Potential of three conjugated polymers namely suIphonic acid-doped polyanilines (sulphuric acid doped polyaniline (SPAN), dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid-doped polyaniline (DBSA-doped PANI) and champor sulphonic acid -doped polyaniline (CSA-doped PANI)) as sensing agents for O2 gas detection in terms of fluorescence quenching was studied. Sensing tests were carried out on polymer samples in the form of solution by using fluorescence spectrometer. SPAN solution was excited at 308 nm and the maximum emission was observed at 363 nm. DBSA-doped PANI solution and CSA-doped PANT solution were excited at 313 nm. Meanwhile, the maximum emission for DBSA-doped PANI solution and CSA-doped PANI solution were observed at 373 nm and 395 nm, respectively. Samples of polymer solution showed positive response towards O2. Results showed that the intensity of the fluorescence decreased when exposed to O2 gas. All polymer solutions were fully regenerated by using N2 gas within 1 hour period. Photostability study showed that all samples of polymer solution were stable towards light when continuously exposed to xenon lamp for 9 hours. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values for SPAN solution, DBSA doped PANI solution and CSA-doped PANI solution for repeatability were 0.23 %, 0.64 % and 0.76 %, respectively. Meanwhile RSD values for reproducibility were 2.36 %, 6.98 % and 1.27 %, respectively. The study on effect of the flow rate on the response time was carried using 3 different rates which were 0.25 mL/s, 1.00 mL/s and 2.00 mL/s. Results obtained showed that the higher the flow rate, the shorter the response time

There is a close relationship between literature and life because the social function of literature is how it involves itself in people\u27s lives. The purpose of this research is to find out the sociology of literature, which examines it through three contexts, first, the social context of the author; second, literature as a mirror of society; third, the social function of literature in the novel Siti Nurbaya by Marah Rusli. The method in this research uses descriptive qualitative. In this case, the writer first describes the social context of Marah Rusli\u27s novel Siti Nurbaya, then analyzes the content of the novel and then looks at the relationship between the problems in the novel, and then adjusts it to socio-cultural conditions. The results of the analysis show that Siti Nurbaya\u27s novel, in terms of the author\u27s social context, that in Siti Nurbaya\u27s novel, is based on the bad experience of the author, Marah Rusli. Siti Nurbaya\u27s novel reflects the many problems of society in Siti Nurbaya\u27s era, such as polygamy, pride in nobility, customs in Padang, child sacrifices for their parents, and so on. Meanwhile, there is a social function of literature in the novel, which includes rebellion, literary works as entertainment, and entertainingly teaching something

A preliminary study on understanding and attitude towards chemical labeling using Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for secondary level students in Terengganu / Sarifah Fauziah Syed Draman, Rusli Daik and Mohd Lazim Abdullah

Chemical substances can be handled safely if properties of the chemical substances are wholly understood and the chemicals are properly managed. Improper use of the chemicals can cause accidents. Limitation of knowledge and training seem to be the factors for the chemical accidents. In Malaysia students are exposed to handling of chemical substances as early as at primary level but they usually handle chemical substances themselves including hazardous substances at secondary level when they are involved in laboratory activities. Therefore, understanding on classification and labeling of chemicals amongst secondary level students is crucial. Globally Harmonized System (GHS) is chosen in this study because this system is expected to be adopted internationally, and will replace the relevant laws and regulations used in different countries worldwide. Methodology for this study is descriptive quantitative survey. Cluster probability sampling was used for secondary levels students in Terengganu. Results found show that the students of secondary levels cannot recognize chemical substance correctly by using GHS. Attitude towards the importance of chemical labeling is also being discussed. Positive attitude are needed for good behavior while handling chemical substances. Results of this study show that a few factors such as schools and teachers affect the students understanding towards chemical substances labeling. Therefore, it is suggested that the hazard communication based on GHS should be incorporated into chemistry curriculum for secondary schools

Synthesis and characterisation of poly(arylene vinylene)s

The synthesis of a series of poly(arylene vinylene)s via transition metals catalysed polycondensation with a view to producing well defined and clean samples for study , particularly for the incorporation of the material in light emitting devices has been described. Initially the McMurry reaction was applied in the synthesis of poly(4,4'-diphenylene diphenylvinylene). The reaction conditions have been optimised and relatively high molecular weight polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions were produced by fractionating the polymer. The feasibility of the McMurry reaction was established in the synthesis of related polymers; including poly(l,3-phenylene diphenylvinylene), poly(l,3-phenylene dimesitoylvinylene) and poly(4,4'-diphenylene-l,2-bis(pentafluorophenyl)vinylene). In other attempts the Yamamoto and Suzuki polycondensations were applied in the synthesis of structurally defined poly(arylene vinylene)s which could not be made via the route used earlier. Studies on UV-visible absorption, photoluminescence and electroluminescence properties of polymers produced were carried out and correlation between polymer structure and electro-optical properties of the polymer, particularly photoluminescence has been established

An ionic liquid, 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BmimCl) was blended with urea at 1:1 mole ratio to create a BmimCl/Urea mixture. The agarose/talc composite films containing the BmimCl/Urea mixture were then acquired through a gelation method. The weight ratio of agarose and talc was fixed at 4:1, while the content of BmimCl/Urea was varied from 0 to 10 wt % relative to the overall weight of the composite films. The tensile stress and modulus results showed the optimum BmimCl/Urea content in the composite film lies at 8 wt %. The talc particles are embedded in the agarose matrix and there are no pullouts for the composite films containing BmimCl/Urea as demonstrated by SEM micrographs. The addition of BmimCl/Urea increased the glass transition temperature of the composite films, however, the thermal decomposition temperature decreased drastically. FTIR and FT-Raman spectra indicated the existence of interaction between agarose and talc, which improves their interfacial adhesion. As a conclusion, a BmimCl/Urea mixture can be utilized as a coupling agent for agarose/talc composite films

In summarization, the report explained on the climbing tower crane system that used to transport all the construction material whether parallel or vertical. The use of tower crane has been an impact to the engineering industry commonly in construction. This technology makes the building design increase in height. The objective, of usage of tower crane will be increase in time, because building nowadays were built in great height because the government or the owner want to save up space of land for another usage. From the research on site that the author made, climbing tower crane construction is not an easy job to do. It needs a serious care from the builder. It is not as easy as some people think. In this practical report, it will briefly explain about theoretically research about climbing tower crane in construction industry. Furthermore, the practical report will also explain about the component that makes the tower crane complete. Then, this practical report will explained about the construction of climbing tower crane from early of construction until the completion of the tower crane. For every construction site, there will be a problem that came out as the builder commencing the construction. So the ability to cope with the problem is important and it needs to have in every person that involved in construction industry. This practical report has enlisted all the problem and way to encounter the problem about the construction of climbing tower crane. Lastly, the author hopes that all the reader that read this practical report book can understand more about the tower crane clearly
