Agora Europa (AE)
Agora Europe is a 4-year project, thus moving towards the 9th EU elections. Every AE year will feature up to 4 tours through
different countries and shed light on a specific theme of European interest. This application refers only to AE2015/16. AE
2015/16 starts with the umbrella topic “Youth Unemployment - What is Wrong with Europe's Labour Markets?” It will go
to Croatia/Italy (autumn 2015). Romania (spring 2016) and Germany (summer 2016). Each local agora partner (LAP) will
either host an AE in its city or be part of an AE of another LAP. Each AE will last 2 or 3 days. The physical centrepiece of
each AE will be a 25 sqm pagoda tent, pitched on an inner-city spot
INNOVATIVE MEDIA EDUCATION ON FUNCTIONAL LITERACY FOR YOUTH (INNO-FLIT)
NNO FLIT has the overall objective of preventing functional illiteracy by an innovative non formal educative approach in the field of social media information.
In particular, the project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:
1) Empower formal education institutions delivering and sharing the innovative methodology;
2) Educate young people to a correct relation with media information;
3) Increase the correct and critical individual behaviour in front of information
INNOVATIVE MEDIA EDUCATION ON FUNCTIONAL LITERACY FOR YOUTH
INNO FLIT aims to share, develop and disseminate best practices in non formal educational activities in order to improve the
capacity of disadvantaged people, NEET in this case, in collecting, interpreting and disseminating informations coming from digital
sources.
According to the horizontal priority "open and innovative practices in the digital era", the project will disseminate the non formal
practice for the digital information's education that will represent a youth pedagogy and work methods for youth workers at any
level; the partnership will include both educational instiutions at tertiary and secondary level, small medium enterpises and NGO's
active in the field of youth.
According to the horizontal priority "social inclusion", the project will address formal and non-formal education and training in order
to develop critical thinking, civic consciousness and intercultural competences to young people (14-18 years old) and NEETs;
moreover, considering the link between functonal illiteracy and the uncapability to manage the high flow of information, the actions
will increase the level of literecy of the people involved
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
[Serum activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme and osteocalcin levels in hyperthyroidism
This study was carried out in order to investigate serum changes of osteocalcin (BGP) and angiotensin converting enzyme (SACE) activity in a group of patients with hyperthyroidism. We studied 20 hyperthyroid patients (F 14, M 6; age mean 37.5 +/- 16.8 years) and 13 control subjects (F 11, M 2; age mean 40.3 +/- 7.5 years). In both patients and controls we measured: FT3, FT4, T3, T4, TSH, BGP, SACE. Finally, in patients with hyperthyroidism a TRH test and functional investigations were also performed. We observed that mean SACE levels were significantly increased in hyperthyroid patients (32.06 +/- 10.3 nmol/ml/min) in respect to control subjects (14.66 +/- 3.88 nmol/ml/min) (p = 2.02 E-6). Similarly serum BGP levels were significantly increased in hyperthyroid patients (5.94 +/- 2.55 ng/ml) than in control subjects (2.89 +/- 1.58 ng/ml) (p = 5.66 E-4). There was a significant linear correlation between SACE and T4 levels (r = 0.48; p < 0.05), between serum BGP and T4 (r = 0.50; p < 0.02) and furthermore between SACE and BGP (r = 0.57; p < 0.01). In conclusion both serum BGP and SACE levels are increased in patients with hyperthyroidism and are directly correlated between than and with indexes of thyroid function; therefore, they may be regarded as peripheral indexes of hyperthyroidism
