Title: A scientific approach to brewing the perfect cup of joe
Why this data?
What makes a good cup of coffee is, by and large, a subjective question. How it's prepared, what flavors should be emphasized, how much sugar, etc, are all considered when the average person has a cup. The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) was founded by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) in 1996 to address quality of coffee and income issues at origin. The CQI trains "Q Graders", or individuals who have been certified by the CQI and who have received comprehensive training in the cupping of coffee samples for the purposes of scoring and identifying individual lots against the SCAA's physical and sensory criteria for specialty quality. The goal of this scoring system is to provide a way to discuss the quality of coffee throughout the chain from the producers to the buyers. In that sense then, there must be a way to find commonalities between high scoring coffees.
What are the characteristics of a high scoring coffee? Can we predict whether a coffee will score well or poorly? Is there an origin that is prefered? It is the goal of this project to determine if there is a way to determine good coffee from bad coffee, and what a model for determining that might look like.
About the data
This dataset contains reviews of 1312 arabica and 28 robusta coffee beans from the Coffee Quality Institute, and was provided by James LeDoux, a data scientist at BuzzFeed, over on his coffee database GitHub repo (https://github.com/jldbc/coffee-quality-database). The data in this repo were collected from the Coffee Quality Institute in January 2018

Essential skills for a global workplace: revisiting the DINAMITE model for post-pandemic higher education.
This paper investigates some of the recent terminology and concepts used to describe the type and nature of transferable skills that are developed and nurtured in students in Higher Education, with a particular focus on the DINAMITE model. This model was developed by the author in 2021, following research with employers in three different countries. This paper seeks to evaluate the relevance and suitability of this model in 2024, from the perspective of fellow pedagogical researchers at the author's home institution in Scotland. An online, semi-structured, focus group with eight academics was held in February 2024. A thematic analysis was applied to the data and compared to recent literature on transferable skill development in Higher Education. The findings suggest there is a lack of clarity and coherence concerning the different terms and concepts that are used to describe transferable skills within the context of Higher Education; however, there is strong awareness and understanding of the fundamental importance of these skills. The DINAMITE model has both strengths and weaknesses as a conceptual tool for understanding the transferable skills that are necessary for a global, digital workplace. Therefore, this paper proposes a revised version of the DINAMITE model based on the recommendations of the participants. Further research is needed to examine a wider range of academic, student and employer opinions on the terminology and concepts used to describe transferable skill development within Higher Education. A universally accepted model would enable key stakeholders to devise a more cohesive approach to transferable skill development in preparation for the workplace
Disabilities in Middle-Grade Literature
This Honors Senior Thesis explores textual themes regarding disability in literary works featuring protagonists with a disability. In particular, it analyzes the role of literature as a way to provide exposure to and connection with the life experiences of a protagonist with a disability. The author then uses that information to generate insight into how she should approach her own creative writing project—a young adult novel portraying the lived experience of a 13-year-old male protagonist with bipolar disorder. The author focuses her attention on three works: Izzy, Willy Nilly (Cynthia Voight, 1986), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (Mark Haddon, 2003), and El Deafo (Cece Bell, 2015). Each book depicts a protagonist with a specific, named disability (amputation, ASD, and deafness). She examines how these works express or reject media-perpetuated stereotypes about disability, such as “victim/helplessness” and “inspirational/heroic”. She then offers suggestions about how she will avoid such pitfalls in her own work
Endless seasons
2013 Summer.Includes bibliographical references.Endless Seasons is a short novel that presents an example of enduring female friendship for the feminist literary canon. While examples of exceptional male friendship, also called heroic friendship, abound in the primary canon, female writers and subjects in contemporary American literature tend away from even an echo of what is presented by and for males. Endless Seasons takes one more step forward and provides this example of enduring female friendship in a rich multi-cultural setting where female silences are explored within religion and culture as the main character, Isabelle "Izzy" Juarez, traverses between childhood and womanhood. Endless Seasons is meant to make way for American female authors to rediscover virtue in the female bond, where love, acceptance, comfort and loyalty defeat the prototypical jealousy and betrayal within literary female friendships
Future Competition Law In Indonesia: Analysis Of The Phenomenon Of Disruptive Innovation
Kata Kunci: Hukum Persaingan Usaha; Inovasi yang Merusak; Politik Hukum Abstract: This research aims to analyze the legal status of disruptive innovation concerning the competition act and outline the policy direction of business competition regulations. In conducting this research, the author uses normative research methods by utilizing secondary data. In recent years, legal issues related to business competition have culminated in the presence of innovations that can change the paradigm of producers and consumers towards market activity habits, which are accustomed to conducting direct transactions. The emergence of modern technology has created a new, fourth industrial revolution that combines automation and computing with the internet of things. Disruptive innovation enables producers to offer their products and services efficiently and effectively through online-based offerings to provide consumers with various product choices to determine their needs efficiently and according to economic capacity. This paradigm shift must be balanced with regulations that can limit the legal corridors that have been adjusted to create prosperity for consumers and producers. It can be concluded that disruptive innovation has made the competition very intensive for consumers, making it easier for them to make choices according to economic capacity. In connection with the legal politics of business competition regulation, the law must be directed as a means of social control and social engineering to make business competition effective and efficient by still paying attention to Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution as the basis for market policy direction. Green Approach for Post-industrial Urban Regeneration: A case of Economic and Technical Development Zone, China
For cities facing post-industrial transition, urban greenways are proven strategies to activate urban spaces and improve the sustainability of cities. However, significant challenges remain when seeking to link greenways as a greenway network and integrate greenway networks to urban spaces. Given this shortcoming, Yantai National Economic and Technical Development Zone (YEDZ) was selected as a representative case. This paper analyzed the potential role of greenway network and requirements of post-industrial development for the urban environment. It seeks to develop a regeneration approach that integrating urban greenway planning with overall urban reform. Our priorities are providing a pedestrian network with non-utilitarian rhythms by activating former industrial spaces, restructuring urban green spaces, and integrating greenway networks into diverse urban spaces. In this way, it reveals the comprehensive benefits of the urban greenway network and improves overall urban form - multiple benefits, including economic development and social rewards, be created in the regeneration.Housing Quality and Process Innovatio

Toward accurate vaginal microbiome profiling: protocol, bioinformatics, and core microbiota characterisation
Purpose:Rising demand for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) with limited improvements in success rates has driven interest in the impact of the vaginal microbiome on fertility outcomes. In order to fully examine the relationship between the vaginal microbiome and fertility outcomes, methodologies and technological developments must be standardised and benchmarked to provide the most accurate assessment of microbial population representation. Methods:This study sought to investigate the utility of 16S sequencing and bioinformatic approaches using nanopore sequencing to characterize core vaginal microbiota in a healthy Australian cohort of reproductive-age women. Results:Optimisation and comparison of different PCR strategies for whole 16S amplification was undertaken, along with the generation of bioinformatic analysis strategies. Initial qPCR identified the 27F-YM (MIX) primer as the most sensitive for C. trachomatis. However, nanopore sequencing revealed no detectable C. trachomatis across all six samples. Among the bioinformatic tools, Porechop with NanoCLUST most accurately identified microbial presence. Community state type (CST) I—characterised by Lactobacillus crispatus dominance—was identified as the most common CST (66%), aligning with patterns of a healthy vaginal microbiome. Conclusion:The findings highlight a Lactobacillus-rich microbiome as the most common among healthy females; however, further refinement—potentially through a metagenomics approach—is recommended to address 16S rRNA primer limitations to enable improved accuracy of microbial detection for the vaginal microbiome
