Experimental analysis of thermal properties of tuff from the Campania region in Italy for the design and performance assessment of ground energy systems
No full textAccurate knowledge of the ground thermal properties is fundamental in de-signing and assessing the performance of ground energy systems (i.e., sys-tems using the ground as a heat source or sink), such as solar plants integrat-ed with seasonal borehole thermal energy storages or geothermal heat pumps.
Tuff is one of the materials most easily found in the ground of the Campania region (southern Italy).
The Transient Plane Source method is a widely used technique for character-izing the thermal properties of an extensive range of materials in a short time.
In this study, the thermal properties of the following two different types of tuff, taken from the ground of the Campania region, have been investigated in the “Built environment control laboratory RIAS” of the Department of Ar-chitecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania Luigi Van-vitelli: 1) “yellow tuff” from the city of Dugenta; 2) “light yellowish brown tuff” from the city of Sant’Agata de’Goti. In particular, the values of thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and volumetric specific heat have been measured via the Hot Disk Thermal Constants Analyser TPS 1000 (based on the Transient Plane Source method) with the aim of providing new and de-tailed data to analyze and support the development of ground energy sys-tems. The experimental data have been compared with the values available in the scientific literature for similar materials; the comparison highlighted how the thermal properties of tuff are significantly influenced by the place from which the samples are collected as well as the measurement method

No full textIn this article in the Symposium on Milosevic & Hussein on Trial, the author discusses the difficulties of trying Saddam in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague to argue that previous cases of genocide have resulted in the political strategy of exile or extermination. Four points that limit the possibilities for an ICJ trial are discussed, & the probable unjustness of the Iraqi Special Tribunal (IST) is related to the treatment of historical cases of Napoleon & Milosevic, & genocide criminals in the Rwanda & Nuremberg criminal trials. The author argues that the current position on genocide according to the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia & Herzegovina (GFA) & the Dayton Accords, leaves the Milosevic & Hussein cases extremely unclear, & advocates handing Saddam over to the Iraqi police, & finds advantages in the probable chance that Milosevic may die before his trial ends. No full textAir-to-water vapor-compression electric heat pumps (HPs) and refrigerating systems (RSs) are widely viewed as a key technology for energy saving and decarbonization of the building sector. In Europe, product energy perfor-mance rating is a mandatory requirement for any manufacturer; however, several scientific studies highlighted a relevant gap between rated and field performance with field results considerably lower than rated data; therefore, there remains a need to clearly define this gap. In this paper, the field per-formance of commercial 14 kW monobloc vapor-compression air-to-water electric HP and RS during both winter and summer of southern Italy have been measured, analyzed and compared with the performance suggested by the manufacturer in order to assess the difference between real operation and rated data. The comparison highlighted that rated data are better than field performance by (i) at least 49.7% in the case of the RS during summer and (ii) at least 26.6% for the HP during summer

the author presented the methodology of employing Imam Hussein`s figure in contemporary Arabic poetry. The methodology has been used in two ways (whole and
partial). Semantics has been used with historical chronology facts. The author has concluded reaching outcomes such as: the deep relation between the poet and the tradition, convinced that in the personality of Hussein and what had happened to him of
pitiable event, strong case and great potential in relating to the anguish of Muslims
and the internal and external challenges they face. Finally the author presented a list
