Compelled to control: conflicting visions of the future of cyberspace

    No full text
This report looks at the desire among states for greater control over the digital domain. It considers the convergence of controlling desires among the major cyberpowers and examines some of the main dynamics of the Russian and Chinese positions. Their positions are examined relative to each other and to the Western consensus. The paper analyses the potential implications for the global internet and the impact that developing countries may have on the dialogue

Sedimentation in the north San Clemente basin, California continental borderland

    No full text
Three broad sedimentary environments within the north San Clemente Basin have been defined. The south slope of San Clemente Island and the northernmost part of the San Clemente Basin receive predominantly siliciclastic sediments shed from San Clemente Island. Clastic sediments deposited in San Clemente Canyon are sorted and transported by the action of tidally generated currents. Currents measured in the canyon show upcanyon and downcanyon reversals of flow nearly every 12 hours, and currents reached velocities of 18 cm/second during periods of peak flow. The currents have winnowed silt and clay from sediments at the head of the canyon, leaving a sandy lag deposit. Pine-grained sediment is transported into the basin and slowly deppsited as the currents lose velocity. Three piston cores from the northern part of the basin penetrated the Holocene-Plelstocene boundary. Slightly more than a meter of Holocene sediment was measured in each core, as determined by mlcropaleontologic methods. The central part of the north San Clemente Basin is dominated by pelagic sedimentation. Basin physiography effectively blocks transport of clastic sediments from San Clemente Island and mainland California to the area. Hemipelagic sediments and distal turbidites are transported through the Navy Fan of the south San Clemente Basin and into the southern part of the study area. The observed distal turbidites may be a result of Early Holocene sea-level regressions. Sediments within the north San Clemente Basin are in a reducing environment, as indicated by their color and the presence of authigenic sulfides. Micropaleontologic data from this study indicate that kummerform Globlgerina pachyderma tests are a result of displacement into unfavorable environments

Simon de Roxas Clemente y Rubio, London, to James Edward Smith

Has come to England partly to see the Linnaean collections but frustrated by the distance Smith lives from London; sends five specimens for Smith's opinion that he would have consulted about in person if it was possible. Requests a specimen of 'Hypnum myosuroides'. Leaving England in a month to visit Morocco, from where he will attempt to reach the interior of Africa with Domingo Badia [Ali Bey al-Abbasi (1766-1818), Spanish explorer]; author of a plan for finding new discoveries in Africa commissioned by Spanish government. [Antonio José] Cavanilles hoped Clemente would be able to visit Smith, desirous of some remark if this is agreeable. Smith has annotated "the lichens were 'pollinarius', 'subfuseus' on walls, 'vinellus', 'cerinus' & 'saxicola'" and one near 'paellus' which could not be determined

The author analyzes Clemente Rebora’s Italian translation (1920) of the short novel "Semejnoe sčast’e" (Family Happiness) by Lev N. Tolstoy (1859); special attention is paid to the differences from the original text that signal the translator’s interpretive reading

    Le sorprese del giovane Grotowski

    No full text

Licenciado en MúsicaTesis de pregradoThis research project aims to propose an analysis of the cognitive processes of creation and interpretation of the chosen musical pieces of Master Clemente Diaz. There is wide attention regarding the structural knowledge of music (formal analysis) therefore, the idea of the project is not to assess the harmonic sense of a set of sounds, but to understand the process of the meaning of these particular sounds. With the analysis of the chosen musical pieces it is possible to visualize the creative process and the emotional component that each piece has, and how these components complement the interpret and its interpretive vision. This monographic work leaves the possibility open, both for the author or future readers, regarding the musical vision of the meaning of Clemente Diaz music

    Maintaining migration during a pandemic

    No full text
Having looked at the impact of the pandemic on the tourism industry and the mobility of international students, in this chapter we turn our attention towards labour migration. This change of emphasis may appear strange to some readers, with migration traditionally seen as separate from what are considered ‘softer’ forms of mobility. However, while the experience of moving to another country for employment purposes substantially differs from other forms of global circulation, all three of these mobilities depend on the existence of a fully functioning international travel infrastructure and relatively open national borders. We can, therefore, anticipate a certain amount of shared experience among people on the move, even if their experiences are fundamentally different in many other respects.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
