin işlevleri, yazan firmalardan alınan bilgilerle, yazılımı kullanan matbaaların tecrübesiyle ve yazılımların eğitim dokümanlarıyla oluşturulmuştur. Matbaaların maliyet kalemlerini programa aktarırken kullandığı yöntemler incelenmiş, bu aktarmalarda yazılımların uyumluluğu, sağladığı faydalar, sorun yarattığı noktalar ortaya konulmuş, gerekli görülen yerlerde örneklerle açıklanmıştır. Sonuç ve irdeleme bölümünde, yazılımların faydalı özellikleri, kullanıcılar tarafından uygulanabilir pratik yönleri, eksik kalınan, sorun çıkaran yönleri maddeler halinde ortaya konmuş, eksik olan yönler için çözüm önerileri sunulmuş ve bundan sonraki çalışmalara ışık tutması amacıyla, matbaa sektörüne ve yazılım firmalarına tavsiyelerde bulunulmuştur.A STUDY OF THE APPLICABILITY OF VARIOUS COST SOFTWARE IN THE PRINTING SECTOR This thesis is a study of the applicability and convenience of various cost software in printing houses. It also examines the deficiencies in software and offers some proposals for overcoming them. The first chapter outlines both the cost software needs of the printing industry and the conditions in which current cost software is formulated. Chapter two begins with an outline of the concepts of business, cost and cost accounting. It presents the aims of cost accounting and elaborates on the systems used to realise these aims. The cost software most commonly used by printing houses is studied in chapter three. This chapter includes an introduction to the software menus accompanied by examples. The functions of menus in the software are formed from the information provided by the software company and the program, the experience of printing houses. This is followed by an outline of the methods used by printing houses in the transfer of cost items to the program and a discussion of the compatibility and benefits of software. The chapter closes with an examination of the problems which arise in the course of data transfers. The author concludes with a general overview of the software. Problem-causing aspects are itemised and suggestions made for rectification. Finally, recommendations are made to both the printing industry and software companies in the hope that the findings of this study will serve to illuminate future projects and work
The knowledge of physicians about notifiable diseases in a University hospital
Amaç: Bu çalışmamızda hastanemiz de çeşitli servislerde çalışan hekimlerin bildirimi zorunlu bulaşıcı hastalıklar (BZBH)’ lar hakkındaki bilgi düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntemler: Çalışmamız bir anket çalışması olup, 2015 yılında Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanelerinde
akademik personel ve asistan doktorlardan oluşan 105 kişiye gönüllülük esasına bağlı olarak uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmamıza katılan 105 gönüllü hekimin 77 (%73,3) tanesi erkek olup 28 (%26,7) tanesi kadındı. Hekimler yaş aralıklarına göre değerlendirildiğinde 24-30 yaş aralığında 63 (%60), 31- 35 yaş aralığında 21 (%20 ), 36-40 yaş aralığında 14 (%13,3), 41 yaş ve üzerinde ise toplam 7 (%6,7) hekim bulunmakta idi. Hekimlerin 90 (%85,7)’ ının BZBH’ lar hakkında kendini bilgi yönünden
yetersiz hissettiğini tespit ettik. Araştırmamızda yaş grubu, cinsiyet, unvan ve hekimlik süresi ile bilgi düzeyi arasında anlamlı istatistiksel bir fark saptanmadı (p>0,05). Çalışmamızda hekimlerin çalıştıkları birimlere göre bilgi düzeyleri karşılaştırıldığında Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları, Tıbbi Mikrobiyoloji, Göğüs Hastalıkları ve Halk Sağlığı Anabilim Dalı gibi BZBH’ lar konusunda hizmet içi eğitim alan birimlerde BZBH’ lar hakkındaki bilgilerinin diğer birimlerle karşılaştırılmasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulundu (p<0,05). Sonuç: Daha uzun meslek deneyimi, unvan, yaş ve cinsiyet faktörlerinin BZBH’ lar hakkında bilgi düzeyinde etkili olmadığı ancak bu konu ile ilgilenen ve hizmet içi eğitim alan bölümlerde BZBH’ lar hakkında bilgi düzeyinin yüksek bulunması bunun eğitimle ilişkili olduğunu desteklemektedir. Hekimlerin işe giriş oryantasyon eğitimi konuları içinde ve hizmet içi alınan eğitimlerde BZBH ‘ ların öncelikli konular arasında yer alması yararlı olacaktır.Objective: In the present study, evaluation of knowledge levels of the physicians practicing in different services of our hospital about notifiable infectious diseases (NID). Methods: The present study was a questionnaire and applied to 105 volunteer individuals including academic personnel and residents in Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospitals in 2015. Results: Volunteer physician participants of our study
consisted of 77 (73.3%) males and 28 (26.7%) females. When the physicians were evaluated according to the age range, 63 (60%) were between 24-30, 21 (20%) were between 31-35, 14 (13.3%) were between 36-40 and 7 (6.7%) physicians were at 41 years and over. We detected that 90 (85.7%) physicians felt themselves ineligible about NIDs. In the present research, no significant statistical difference was detected between the age group, title, practice period and knowledge level (p>0.05). When knowledge level of the physicians based on the departments, a statistically significant difference was found in knowledge of the departments of which in-service training about NIDs were provided such as Medical Microbiology,
Chest Diseases and Public Health departments when compared with other departments (p<0,05).
Conclusion: Longer professional experience, title, age and gender factors are not effective on the knowledge level about NIDs; however, higher knowledge level about NIDs in the departments interested in this subject of which in-service training was provided about NIDs reveals the supporting fact that knowledge level is associated with training. Including NIDs into the topics of top priority for orientation training topics and in-service trainings will be useful
Performance Evaluation of CR+Paraffin Modified Stone Mastic Asphalt
Recently crumb rubber (CR) obtained by waste tires and FT-paraffin are mostly used in bitumen modification to improve the performance of bituminous mixtures. Each of these additives affects the different properties of mixtures. There are limited studies in the literature about the combined usage of additive in the same mixture to utilize the different characteristics. In this study, the stability, stiffness, fatigue resistance, permanent deformation resistance and moisture susceptibility characteristics of the stone-mastic-asphalt (SMA) prepared with the bitumen modified with CR and paraffin were examined and compared with the control mixture. It was determined that CR-modified mixtures showed significantly more elastic characteristics. The mixture in which the 10% CR and 3% paraffin were used together gave better results in terms of moisture susceptibility and fatigue resistance when compared with the control mixture. It was determined that the use of paraffin together with CR contributed to the performance as well and was in accordance with the CR in terms of mechanical characteristics of stone mastic asphalt.The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. Single-strand DNA breaks and oxidative changes in rat testes exposed to radiofrequency radiation emitted from cellular phones
The testes are a sensitive organ to electromagnetic pollution and people are concerned about the harmful effects of the radiofrequency radiation (RFR) emitted from cellular phones. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of long-term exposure to different RFR frequencies on single-strand DNA breaks and oxidative changes in rat testicular tissue. Twenty-eight male Sprague–Dawley rats were divided randomly into four groups. Three groups were exposed to radiation emitted from 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz RF generators, 2 h/day for 6 months. The sham-control group was kept under the same experimental conditions but the RFR generator was turned off. Immediately after the last exposure, testes were removed and DNA damage, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) were analyzed. The results of this study indicated that RFR increased TOS, OSI, MDA and 8-OHdG (p < 0.05). TAS levels in the exposed group were lower than in the sham group (p < 0.05). In terms of DNA damage, the tail intensities in the comet assay were higher in the exposure groups (p < 0.05). This study demonstrated that long-term exposure to RFR emitted by cellular phones may cause oxidative stress and oxidative DNA damage in rat testicular tissue and may generate DNA single-strand breaks at high frequencies (1800 and 2100 MHz). Our results showed that some RFR emitted from cellular phones has potential to lead to cell damage in the testes. © 2019, © 2019 The Author(s). REMOVAL OF PHENOL USING POLYMER COATED MAGNETIC NANOPARTICULAR ACTIVATED CARBON

Phenol is a toxic organic pollutant which is present in many industrial effluent streams originating from petrochemical industry, ceramic production process, wood plants and resin manufacturing plants. Phenol is difficult to remove from most wastewater effluent streams. In the presented study, phenol removal from wastewater sample was investigated using the adsorption method. The experiments were conducted to investigate the adsorption performance of activated carbon (AC), magnetic activated carbon (MagAC), styrenebutadiene styrene magnetic activated carbon (SBS/MagAC) and poly charbonat magnetic activated carbon (PC/MagAC) samples. The effects of various parameters, for example, temperature, solid-liquid ratio, adsorbent type, initial phenol concentrations and solution pH were investigated under similar experimental conditions. The results showed that the maximum adsorption of 98-99% was achieved at low pH values with the use of both AC and MagAC adsorbent materials. It was also found that the polymer coated magnetic materials did not perform very well at high pH values. The experimental data also showed that MagAC and SBS/MagAC were more effective than AC and PC/MagAC to remove phenol. In conclusion, we found that phenol can be removed more easily from the aqueous medium by using both magnetic and polymeric materials.Muğla Sıtkı Koçman Üniversity, Research Project Coordination Unit, project (19/081/01/1/1)
