This article is the result of a study carried out on the level of national integration within the context of democracy. For a multi-ethnic country, achieving a full democracy is invariably a formidable challenge. Social exclusivity and surrounding factors such as socio-economy and socio-politics appear to among the major hurdles against the effort to realize a full national integration, more so countries used to be under colonial yoke for a considerable time. Malaysia, as one of those countries, eventually accepts the impact of colonialism that, among others, has inadvertently changed much of its social landscape. However, the protracted bargaining process between the ethnics has helped to bring about political stability to the country for many years. Yet, globalization still has managed to induce changes within the system of democracy so much so that it has significantly affected the level of national integration of the society. As such, this qualitative study seeks to identify key problems that stand in the way of full national integration that is in congruence with the principles of democracy. Based on the analysis done over primary and secondary data obtained, this study argues that liberal democracy had impacted national integration through, among others, ‘soft assimilation method’ seen as more than capable of reinforcing unity among multi-ethnics’ society of Malaysia

The intense desire to produce good quality human capital is not sufficient by having basic skills for certain fields only. There is a need to have a competitive attitude to enhance their level of competency as it is a big concern for many employers today. Hence, the study was conducted to identify the competitiveness factors that influence the level of competency among graduates, especially those who are employed in the service sector in Malaysia. This study used the survey method for data collection. Stratified purposive sampling was applied and a questionnaire was distributed to 450 graduates from 13 service sectors based on the statistics obtained from the Ministry of Higher Education 2016. The findings from the exploratory factor analysis found that seven competitiveness factors consisting of 47 items formed the competitiveness attitude among graduates. However, based on a multiple linear regression analysis, only five models of competitiveness factors produced significant relationships with graduates’ competency, which are job competitiveness, organizational management competitiveness, dominant competitiveness, goal competitiveness and self-improvement competitiveness. In fact, aggressive competitiveness and general competitiveness do not influence graduates’ competency level significantly. Therefore, it can be concluded that graduates' competitive attitude such as having emotional control, innovation, and competitive enthusiasm to be the best, is one of the important characteristics for graduate marketability in the future. In addition, it is hoped that their level of competency can be enhanced through the development of competitive factors for the advancement of the country's higher education talents

Pilihan raya umum ke-13: Kesinambungan politik baharu kekentalan politik lama

    No full text

A bibliometric analysis of health diplomacy research based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace

    Get PDF
Research on health diplomacy not only deepens global health governance but also enhances the sharing of information and resources in the field of public health. A bibliometric study was conducted on health diplomacy works published between 1993 and 2023 with "health diplomacy", "medicine diplomacy", "health and foreign policy", or "vaccine diplomacy" as the keywords. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to perform the bibliometric analysis. A total of 2,216 articles from the Web of Science database were analyzed. Results found that the United States held a prominent and influential position in health diplomacy studies, followed by China, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the University of Toronto, and Harvard University were the top three research institutes for health diplomacy. The article from Feldbaum et al. (2010) served as the representative and symbolic reference. These findings showed that topics including power, Covid-19, security, soft power, WHO, vaccine diplomacy, and governance, though with shorter spans, were the focal points in recent years. In addition, health diplomacy research exhibited interdisciplinary, cross-cutting, and temporal characteristics closely related to factors such as politics, economics, environment, and public goods

We study multidimensional inequality in partitions of finite multisets with thresholds. In such a setting, a Lorenz-like preorder, a family of functions preserving such a preorder, and a counterpart of the Pigou-Dalton transfers are defined, and a version of the celebrated Hardy-Littlewood-Pölya characterization results is provided.Multisets, majorization, Lorenz preorder, Hardy-Littlewood-Polya theorem, transfers

Causes and consequences of civil strife - micro-level evidence from Uganda

    Get PDF
To bridge the gap between case studies and highly aggregate cross-country analyses of civil unrest, the author uses data from Uganda to explore determinants of civil strife (as contrasted to theft and physical violence) at the community level, as well as the potentially differential impact of these variables on investment and nonagricultural enterprise formation at the household level. He finds that distance from infrastructure (a proxy for scarcity of economic opportunities and government investment), asset inequality (social tension), the presence of cash crops (expropriable wealth), and lower levels of human capital (ability to take advantage of opportunities in the"regular"economy) all increase the propensity for civil strife. Furthermore, civil strife, in marked contrast to violence and theft, reduces investment and nonagricultural enterprise start-ups.Education and Society,Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,Decentralization,International Terrorism&Counterterrorism,Economic Theory&Research,Education and Society,Environmental Economics&Policies,Poverty Assessment,Information Technology
