The Eugene Berman Collection: A Roman Memoir
This memoir recounts the author’s first meetings with David Soren in Tunis and Rome during the summer of 1970. It also records an influential visit to the Roman apartment of a major artist and collector of Etruscan antiquities, Eugene Berman (1899–1972), that same summer and gives a brief description of the collection, now the property of the Italian State. Finally it shows how that visit helped to set the author on a path that would lead to his career as an Etruscologist.DOI:10.2458/azu_jaei_v10i1_de_pum
Drivers and success factors of digital entrepreneurship: A systematic literature review and future research agenda
Digital entrepreneurship is playing an increasingly prominent role for economic growth and development. However, the most effective methods of facilitating it remain unclear, as scholars continue to debate the factors that contribute to its success. We therefore conducted a comprehensive systematic literature review by searching the Web of Science and Scopus databases for empirical studies examining the drivers of successful digital entrepreneurship. By this first review paper on this topic, we were able to identify a total of 45 different drivers, encompassing subjective and objective factors at the individual, organizational, and regional/national levels. While certain drivers were specific to the digital context, such as smart-city initiatives, many aligned with those identified in broader research on entrepreneurial success, such as the educational attainment of founders. To enhance our understanding and facilitate action in promoting digital entrepreneurship, we propose a multi-level conceptual framework that places greater emphasis on specific digital-related drivers

Independent Medical Review: Expanding Legal Remedies to Achieve Managed Care Accountability
Author Leatrice Berman-Sandier reports on independent medical review (IMR), a state-based statutory remedy used to resolve disputes over coverage between patients and their health plans. Ms. Berman-Sandler explores the connection between ERISA preemption and IMR, and opines that in light of recent Supreme Court decisions, the stage has been set for expansion of IMR. Accordingly, Ms. Berman-Sandler concludes that there are strong legal and policy reasons for state legislatures to broaden the application of IMR and for the Court to continue to narrow ERISA preemption in order to increase accountability in the managed care arena
Recurrence in Hemingway and Cézanne
Influence study exploring the presence of Cézanne in Hemingway’s work. Berman addresses motifs such as curving roads, which both the author and the painter employ to show the movement from known to unknown. Draws on passages from Hemingway’s fiction, particularly “The Three-Day Blow,” “The Battler,” and The Sun Also Rises, and an interview with Cézanne to conclude that while the artists rely on recasting empirical images to construct meaning, both acknowledge the ultimate inability of art to fully depict reality
