“La mappa e il corpo come veicoli di memoria: una rilettura de Il cartografo. Varsavia 1:400.000, di Juan Mayorga”

    No full text
In The Cartographer, the playwright Juan Mayorga recovers for the present, and in an original and oblique way, some of the events that took place in the Warsaw ghetto in the first half of the 1940s. The piece makes explicit a parallelism between cartographic art and theatrical writing and at the same time translates it into practice through its own architecture. The map and the human body become there means of resistance to the impositions of History and vehicles of a memory that strives to save a part of the past and which allows to look at it with a renewed gaze and as an invisible part of the present. The historical theater advocated by Mayorga must be able to constitute itself, in the wake of Walter Benjamin, in a dialectical image, that is to determine an encounter between the present and the past that destabilizes both these poles, making the present see the past in a new light and look at himself as it hadn't done before

La escritura forja mundos (y engaños): El chico de la última fila, de Juan Mayorga

The article presents a detailed analysis of The Boy in the Last Row, by Juan Mayorga, based on its most recent printed version (2014; first Spanish edition: 2006). The study highlights the metaleptic construction of the play, as well as the thematic importance of the creative and deceptive power of fiction. The work, brought to the stage in numerous countries and adapted to the cinema by Francoise Ozon (In the House, 2012), is interpreted in the present study as a mise en abyme of the process of literary communication, which entails the potential of writing to broaden the horizons of the receiver, as well as the risks that this implies for those who do not distinguish the plane of fiction from reality. Moreover, this article discusses other motifs present in The Boy in the Last Row and sheds light on the dynamics established in the relationships of the main characters. It also considers this play's relation to other works written by Mayorga. (EDP). © 2018 Society of Spanish and Spanish-American Studies.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
