Towards gait-based human identification using front view depth images
There are several competing approaches towards identifying humans based on their biometrics. In this thesis, we designed, implemented a system towards human front gait identification. We leveraged the depth information obtained from front view depth image of a person. We explain how basic features which can be extracted from the depth image of an individual can be used for identifying a person correctly. Basic features such as depth values of legs, the angle between the legs and height of the person are utilized. Fracture Management in Osteopetrosis: an Intrguing Enigma – a Guide for Surgeons
Osteopetrosis is a disorder of diminished bone resorption with hard and brittle bones resulting in high rates of perioperative complications during an operative intervention. We present a series of 4 Subtrochanteric fractures treated surgically in 3 patients of Osteopetrosis in a tertiary level Orthopaedic centre over the last 3 years with an aim to highlight our preparation and technique, especially as a guide to other surgeons, to minimise the complication rates and optimise the results. The patients had a mean Harris Hip Score of 85, at a mean follow up of 21.5 months; the fractures united and all patients successfully returned to their normal activities of daily living
Highly Efficient Dual-Side Wireless Power Transfer:: Implementation of Synchronization and Wireless Communication
This thesis presents a practical topology for achieving highly efficient dual-side wireless power transfer (WPT). Traditional WPT systems with a diode rectifier on the secondary side lack flexibility in load matching, requiring the integration of an additional dc/dc converter at the back end. However, this approach leads to increased power losses and costs. In contrast, this thesis proposes the use of an active rectifier comprising MOSFETs, replacing the diode rectifier. By employing a dual active bridge topology with dual-side control, optimal load tracking is achieved by tuning one side and communicating the desired duty cycle or phase angle to the other side. To address practical challenges, two key aspects are considered. Firstly, synchronization is established between the generated current on thesecondary side and the new active rectifier, enabling efficient load tracking and the potential for zero voltage switching (ZVS). This is accomplished using a printed circuit board (PCB) equipped with zero current crossing detection (ZCCD), validated with an 85kHz test signal. The PCB triggers the PWM output of the secondary side microcontroller with a latency of less than < 50ns, utilizing the trip-zone digital compare sub-block integrated into the TMS320F28379D. Secondly, seamless wireless communication between the primary and secondary sides is essential. While the secondary side can measurethe current and voltage across the load to adjust its duty cycle for optimal conditions, the primary side lacks this information. Therefore, the secondary side transmits the new duty cycle to the primary side toensure consistent power flow. The nRF24L01+ wifi module is utilized as a dual-purpose transmitter and receiver for achieving wireless communication. Validation of this wireless communication is performedby remotely controlling an external LED, connected to the receiver side, from a distance of approximately 5m.accurately to the transmitted values. Functional and Radiological Outcomes of Anterior Decompression and Posterior Stabilization via Posterior Transpedicular Approach in Thoracic and Thoracolumbar Pott&apos;s Disease: A Retrospective Study
<sec><title>Study Design</title><p>This is a retrospective study.</p></sec><sec><title>Purpose</title><p>To determine the efficacy and safety of a posterior transpedicular approach with regard to functional and radiological outcomes in people with thoracic and thoracolumbar spinal tuberculosis.</p></sec><sec><title>Overview of Literature</title><p>Spinal tuberculosis can cause serious morbidity, including permanent neurological deficits and severe deformities. Medical treatment or a combination of medical and surgical strategies can control the disease in most patients, thereby decreasing morbidity incidence. A debate always existed regarding whether to achieve both decompression and stabilization via a combined anterior and posterior approach or a single posterior approach exists.</p></sec><sec><title>Methods</title><p>The study was conducted at the Indian Spinal injuries Centre and included all patients with thoracic and thoracolumbar Pott's disease who were operated via a Posterior transpedicular approach. Data regarding 60 patients were analyzed with respect to the average operation time, preoperative and postoperative, 6 months and final follow-up American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) grading, bony fusion, implant loosening, implant failure, preoperative, postoperative, 6 months and final follow-up kyphotic angles, a loss of kyphotic correction, Oswestry disability index (ODI) score, and visual analog scale (VAS) score. Data were analyzed using either a paired t -test or a Wilcoxon Signed Rank test.</p></sec><sec><title>Results</title><p>The mean operation time was 260±30 minutes. Fifty-five patients presented with evidence of successful bony fusion within a mean period of 6±1.5 months. Preoperative dorsal and lumbar angles were significantly larger than postoperative angles, which were smaller than final follow-up angles. The mean kyphotic correction achieved was 12.11±14.8, with a mean decrease of 5.97 and 19.1 in VAS and ODI scores, respectively.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusions</title><p>Anterior decompression and posterior stabilization via a posterior transpedicular approach are safe and effective procedures, with less intraoperative surgical duration and significant improvements in clinical and functional status.</p></sec></jats:p

Amplifier design for an implementation of motional feedback in a bass loudspeaker
The displacement of a loudspeaker cone is not linearly proportional to the voltage/current at its input provided. This is due to electrical and mechanical limitations. The distortion is more noticeable at lower frequencies. This report is one of two reports, that will explain how to minimize this distortion. The motion of the loudspeaker cone will be measured and compared with the input voltage. This way the error in the output can be found. Finally, a system will adjust the current through the voice coil to decrease this error. An accelerometer is used as a sensor and the ADAU1777 is used to compensate for the error in output displacement. Finally, a voltage to current converter is used to convert and amplify the output voltage from the ADAU1777 into a current signal to drive the loudspeaker. This report focuses on the voltage to current amplifier. To begin the design, a problem definition and program of requirements will be given. Usually, loudspeakers are voltage driven. This report begins by first explaining why a current-driven loudspeaker delivers less distortion. Then an attempt is made to build a single operational amplifier (opamp) design that meets the requirements for a real load. For the single opamp design, a simple version of the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) will be compared against a Howland model based on noise performance and circuit analysis, where it will be shown that the simple OTA has a larger signal to noise ratio and does not need to meet any additional criteria to maintain a high output impedance. However, the simple OTA still does not meet the Signal to Noise (SNR) . The simple OTA also did not meet the maximum Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at 800 Hz. Then, a two opamp design will be constructed using a composite configuration to increase the SNR and decrease the THD. This design does meet the requirements given, at least for a purely resistive load. Then an electrical model of a loudspeaker, which has a complex impedance, will replace the resistive load. Now the composite design for the resistive load needs to be adjusted for the inductive characteristic of a loudspeaker at higher frequencies. The resulting design has a THD of 0.000427\%, a PM of 51 and a SNR is 100.92 dB. All results will be given as simulations, because the current pandemic (COVID-19) does not make it possible to physically construct and measure this model. A network-centric approach for estimating trust between open source software developers
Trust between developers influences the success of open source software (OSS) projects. Although existing research recognizes the importance of trust, there is a lack of an effective and scalable computational method to measure trust in an OSS community. Consequently, OSS project members must rely on subjective inferences based on fragile and incomplete information for trust-related decision making. We propose an automated approach to assist a developer in identifying the trustworthiness of another developer. Our two-fold approach, first, computes direct trust between developer pairs who have interacted previously by analyzing their interactions via natural language processing. Second, we infer indirect trust between developers who have not interacted previously by constructing a community-wide developer network and propagating trust in the network. A large-scale evaluation of our approach on a GitHub dataset consisting of 24,315 developers shows that contributions from trusted developers are more likely to be accepted to a project compared to contributions from developers who are distrusted or lacking trust from project members. Further, we develop a pull request classifier that exploits trust metrics to effectively predict the likelihood of a pull request being accepted to a project, demonstrating the practical utility of our approach.Interactive Intelligenc
Recovery of Dysphagia in Lateral Medullary Stroke
Lateral medullary stroke is typically associated with increased likelihood of occurrence of dysphagia and exhibits the most severe and persistent form. Worldwide little research exists on dysphagia in brainstem stroke. An estimated 15% of all patients admitted to stroke rehabilitation units experience a brainstem stroke out of which about 47% suffer from dysphagia. In India, a study showed that 22.3% of posterior circulation stroke patients develop dysphagia. Dearth of literature on dysphagia and its outcome in brainstem stroke particularly lateral medullary stroke motivated the author to present an actual case study of a patient who had dysphagia following a lateral medullary infarct. This paper documents the severity and management approach of dysphagia in brainstem stroke, with traditional dysphagia therapy and VitalStim therapy. Despite being diagnosed with a severe form of dysphagia followed by late treatment intervention, the patient had complete recovery of the swallowing function
