Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Modelagem matemática para produção de hidrogênio em um reator termoquímico solar de membrana a partir da reforma a vapor do metanol
Nas últimas décadas, há um interesse crescente no desenvolvimento de tecnologias que utilizam fontes de energia limpa (ANJOS et al. 2019). Desta forma, reduzir a poluição do ar e particularmente as emissões de gases de efeito estufa se tornou essencial. Entre as tecnologias para mitigar essas emissões, a energia solar e o hidrogênio estão sendo cada vez mais utilizados, pois podem ser convertidos em eletricidade, combustíveis e outros insumos importantes para a sociedade. Entre as várias maneiras de produzir hidrogênio, a Reforma Solar do Metanol a Vapor (RVSM) está recebendo muita atenção dos pesquisadores porque é um processo de temperatura operacional baixa (600 K) e limpo em comparação com as reformas tradicionais de hidrocarbonetos (tolueno e metano). Assim, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a produção de hidrogênio e o desempenho de um Reator Termoquímico Solar de Membrana (RTSM) através de um modelo matemático unidimensional. Este modelo foi representado pelo balanço de massa dos componentes presentes no RVSM e pelo balanço de energia dos fenômenos térmicos de um RTSM. A metodologia utilizada para a solução foi a formulação conhecida como Coupled Integral Equation Approach (CIEA), pois permite resolver as equações de uma forma ágil e pouco esforço computacional (ANJOS et al. 2019). Após o uso da CIEA, foi desenvolvido um código de linguagem de computador FORTRAN 95, gerando os resultados gráficos deste trabalho, que foram validados com os resultados disponíveis em Lougou et al. (2017). Esses resultados representam o comportamento térmico do RTSM, com incidência variável de energia solar na cavidade de entrada do reator, e o comportamento dos componentes presentes no RVSM, a saber: metanol, monóxido de carbono, água, hidrogênio e dióxido de carbono. Assim, foi possível concluir que no processo RVSM ocorre a conversão de metanol em água, produzindo hidrogênio e que o modelo e a técnica de solução utilizados são aconselháveis para realizar simulações e previsões de um RTSM, auxiliando na eficiência do processo
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Modelagem Matemática de um Reator Trifásico de Leito Fixo para Indústria do Petróleo e Petroquímica
Os Reatores Trifásicos de Leito Fixo (RTLFs) são sistemas no qual uma fase gasosa e uma fase líquida estão conectados ao leito fixo de partículas catalíticas. Eles são usados nos processos de hidrodessulfurização, hidrotratamento, hidrocraqueamento, reforma catalítica e são bem aplicados nas indústrias químicas, bioquímicas, petroquímica e refinaria do petróleo (Silva, 2012). Porém ao longo do seu funcionamento pontos-quentes (hot-spot) podem aparecer no leito desse reator, podendo prejudicar o bom funcionamento e o seu controle, inibindo o catalisador do processo (Niegodajew e Asendrych, 2017). Desta forma, realizou-se a modelagem matemática das equações de balanço de energia do modelo proposto, permitindo uma análise detalhada da variação de temperatura ao longo do tempo e da influência do coeficiente de transferência de calor (hfp) no processo do reator. Além disso, a modelagem matemática foi realizada usando uma ferramenta matemática, resolvendo analiticamente a transformação das Equações Diferenciais Parciais (EDPs) em Equações Diferencias Ordinárias (EDOs) a partir da Técnica das Equações Integrais Acopladas (TEIA), que permite apresentar resultados mais precisos do que outros métodos mais convencionais, em menor tempo de CPU (Knupp et al., 2012). Além disso, teve o auxílio de um software em linguagem Fortran 95 para obter os resultados da EDO pelo método de Euler. Desta forma, a partir das operações matemáticas foi possível obter os gráficos das temperaturas versus tempo e, também, foi notado a influência de sensibilidade do hfp, que é um parâmetro importante para o estudo dos pontos-quentes, obtendo os seguintes resultados: As evoluções da Temperatura gás-liquido (Tgl(K)) foram avaliadas a partir das formulações H0,0|H0,0 e H1,1|H0.0 que são aproximações da TEIA, permitindo notar a transferência de energia das fases gás-líquido para a fase sólida em intervalos de tempo de 1≤ t ≤ 2;. O efeito do hfp sobre as evoluções das Tgl(K) e Temperatura da fase sólida (Ts(K)) foi realizado. Conclui-se que as Tgl(K) e Ts(K) crescem à medida que hfp aumenta como consequência do efeito de hfp, este parâmetro deve ser considerado no controle de processo do RLFT. Além disso, foi realizado um estudo comparativo das fases gás-líquido e sólido, percebendo que a temperatura da fase sólida atinge valores mais altos em relação à fase fluida, controlando o comportamento térmico do reator
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
