Support citizens in visualising open data
This paper contributes in the field of Open Data and their visualisations, trying to reduce the gap between the public institutions (who publish Open Data) and citizens, providing awareness of data quality and supporting them during the process of chart creation. Proposed solution syntactically analyses the dataset's values to infer its data types and continually shows a list of chart visualisations compatible with the selected dataset and its fields. Instead to start with a catalogue containing all available charts, the system reduces the space of charts proposing any time only those that are compatible. In addition, a well-known barrier in the use of Open Data is the poor quality of the available datasets, thus, this paper proposes two quality indexes to provide at glance awareness of the dataset quality. This provides a quantitative measurement to dataset publishers (e.g., public institutions), who can evaluate the data quality, and also the citizens, who can ask for better open datasets providing a reason for such request
Il paesaggio salentino in Donato Valli tra arte e letteratura
EnThe essay is about the "view", a very important theme in Donato Valli's work. The study leads to a "street of dreams", walking along the Oriental coast of Salento peninsula up to Leuca. Donato Valli creates an "autobiographical space" thanks to his memory lane. It is supported by literary references of poets such as Vittorio Bodini and painters like Vincenzo Ciardo. Actually, Vincenzo Ciardo's works focus on olive tree leitmotiv, a traditional deity in Salento.
Helical tomotherapy: an innovative radiotherapy technique for the treatment of locally advanced oropharynx and inoperable oral cavity carcinoma.
Background: To report our initial clinical experience of helical tomotherapy (HT) in the treatment of locally advanced oropharynx and inoperable oral cavity cancer. Methods: Between February 2008 and January 2011, 24 consecutive patients, 15 with oropharyngeal cancer and 9 with oral cavity cancer were treated with exclusive radiotherapy or concomitant chemoradiotherapy. Simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) in 30 fractions scheme was prescribed to all patients, using Helical Tomotherapy. Doses administered to primary tumor, oropharynx/oral cavity and positive lymph-nodes and negative lymph-nodes were 66-67.5 Gy, 60-63 Gy and 54 Gy, respectively. Results: Complete response rate for the oropharynx and the oral cavity group was 86.7% and 77.8%, respectively. The 1 and 2-year Overall Survival (OS) and Disease Free Survival (DFS) rate for the oropharynx group was 92.9%, 85.1%, 92.9% and 77.4% respectively. For the oral cavity group, 1 and 2-year OS and DFS rates were 55.6%, 55.6%, 75% and 75%, respectively. No patient developed grade ≥3 mucositis, dysphagia or dermatitis. The maximum late-toxicity grade observed was 2, for all the variables examined. Conclusions: HT appears to achieve encouraging clinical outcomes in terms of response, survival and toxicity rates. © 2013 Donato et al.; licensee BioMed Central Ltd
