Arun Joshi’s Use of Symbolism in “The Foreigner”
The purpose of this research paper is to analyze how Arun Joshi used symbolism as a technique to express the human predicament. Arun Joshi uses symbols to present the mystery of human existence. A deep study of the novel reveals that the central experience of his fiction is crisis and quest. Dealing with Sindi Oberoi‟s journey from detachment from the world to his involvement in it, the novelist depicts Sindi‟s anguish resulting from his loneliness and rootlessness. It is the good use of symbolism that Joshi succeeded in exploring the predicament of the protagonist struggling to arrive at reality in the midst of utter chaos and meaninglessness of the mind
Conflict of law and the methodology of Tarjīẖ : a study in Islamic legal theory
Islamic law never achieved unity but expressed itself in, at least, four surviving schools. More interestingly, contemporary Muslim communities are still divided among themselves on a number of issues related to their laws. This work describes how problem of legal conflicts have been tackled by Muslim jurists. It is an attempt to examine closely the phenomenon of conflict in Islamic law from the standpoint of usūl-al-fiqh or Islamic legal theory. In fact, much is heard nowadays of the contradiction in the body of Islamic law. Whilst in contrast, little is presented in terms of the methodology of removing this conflict. The present work therefore, attempts to redress this balance. The emphasis of the work will be concerned primarily with tarjīh methodology ; how to give preference to one piece of evidence or argument over the other when they conflict. Nevertheless, considerable concern is given to investigating the background to the conflict of law in the Shari'ah.
This study of a neglected area in Islamic legal scholarship will be an important source of reference to students, both practising and theoretical jurists or to anyone who merely wishes to increase his knowledge of legal themes, particularly legal conflict. The very aim of the work is to argue that conflict is a natural and unavoidable consequence of legal study because legal conflict is only conflicting principles and arguments adduced by both the classical and modern jurists to reach what is actually intended by God in the target case. Therefore, conflicts are inevitable in most of the cases in fiqh owing to the variety of principles set out to deal with one piece of legal evidence, let alone with all the pieces of legal evidence in question.
Tarjīh is therefore, an important and workable instrument in the re-examination of these conflicts and in arriving at the most accurate principle for establishing the law for as long as this is possible. It is hoped that the discovery of new facts and the increase of knowledge which results from the broadening and deepening of the research will positively contribute to the process of unification of Islamic law
Hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity of Persicaria maculosa aqueous extract against carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats
658-663The consolidated hepatoprotective effect and antioxidant activity of Persicaria maculosa Gray were assessed against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) instigated hepatic harm in Wistar albino rats. Aqueous extract of P. maculosa at a dosage of 400 mg kg-1. Every 14 days, a portion of one's body weight was administered orally. The generously raised serum marker catalysts for example, ALT, ALP, AST, total bilirubin and the cell reinforcement proteins, for instance, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione-S-transferase were discovered as a result of CCl4 treatment. Following administration of plant extract, the levels of the previously mentioned enzymes were brought close to approaching regularity. At a dose of 100 mg/kg, silymarin was used as a standard reference drug in the study. The results of this study demonstrated unequivocally that Persicaria maculosa has a potent hepatoprotective effect in rats against CCl4-induced hepatic damage. Histopathological changes were also seen in livers of animals that received drugs. Simultaneous organization of silymarin altogether diminished the medications-induced biochemical and histological changes toward normalcy

Hepatoprotective and Antioxidant Effect of Polygonum Persicaria Linn and Its Active Principle on Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Toxicity in Rats
The present study was carried out to observe the hepatoprotective effect and antioxidant activity of the aqueous extract of the roots of Polygonum persicaria (PP) and its active principle i.e Tannic Acid (TA) in rats treated with carbon tetrachloride (1.5 ml/kg, i.p.). Twenty albino wistar rats were allotted to five groups (control, CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity and hepatotoxicity with Polygonum persicaria and Tannic acid and one group acts as a standard treated with silymarin 100 mg/kg. Rats were scarified after 14 days. Toxicity was performed using 12 rats. They were randomly divided into three groups (control and treated with 200 mg/kg (B.wt) of Polygonum persicaria & 200 mg/kg (B.wt) of Tannic acid. Extract of PP and TA at the tested doses restored the levels of liver homogenate enzymes (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S transferase, superoxide dismutase and catalase enzymes significantly and supported the biochemical observations. This study suggests that Tannic acid has a more liver protective effect in comparison of Polygonum persicaria against carbon tetrachloride- induced hepatotoxicity and possess antioxidant activities and exhibited moderate anticancer activity towards cell viability at higher concentration. Liver injury was confirmed by the histological changes
Prediction and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer using Machine Learning Techniques
Introduction: One of the most common types of cancer and a significant contributor to the high death rates among women is breast cancer. It usually occurs in women. It is crucial to acquire a diagnosis early in order to kill cancer from becoming worse.
Objective: The traditional diagnosing procedure takes more time. A fast and useful option can apply Machine Learning Technique (MLT) to identify illnesses. However new technology creates a variety of high-dimensional data kinds particularly when it comes to health or cancer data.
Methods: Data classification techniques like Machine Learning are efficient. Particularly in the medical field where such techniques are often utilised to make decisions via diagnosis and analysis. Using Wisconsin Breast Cancer Dataset, the proposed research was carried out (WBCD). Some of these issues may be solved using the feature selection approach.
Results: This research analyses the classification accuracy of different MLT: Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and K-Nearest Neighbour. According to experiment results, SVM has the best accuracy of all algorithms, at 97.12%.
Conclusion: The mentioned prediction models are based on several supervised MLT. Tenfold cross validation is applied. Additionally, author also proposed a Flow chart of breast Cancer using MLT
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Role of lamotrigine augmentation to anti-depressant medication in winter depression
Background: Many therapeutic options have been evaluated and tried for seasonal affective disorder (SAD) including bright light therapy (BLT), anti-depressants, beta-blockers and psychotherapy, but the data supporting use of mood-stabilizing agents is just handful in spite of this condition being understood most frequently to be associated with bipolar affective disorder II (BPAD II). So we planned to study role of Lamotrigine (Mood stabilizing agent) in SAD. Materials and Methods: 30 patients of SAD who were prescribed lamotrigine in addition to antidepressant medications for a minimum of 8 weeks and were assessed for severity using HAM-D were selected retrospectively from the hospital records for this study. HAM-D scores at 2, 4 and 8 weeks were compared to baseline scores. Statistics Analysis: Single tailed t-test was used to study the difference of means to assess the therapeutic response and pre/post analysis of change. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: Though no significant difference was seen in HAM-D Scores at 2 weeks of treatment compared to baseline, but results were statistically significant at 4 and 8 weeks of treatment with lamotrigine augmentation of antidepressant medications. Conclusion: We conclude that lamotrigine augmentation was found to be effective treatment strategy for managing winter depression phase of Seasonal Affective Disorder
