Posthuman Animals and the Avant-Garde: The Case of Daniel Spoerri
No full textCecilia Novero’s essay situates Daniel Spoerri’s 1995 series of assemblages Carnival of Animals within the legacy of the historical avant-garde. In taking a close look at Carnival’s ingenious recourse to non-organicity, through Spoerri’s reworking of chance, and the readymade, but also “frottage,” the essay argues that the avant-garde helps to envision human and non-human encounters outside anthropocentric and representational frameworks. At the same time that Spoerri’s assemblages leave behind the frameworks of representation, they do not configure a new space of action or being for non-humans. Rather, they point to multiple lines of escape, including the carnivalesque. In short, the essay maintains that Spoerri’s work offers a valuable example of how the avant-garde indeed contributes to the discussion about con-figurations of human and non-human animals.Peer Reviewe
Sindrome di Rapp-Hodgkin. Espressivita fenotipica diversa in membri della stessa famiglia
No full textA 23-year old woman with narrow nose, maxillary hypoplasia, cleft lip and palate, hypodontia, dystrophic nails and hypohidrosis is described. Her scalp hair was coarse, dry and wiry. Microscopic examination of hair showed longitudinal twisting at irregular intervals, typical of pili torti. Her mother presented only dystrophic nails and hypohidrosis. Rapp-Hodgkin syndrome is an uncommon, autosomal dominant condition characterized by distinctive craniofacial anomalies and cleft lip and palate. In the patients observed, the phenotypical manifestations were different. In fact, the proband showed all the major features of the syndrome, while her mother only onychodysplasia and hypohidrosis. The differential diagnosis between Rapp- Hodgkin syndrome and other forms of ectodermal dysplasia are discussed.

Growth and Welfare Effects of Stabilizing Innovation Cycles
Get PDFWe consider a simple model of innovation where equilibrium cycles may arise and show that, whenever actual capital accumulation falls below its balanced growth path, subsidizing innovators by taxing consumers has stabilizing effects, promotes sustained growth and increases welfare. Further, if the steady state is unstable under laissez faire, the introduction of the subsidy can make the steady state stable. Such a policy has beneficial effects as it fosters output growth along the transitional adjustment path, and increases the welfare of current and future generations.Growth, endogenous cycles, stabilization, innovation, subsidy, welfare.

No full textNowadays, smart mobile devices include more and more sensors on board, such as motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer), wireless signal strength indicators (WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee), and visual sensors (LiDAR, camera). People have developed various indoor positioning techniques based on these sensors. In this paper, the probabilistic fusion of multiple sensors is investigated in a hidden Markov model (HMM) framework for mobile-device user-positioning. We propose a graph structure to store the model constructed by multiple sensors during the offline training phase, and a multimodal particle filter to seamlessly fuse the information during the online tracking phase. Based on our algorithm, we develop an indoor positioning system on the iOS platform. The experiments carried out in a typical indoor environment have shown promising results for our proposed algorithm and system design
