Harper, David G.
currentDr. David G. (Dave) Harper is a science educator, researcher, and technology CEO. Educated from K to Ph.D. in BC, he is an advocate for education, science and technology, diversity and inclusiveness, environmental sustainability, and is passionate about the importance of critical reasoning and reasoned skepticism.
Dave holds a BSc. and Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in mathematical biofluiddynamics and completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole and the University of Cambridge in comparative physiology. He is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he teaches courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Contemporary Health issues. He is also UFV’s Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
As a Visiting Scientist at the BC Cancer Research Centre, Terry Fox Lab, his current research focusses on the therapeutic benefits of ketogenic diets for women with metastatic breast cancer. Abstract: In his 1987 mailed-in questionnaire, former graduate student, David G. Parsons, discusses his time at the Experimental College from 1930-1937. From 1930-1932, Parsons recalls his decision to attend the Experimental College and meeting Professor Alexander Meiklejohn. Parsons also comments on the structure of his courses, discussions, projects, and curriculum. The dissolution of the Experimental College is discussed, as well as the work of graduate students after the program. Gift of Professor David Stowe.Former Lansing Mayor David Hollister discusses his career and life in the Lansing area. Hollister talks about being fired from a teaching job in Durand for being outspoken on civil rights, seeing the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King at MSU in 1965 and being so moved that he volunteered to go to Mississippi to teach, teaching at Lansing Eastern High School, working on the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign in 1968 and starting his career in politics as an Ingham County Commissioner. Hollister also talks about his efforts to revitalize Lansing and the overall strategy to make Lansing a "cool city." Hollister is interviewed by Jose Moreno
