METAPOLIS.
Model for analysis and evaluation of risks in Project Financing operations
The current paper is intended to support the stage of evaluating the potential investment project,
providing an instrument for quantification of the risks in the various operations and for identification of the
levels of maximum risk characterising the particular type of project under examination. The conceptual approach
considers three types of works, categorised according to their remunerative capacities: ‘hot’, ‘warm’
and ‘cold’. Beginning from this division we then conduct a data collection process to identify the descriptive
characteristics useful for comparison of the three types.
We regard each input to the model as a parameter to be evaluated, for purposes of identifying a range within
which to evaluate the risks of a specific project, belonging to one the types of works (hot, warm, cold). For
this we develop a questionnaire for submission to experts. The calculation of the frequency of answers to the
questionnaire permits identification of characteristic values for each descriptive variable, for each of the types
of works. These values are gather in an input matrix, developed as part of the model.
We then develop a conceptual scheme to relate the variables of the different forms of Public-Private Partnerships.
We next translate the conceptual scheme as an interactive model.
The variables chosen for evaluation of the risks are evaluated in terms of the impact on each sub-type. This
leads to a dynamic analysis for calculation of the minimum and maximum risk linked to each input, and obtains
an interval in which to place each specific result from the analysis carried out using the model. The result
is identification of a range for evaluation of the riskiness of the projects, as the determining factor in
guiding the acceptance or rejection of PF investment proposal on the part of the market or concessionary
Sports Facility Safety Plans: A Framework for Evaluation of Evacuation Times
The objective of the work is to propose a model that can analyse the conformity of a stadium, sports field or other
sports facility to Italian safety norms. The model serves in particular to analyse the adequacy of the facility ‘safety plan’ in
terms of its definition of the stages, procedures and times for evacuation of the facility. The model is structured in modular
form, beginning with an analysis of the conformity of the sports facility to the applicable norms. This first stage applies a series
of purpose-developed checklists to describe the facility as defined by Ministerial Decrees 18/03/1996 and 06/06/2005.
Following this, the facility is characterized in terms of its location, dimensions and structural type. The next stages are: i) the
analysis and estimation of the evacuation times, on the basis of the information previously gathered on the facilities; ii) the
evaluation of conformity with the safety plan for the particular facility, applying the results from the previous steps. The
proposed framework can be used as an instrument in support of decision-making for improvement in the safety levels of the
sports facility, through augmenting the effectiveness of procedures and equipment, while also considering the economic
implications of the potential improvements
An adaptive educational hypermedia system for supporting students in their traditional learning process in computer engineering education
Our "information-oriented" society shows an increasing exigency of life-long learning. In such context, the E-Learning approach allows flexibility requested by such kind of learning process. With a plethora of E-Learning providers and solutions available on the market, there is a new kind of problem: the selection of the most suitable E-Learning contents for the various users. In this scenario, Adaptive Educational Hypermedia System can be an effective approach. This paper addresses the design problem of an adaptive educational hypermedia system by the definition of its main components: the user model, the learning contentmodel tracking strategy andthe adaptationmodel are introduced. The proposedAdaptive Educational Hypermedia System has been integrated in an e-Learning platform, Moodle. An experimental campaign has been conducted with interesting results

Financial derivatives for risk management in shipping operations: a simulation model applied to the oil and gas sector
The objective of the study is to demonstrate the utility of financial derivatives instruments in risk protection for logistics. In the specific case, we model the application of financial instruments to shipping operations in the oil and gas sector. We first identify all risks confronting actors in international shipping operations: exchange and interest rate fluctuations, and variations in freight and commodity prices. Next we provide a brief summary of three major types of financial derivatives contracts: futures, swaps and options. Finally, we apply numerical simulations to identify appropriate cover against financial risks through application of the derivatives instruments. The methodology serves as a guide to efficient and effective advance planning and management of risk. Companies can: i) measure risk parameters; ii) compare the projected performance of alternate financial tools for their reduction; iii) select the appropriate instruments on the basis of cost and benefit standards defined by the company
To Kick or Not to Kick: An Affective Computing Question
With the Web 2.0 and its services, the users are able to express their own emotions through the production and sharing of multimedia contents. In this context, we can interpret the flood of selfies that everyday invades the web as the will to overcome the limits of the textual communication. Therefore, it becomes particularly interesting the possibility to extract in an automatic way information about the emotional state of the people present in the multimedia content. The knowledge of a person’s emotional state gives useful information for the personalization of many online services. Some examples of the areas where such an approach can be adopted are the services for the content recommendation, for the entertainment and for the distance training. In this paper, the techniques of sentiment extraction from multimedia contents will be applied to the sports world. In particular, the aim is to verify the possibility to predict the result of a penalty kick analyzing the player’s face. The objective is to investigate the possibility to evaluate in real time the psychic conditions of an athlete during a competition. The system has been tested on an opportunely built dataset and the results are more than satisfying
