Previous issue date: 2013-03-21This Master's thesis in Theology, entitled "The Mucker Movement under the light of early Christianity on the interpretation of Rinaldo Fabris and Jos? Comblin", studies the Mucker Movement, which was born in 1868, in S?o Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, and was terminated at August 1874. It consisted of German immigrants and descendants, belonging to Protestant and Catholic churches, inserted in a society where they felt marginalized by the capitalism. Around the healer Jo?o Jorge Maurer and his wife Jacobina Mentz, who from 1873 went on to lead the movement, was started a religious group that was later called Mucker. Together, they have created a society capable of correcting social injustices, a society different from the one where they used to live. The movement, which challenged the civil and religious power in the mid-nineteenth century, will be confronted with the religious movement that Jesus of Nazareth has created in Palestine in the first century, the Christianity, since there was also, in his society, injustices similar to those that existed in the German immigrants one. It is therefore a work that approaches the two movements: the one leaded by Jacobina Mentz and early Christianity, originated by Jesus of Nazareth.A presente disserta??o de Mestrado em Teologia, O Movimento Mucker ? luz do cristianismo primitivo na interpreta??o de Rinaldo Fabris e Jos? Comblin, estuda o movimento, que nasceu em 1868, na sociedade de S?o Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, e foi exterminado em agosto de 1874. Era composto de imigrantes alem?es e descendentes, pertencentes ?s igrejas Protestante e Cat?lica, inseridos numa sociedade em que, pelo capitalismo, sentiam-se marginalizados. Em torno do curandeiro Jo?o Jorge Maurer e sua esposa Jacobina Mentz que, a partir de 1873, passou a liderar o movimento, nasceu um grupo religioso que mais tarde foi chamado de Mucker. Unidos, criaram uma sociedade capaz de corrigir as injusti?as sociais, diferente daquela em que viviam. Soil fertility management strategies in irrigated peri-urban agriculture around Jos, Nigeria—an interdisciplinary approach
No full textThis thesis examines soil fertility management strategies in dry season irrigated vegetable production (DSIVP) in peri-urban areas of Jos, Nigeria. Farmers have developed a complex strategy of mixing inorganic fertilisers with organic manure and town refuse ash (produced by open burning, and sorting for non-combustible components). The thesis aimed to gain insights into the sustainability (in terms of nutrient supply) of the local agricultural system, acquire an understanding of past and present fertiliser practices and the rationale behind them, provide an appreciation of the role played by urban waste ash and the risks attached to its use, and place the problem of soil fertility in a wider context of farming problems. An inter-disciplinary approach was adopted so the methods used are: chemical analysis of soil and inputs (i.e. refuse ash), questionnaire surveys, semi-structured interviews (with farmers and PADP, JMDB, FUA etc.) and participant observation. The thesis observed that farmers have in-depth, but informal, empirically-derived knowledge about fertiliser application, which explains their past success in soil fertility maintenance. The tremendous increase in DSIVP in the last decade, though, has brought about a scarcity of organic amendments; farmers are increasingly reliant on inorganic fertilisers, probably over-applying them. Although this is not an immediate threat to the stability of the system, it may lead to soil acidification in the near future. Urban waste ash can counteract soil acidification (high pH and base cations), but certain batches can be contaminated by heavy metals, and indeed there is some indication of accumulation in the crops of the study farms. The problem of soil fertility needs to be addressed, however, farmers' short-term concerns (particularly access to credit facilities) need to be solved first. It is imperative that the Nigerian Government should take note of these issues and rapidly take steps to solve them

No full textThrough the graphic novel V for Vendetta by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, I problematize here the act of classification of the subgenres within each genre. This is a literary study that aims to reflect on the utopian genre. It is a genre which requires in order to be understood a consideration of society and its organization. The concept of society cannot be properly discussed without mentioning the surface on which it is based: people with their selves and their bodies. Institutions and conventions act subtly and constantly on us, offering more or less free roles, usually related to a particular physical appearance, as may be the mode of dress, or gesture- and generating a negotiation between our desires and our duties. In other words, they act on us to transform us into people suitable for the smooth running of the communityA través de la novel·la gràfica V for Vendetta, d'Alan Moore i David Lloyd, es problematitza aquí l'acte de classificació dins els subgèneres del gènere. Aquest és un estudi literari, un treball que pretén reflexionar entorn al gènere utòpic.
