REVITALIZING ESSAY WRITING IN MALAY LANGUAGE THROUGH MOBILE-ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING
The purpose of this project was to design a mobile app that can help students learn how to construct an essay according to a specific format. The rationale of building this mobile app was to cater to students’ needs in the new normal era where online learning, as well as remote classes, have become mainstream. This project also sought to tap into the increasing usage of mobile phones in students’ daily routines by switching the conventional method of pen and paper to mobile technology. The target population for this research project was an intact class of students at a vocational school in the interior region of Sabah, Malaysia, whose oral proficiency in the Malay language was high but lacked the skills in writing a proper essay. The instruments used to collect data were document analysis, exit slips, and a rating checklist. The findings of this study might help the researchers gather feedback necessary in designing an effective mobile app that can improve the teaching of essays particularly in the Malay language by taking into consideration two learning theories, Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) and Information and Media Literacy (IML). The use of the mobile application in writing classes can help accelerate the integration of digital scholarship into school education as students can easily tap into the ubiquity of information and utilize multiple platforms to generate and circulate content. In order to create a mobile app with additional functionality and improved features, more studies are needed to convince stakeholders and tech companies to invest in the development of this app
Scratching for food: An original feeding behavior in an African flower breeding Drosophila
International audienceDrosophila suma is a flower breeding species widespread in the Afrotropical region. We describe an original and so far unique feeding behavior in that species. Strong black spines on the fore tarsus of both sexes are used for scratching the surface of the petals: the juice pouring out from the scratched cells is immediately ingested and this might be the only source of food. D. suma has been investigated on two kinds of flowers, Ipomoea and Crinum. In spite of the very different shape and color of these flowers, the feeding behavior of the flies is the same. Various morphological and anatomical adaptations are described, especially those related to laying a few very big eggs. The taxonomic position of D. suma has long remained and still is elusive. Further taxonomic and phylogenetic investigations would thus be needed to understand how adaptation to flower breeding has evolved

Reinterpretations in adverbal modification : a general approach
This paper is concerned with the fact that a number of adverbal modifications involve a systematic reinterpretation of at least one of the expressions connected by the operation in question. It offers an approach in which such transfers of meaning turn out to be a result of contextually controlled enrichments of an underspecified as well as a strictly compositionally structured semantic representation. The approach proposed is general for three reasons: First, it takes into account not only reinterpretations in temporal but also such in non-temporal modification. Second, it allows considering so-called secondary predications as a particular kind of adverbal modification. Third, it explains the respective reinterpretations within a uniform formal framework of meaning variation
Social exclusion in british tennis: A history of privilege and prejudice
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. This study focuses on the issue of social exclusion in British tennis. It commences with
a critique of current LTA policy, presenting exclusion as static, ahistorical and
underpinned by false dichotomies of age and social class. Aspects of Norbert Elias’s
theoretical approach are employed throughout as an analytical framework. Initially, the
roots of exclusion in British tennis are sought through historical analysis. Aspects of the
Civilising Process help direct attention towards wider social processes to explain the
prevalence of exclusion, particularly in tennis clubs. Cost was a crucial factor in
determining early access, but as tennis became more accessible to lower classes, codes of
behavioural etiquette helped demarcate members along status lines. Into the mid-20th
century, the globalisation, professionalisation and commercialisation of tennis pushed
the LTA to adopt a more performance-oriented outlook, but this has come to oppose the
more relaxed culture of tennis clubs. Thus, a power struggle emerged between these two
institutions, and, underpinned by thirty interviews with leading figures in British tennis
as well as extensive documentary analysis, the third section documents these
developments from the 1980s. Crucially, tennis clubs remain largely amateur and
voluntary-run organisations, yet are important locations for the implementation of the
LTA’s demanding talent development objectives. These recent developments are
understood with the help of Elias’s Game Models theory. The fourth section presents
findings from a ten-month ethnographic study of social exclusion in a tennis club; a
micro-analysis of club member relations underpinned by Elias’s Established-Outsider
Relations theory. Overall findings suggest that social exclusion in British tennis is far
more complex, multi-faceted and historically-rooted than what current LTA discourse
presents. Differences in age and class are less central, and instead preconceived notions
of social status based on longevity of membership, adherence to behavioural norms and
playing standard are powerful determinants of inclusion

The local Rockets have sustained one defeat
and one win in' the past week. Wednesday
evening they were defeated by the New Dayton
Ramblers, 63-63 in New Dayton. The win put
New Dayton in undisputed possession of first
place. The "Gold Dust Twins," Tom and Hal
Cronkite netted 22 a&d 21 points respectively
for the opposition. Cal Alston, who was
back in action after being laid up for two
weeks with a sprained ankle achieved 16 points
in a losing cause. Gene Rice and Jim Matkin
made 11 each.
Saturday evening in the new gym, the tables
were turned as the Rockets beautifully redeemed
themselves with a 66-53 win over Lethbridge
77's, whom they have played several times this
season. The win left Magrath and Lethbridge
deadlocked with four points each in third place.
Much credit is due Jim Matkin, who was as hot
as the proverbial fire cracker, as he garnered
27 points for the home cause. Gene Rice was
next with 13. Sham Stevens of Lethbridge was
high for the 77’s with 22 points.

Joe Waldner, the blacksmith said he had twelve. Joe and Red together could start a colony. In India, Prime Minister Nehru is in favor of birth control (three to the family.) If the plan works India hopes to maintain her population at 450 million. Red May have to be sent to India.
Charlie Ivans, Cardston, inquired at the store as to who had barley to sell at 500 a bushel. He said he could buy plenty up there for 700. "It has been pretty tough the last two years,” so if he could save four hundred dollars it would help.
