Fundamental view of the outcomes of entrepreneurship education

    No full text
The research paper presents a holistic framework of the outcomes of entrepreneurship education (EE) at educational and socio-economic levels. Employing the general scientific research methods, monograph and logical construction, the author investigates the fundamental origins of the European Competence Framework for entrepreneurial learning and identifies a scientific justification for its implementation. This work is also the first to exploit an integral view of entrepreneurship as a combination of employability, intrapreneurship and venture creation – for measuring the impact of entrepreneurship education, and to set linkages between learning outcomes in real life and educational settings. The target audiences for this paper include entrepreneurship educators, researchers and EE decision-makers. </p

Java EE and Spring Platform Comparison in Web Application Development

    No full text
Noslēgumā tiek doti ieteikumi platformas izvēlē atkarībā no realizējamā projekta specifikas.Java EE and Spring are most popular Java web application platforms. Early versions of Java EE platform had complicated development process and high resource usage so in developer community it was called "heavy-weight". Spring platform emerged as an alternative "light-weight" platform. Later Java EE was updated and development complexity was decreased. Paper describes features of Java EE 6 and Spring 3 platform and analyses platform functionality. Performance of both platforms is tested using applications developed by author. In conclusion author gives recommendations for platform choice depending on project characteristics

Influential Publications in Ecological Economics: A Citation Analysis

    No full text
We assessed the degree of influence of selected papers and books in ecological economics using citation analysis. We looked at both the internal influence of publications on the field of ecological economics and the external influence of those same publications on the broader academic community. We used four lists of papers and books for the analysis: (1) 92 papers nominated by the Ecological Economics (EE) Editorial Board; (2) 71 papers that were published in EE and that received 15 or more citations in all journals included in the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Citation Index; (3) 57 papers that had been cited in EE 15 or more times; and (4) 77 monographs and edited books that had been cited in EE 15 or more times. For each publication we counted the total number of ISI citations as well as the total number of citations in EE. We calculated the average number of citations/yr to each paper since its publication in both the ISI database and in EE, along with the percentage of the total ISI citations that were in EE. Ranking the degree of influence of the publications can be done in several ways, including using the number of ISI citations, the number of EE citations or both. We discuss both the internal and external influence of publications and show how these influences might be considered jointly. We display and analyze the results in several ways. By plotting the ISI citations against the EE citations we can identify those papers that are mainly influential in EE with some broader influence, those that are mainly influential in the broader literature but have also had influence on EE, and other patterns of influence. There are both overlaps and interesting lacunae among the four lists that give us a better picture of the real influence of publications in ecological economics versus perceptions of those publications' importance. By plotting the number of citations vs. date of publication, we can identify those publications that are projected to be most influential. Plots of the time series of citations over the 1990-2003 period show a generally increasing trend (contrary to what one would expect for an "average" paper) for the top papers. We suggest that this pattern of increasing citations (and thus influence) over time is one hallmark of a "foundational" paper.

    The Search for Edna Lavilla

The Search for Edna Lavilla Produced by Eurydice Aroney and Sharon Davis. http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/2007/06/ree_20070609.mp3 Background A radio documentary in the Journalism research discipline. This fifty-minute historical investigation (Aroney, Davis 2007) produced for the Australian Broadcast Corporation examines Sydneys illegal abortion trade during the 1940s. It involved painstaking archival research and document analysis, the tracking down of sources and eye-witness accounts from the period plus literature searches requiring interpretative analysis of criminal statistics. As a creative work the documentary used narrative script writing, performance, and dramatic historical recreations based on previously unearthed records and media reports. Contribution In the domain of journalism the use of first hand witness accounts are central to both the establishment of facts and storytelling techniques. However in the telling of stories such as this there are tensions between the desire to protect privacy of the individuals and the journalistic aim to put on the public record accurately attributed accounts. These ethical issues were revealed and explored within the narrative of the work by the journalist/producer. The same journalist published a peer review article based on the documentary in Oral History Association of Australia Journal (Aroney 200). A 1,000 word review of the program in History Australia journal says that this fine documentary succeeds in restoring to history some lost stories of abortion (Arrow 2007). Significance Walkley Award (2007), Third Coast International Audio Festival Award (Chicago), Prix Italia selection, finalist UN Media Peace Prize, Victorian Premiers Awards , broadcast on NPR (United States) and RTE (Ireland)

This report describes the proposed Information Portal for Women's Organization developed for the PELITAWANIS TNB Organization, a women's organization established by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to foster closer ties between the women work force and wives of the employees from all levels in TNB. The PELITAWANIS TNB Portal is for use by the members of the PELITAWANIS TNB Organization. This portal is a one-person project handled by the author. Therefore, the author is responsible for the development of all the system module. Among the modules are search facilities, online, registration, forum, bulletin board, member list and update, and user feedback. The purpose of this portal is to present information regarding the organization, its activities, members and services in an interesting manner and to make this information readily available to its members and other interested parties. It also facilitates information sharing besides encouraging interaction and communication between members. The portal also servesas an avenue for announcements regarding the organization. Other than that, it will also be possible to monitor the log ins of the members. The administrators of the portal can perform management tasks to update the contents of the portal and the member data. The Waterfall with Prototype model is chosen as the development platform is the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. The PELITAWANIS TNB portal of course will also undergo testing and evaluation after its completion. With the birth of the portal, its is hoped that this will encourage more women to use the facilities made available to enrich their knowledge and experience, particularly in the areas of information and communication technology

The interaction was, I believe, a fruitful step in developing a better re l ationship between the Spanish Community and the School of Education. First, the School supports the concept of an Outreach Institute which wou l d serve as major link between the University and the Community. The nstitute represents a positive means of addressing the total educational needs of the community and relating them to the existing and proposed programs of the University. Second, the School of Education agrees to employ, on a full time bas·s, one staff member who will be recommended by CELA. This person will become familiar with the programs in the School, as well as those in other educational units in the University, in order that the University can "nvolve more members of the Spanish Community in its educational programs. As you know, financial support for students is a continuing problem for the University. The staff member will assist us in finding new sources of student support and the development of appropriate educational programs. The faculty and administration of the School of Education will review its present programmatic efforts in order to increase the number of community people in our current programs. We will do all we can to support the development of the Outreach Institute as an important bridge between the Spanish Speaking Community and the University. RHD/b
