Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Determination of the anti-Toxoplasma gondii potential of natural triterpenes and implementation of an in silico high-throughput screening tool
No full textToxoplasma gondi est responsable de la toxoplasmose, une parasitose qui touche un tiers de la population mondiale. Son traitement repose sur une association médicamenteuse dont les molécules ne sont pas dénuées d’effets secondaires. De plus, des phénomènes de chimiorésistances commencent à apparaitre. Cette thèse comporte deux axes différents qui mènent tous deux à l’identification de nouveaux composés actifs contre T. gondii. Le premier porte sur la détermination du potentiel antiparasitaire des triterpènes présents dans l’écorce d’aulne glutineux (Alnus glutinosa) au travers du fractionnement bio-guidé et du docking inverse. Le second porte sur l’adaptation d’AMIDE en tant qu’outil de criblage à haut débit. Les triterpènes pentacycliques de type lupane ont été identifiés comme responsables de l’activité anti-T. gondii de l’écorce d’aulne glutineux. La bétulone a montré le plus fort potentiel avec une CI50 de 2,7 µM et une CC50 supérieure à 80 µM. Ce triterpène était le seul à disposer d’une cétone en C3 ce qui suppose sa forte implication dans l’effet antiparasitaire. Cela a été confirmé par des résultats similaires obtenus pour deux analogues commerciaux de la bétulone, l’acide bétulonique et l’ester méthylique de l’acide bétulonique. Une recherche de cible de la bétulone sur un set de 87 protéines issues de la Protein Data Bank a montré de fortes interactions entre ce triterpène et la CDPK3. Cela a pu être confirmé par la forte affinité des deux analogues précédemment cités. Cette protéine apparaît donc comme la cible la plus probable des triterpènes de type lupane chez T. gondii. Finalement, motivé par un contexte sanitaire particulier, AMIDE a été modifié pour devenir AMIDEv2, une version fiabilisée du framework de docking inverse, qui est désormais capable d’être utilisé comme outil de criblage à haut débit. Il est actuellement employé dans deux projets. D’abord, dans le criblage in silico des 1 040 molécules de la Chimiothèque Nationale Essentielle (CNE) sur un set de 25 protéines indispensables à T. gondii. Ces résultats seront corrélés au criblage in vitro des composés de la CNE dont nous avons recensé 12 molécules parmi les 1 040 qui possèdent des CI50 inférieures à 5 µM. AMIDEv2 est également utilisé dans un projet ANR Flash portant sur le criblage de plus de 200 000 composés sur des cibles prioritaires de SARS-CoV-2 (projet HT-COVID).Toxoplasma gondii is responsible for toxoplasmosis, a parasitosis that affects one-third of the world's population. Its treatment is based on a combination of drugs whose molecules are not without side effects. Moreover, chemoresistance phenomena are beginning to appear. This thesis has two different axes which both lead to the identification of new active compounds against T. gondii. The first one is related to the determination of the antiparasitic potential of the triterpenes of the bark of black alder (Alnus glutinosa) through bio-guided fractionation and reverse docking. The second one focuses on the adaptation of AMIDE as a high-throughput screening tool. Lupan-type pentacyclic triterpenes were identified as responsible for the anti-T. gondii activity of black alder bark. Betulone showed the highest potential with an IC50 of 2.7 µM and a CC50 above 80 µM. This triterpene was the only one with a C3 ketone which implies its strong involvement in the antiparasitic effect. This was confirmed by similar results obtained for two commercial analogs of betulone, betulonic acid, and betulonic acid methyl ester. A target search of betulone on a set of 87 proteins from the Protein Data Bank showed strong interactions between this triterpene and CDPK3. This was confirmed by the high affinity of the two analogs mentioned above. This protein thus appears to be the most likely target of lupan-type triterpenes in T. gondii. Finally, motivated by a particular health context, AMIDE was modified to become AMIDEv2, a reliable version of the reverse docking framework, which is now capable of being used as a high-throughput screening tool. It is currently used in two projects. First, in the in silico screening of the 1,040 molecules of the National Essential Chemistry Library (NEC) on a set of 25 proteins essential to T. gondii. These results will be correlated with the in vitro screening of the NEC compounds of which we have identified 12 molecules among the 1,040 that have IC50 below 5 µM. AMIDEv2 is also used in an ANR Flash project involving the screening of more than 200,000 compounds on priority targets of SARS-CoV-2 (HT-COVID project)
