Embedding spanning subgraphs into large dense graphs
In this thesis we are going to present some results on embedding spanning subgraphs into large dense graphs. Spanning Trees Bollob'as conjectured that if is a graph on vertices, for some , and is a bounded degree tree on vertices, then is a subgraph of . The problem was solved in the affirmative by Koml'os, S'ark"ozy and Szemer'edi for large graphs. They then strengthened their result, and showed that the maximum degree of need not be bounded: there exists a constant such that is a subgraph of if , and is large. Both proofs are based on the Regularity Lemma-Blow-up Lemma Method. Recently, using other methods, it was shown that bounded degree trees embed into graphs with minimum degree , where is a constant depending on the maximum degree of . Here we show that in general is sufficient for every . We also show that this bound is tight for the two extreme values of i.e. when and when . Powers of Hamiltonian Cycles In 1962 P'osa conjectured that if then contains the square of a Hamiltonian cycle. Later, in 1974, Seymour generalized this conjecture: if then contains the th power of a Hamiltonian cycle. In 1998 the conjecture was proved by Koml'os, S'ark"ozy and Szemer'edi for large graphs using the Regularity Lemma. We present a ``deregularised" proof of the P'osa-Seymour conjecture which results in a much lower threshold value for , the size of the graph for which the conjecture is true. We hope that the tools used in this proof will push down the threshold value for to around 100 at which point we will be able to verify the conjecture for every .Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Asif Jamshe
Prediction of particle concentration profiles in binary-solid liquid fluidized bed
A simple mixing rule is presented here to predict the concentration profile of individual particle species in a binary-solid liquid fluidized bed from the information about the total solid concentration in the bed. Using the experimental data available in the literature, the applicability of this approach is demonstrated for the presence of different size particles in the bed. For the case of binary-solid fluidized bed showing layer inversion behavior, this simple mixing rule is capable of predicting the concentration of two species from the total solid concentration data of the bed.Corresponding Author:

Conventional and Molecular Breeding Approaches for Biofortification of Pearl Millet
Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] is an essential diet of more than 90
million people in the semi-arid tropics of the world where droughts and low fertility
of soils cause frequent failures of other crops. It is an important nutri-rich grain
cereal in the drier regions of the world grown on 26 mha by millions of farmers
(IFAD 1999; Yadav and Rai 2013). This makes pearl millet the sixth most important
crop in the world and fourth most important food crop of the India, next to rice,
wheat, and maize with annual cultivation over an area of ~8 mha. Pearl millet is also
primary food crop in sub-Saharan Africa and is grown on 15 mha (Yadav and Rai
2013). The significant increase in productivity of pearl millet in India is attributed
to development and adoption of hybrids of early to medium duration maturity. More
than 120 diverse hybrids/varieties have been released till date for various production
environments. The heterosis breeding and improved crop management technologies
increased productivity substantially achieving higher increased production of
9.80 mt in 2016–2017 from 2.60 mt in 1950–1951 in spite of declined of area under
the crop by 20–30% over last two decades (Yadav et al. 2012)

Prediction of tool temperature during machining of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with atomization-based cutting fluid spray system
Atomization-based cutting fluid (ACF) spray system is being sought as an alternative to cooling processes currently used for machining difficult-to-cut materials such as Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The ACF spray system generates a stream of monodispersed droplets of cutting fluid which then gets mixed in a high-velocity gas flow to form a focused axisymmetric jet of droplets. During machining, this jet is able to penetrate the small region of the tool-chip interface helping in lubrication and cooling of the interface. The advantage of the ACF spray system is that it requires very small amount of cutting fluid, which makes the system more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. It has been recently reported that ACF spray system improves machining performances including tool life and reduced temperature near the tool-chip interface in turning Ti-alloy. It is clear from these studies that the reduction in temperature and improvement in machining are mainly dependent on the interaction of the cutting fluid from the ACF spray system with the chip-tool interface. Therefore, it is imperative to have a physics-based understanding of the phenomena taking place at the interface that is responsible for the tool temperature reduction.
In this study, a thermal model for the atomization-based cutting fluid (ACF) spray system is developed to predict the temperature of the cutting edge of the tool during machining of titanium alloys. In the model, film boiling is taken into account because of the high temperatures involved in turning of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Due to film boiling a thin vapor film is formed between the heated tool surface and the droplet. Heat is being conducted away from the tool through this film. WOMEN WELFARE SERVICES IN SHELTERS: A STUDY OF THE PUNJAB’S DAR-UL-AMAN
Shelter homes have been established in almost all over the world to address the issues of violence against women. The government of Pakistan also followed this practice and these institutions are providing relief to distressed and deprived women in terms of psycho-social counseling, medical, lodging and boarding facilities with marketable skill training. These shelter homes are called Dar-ul-Aman. This study has examined the life experiences of 500 women living in 34 Dar-ul-Aman, working under the Department of Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal, Government of the Punjab, Pakistan. Primary data was taken from two involved parties; service-providers and women residing in Dar-ul-Aman. For this purpose, interviews were conducted to collect the information, which was quantitative and qualitative in its nature. The study was to check the role of Dar-ul-Aman as a safe haven for victims of violence, exploring intervention and rehabilitation services. The study also looked in need of a structural overhauling to improve the staff–resident relationship, curbing exploitative practices on shelter premises
Does financial development improve environmental quality in Turkey? An application of endogenous structural breaks based cointegration approach
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the long-run effect of financial sector development, energy use and economic growth on carbon emissions for Turkey, in presence of possible regime shifts over a period of 1960-2013.Design/methodology/approachAlong with the conventional unit root tests, Zivot-Andrews unit root test with structural break has been employed to check the stationarity of variables. The cointegrating relationship between variables is investigated by using the autoregressive distributed lag bounds test and Hatemi-J threshold cointegration test.FindingsThe results confirm a cointegrating relationship between the variables. The long-run relationship between the variables has gone through two endogenous structural breaks in 1976 and 1986. Development of financial sector improves environmental quality whereas energy use and economic growth degrade it. The results challenge the validity of environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis in Turkish economy.Research limitations/implicationsThe study uses domestic credit to private sector as a proxy for development of financial sector. The model can be improved by constructing an index of financial development instead of using a single determinant as a proxy for financial development.Practical implicationsThe study may pave the way for policy makers to capture important environmental pollutants in better way and develop effective and efficient energy and economic policies. This may make significant contribution to curbing CO2emissions while sustaining economic growth.Originality/valueThis is the only study to examine long-run impact of financial sector development on carbon emissions, using the threshold cointegration approach. Hence, the study is a gentle request to reduce the possible omitted variable econometric estimation bias and fill the gap in the existing literature.</jats:sec
Is financial development good for carbon mitigation in India? A regime shift-based cointegration analysis
The present study investigates the long-run impact of financial development, energy consumption and economic growth on greenhouse gas emissions for India, in the presence of endogenous structural breaks, over the period 1971–2013. The autoregressive distributed lag bounds testing procedure (ARDL) and Hatemi-J threshold cointegration technique were used to test the variables for cointegration. ARDL bounds test did not confirm any cointegrating relationship between the variables. The threshold cointegration test establishes the presence of long-run impact of financial development, energy use and economic growth on greenhouse gas emissions in India. The results reveal that the long-run relationship between the variables has witnessed two regime shifts, in 1978 and 2002. The empirical evidence shows that financial sector development and energy consumption in India degrade the environment. Unlike previous studies, this paper finds no statistical evidence of a long-run relationship between economic growth and environmental deterioration. The study also challenges the existence of an environmental Kuznets curve in India
