David Davis’ resignation as Secretary of State for Exiting the EU has stunned the country and left political observers wondering where the Brexit “negotiations” will go from here, and whether the Government is now in “crisis”.
Looking at Davis’ letter, he states that he was unhappy with the direction of travel and that the goal of leaving the Customs Union and Single Market appears less likely

David Davis: what, no scandal?
I was at the BBC when the news of David Davis’ shock resignation started to filter through. Speculation was rampant prior to his 1pm announcement. There had to be a major reason for the shadow Home Secretary to relinquish his job. If you believe the opinion polls it looks as if he would have had the real job within a couple of years. As I listened in to the hacks and flitted around the political blogs on my mobile it was clear that this was a Big Story

Lincoln\u27s Manager: David Davis (Book Review)
Professor Hurst of the University of Wisconsin, reviews Willard L. King\u27s Lincoln\u27s Manager: David Davis, a biography of Lincoln\u27s 1960 campaign manager who Lincoln later appointed to the Supreme Court. Professor Hurst praises King\u27s research and clarity of presentation, but expresses a desire for King to have focused more on Davis\u27s ordinary cases while a Justice, rather than on Davis\u27s one outstanding case

David Davis, Abraham Lincoln's favorite judge /
"One of Abraham Lincoln's staunchest and most effective allies, Judge David Davis masterminded the floor fight that gave Lincoln the presidential nomination at the 1860 Republican National Convention. This history-changing event emerged from a long friendship between the two men. It also altered the course of Davis's career, as Lincoln named him to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1862. Raymond J. McKoski offers a biography of Davis's public life, his impact on the presidency and judiciary, and his personal, professional, and political relationships with Lincoln. Davis lent his vast network of connections, organizational and leadership abilities, and personal persuasiveness to help Lincoln's political rise. When Davis became a judge, he honed an ability to hear each case with complete impartiality, a practice that endeared him to Lincoln but one day put him at odds with the president over important Civil War-era rulings. McKoski details these cases while providing an in-depth account of Davis's role in Lincoln's two unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate and the fateful run for the presidency. He also looks at the unofficial wartime communications Davis sent to the president to avert embarrassing court rulings and examines how Davis's even-handedness impacted the judicial branch of government. Engaging and meticulous, David Davis, Abraham Lincoln's Favorite Judge tells the story of an essential figure in the career of America's greatest president"-
