The author highlights the political and military activities of one of the prominent representatives of the Yuriev-Zakharyin family — Daniil Romanovich — in the assessments of famous domestic historians of the second half of the 20th century. Mention of him in the writings of scientists of previous times
are rare. The author aims to study the Soviet historiographical heritage regarding the activities of D. R. Yuriev, during the reign of Ivan IV. The object of this work is the historiography of Russian history in the mid-16th century, and the subject is the views of historians of the Soviet era, mainly on the administrative and military activities of D. R. Yuriev. The article analyzes the judgments of researchers about the main career milestones of D. R. Yuriev. The conclusion is substantiated that in Soviet historiography
the views on the role of D. R. Yuriev surrounded by Ivan IV did not differ in consensus. Historians noted that D. R. Yuriev enjoyed the confidence of Grozny, they wrote about Daniil Romanovich as a boyar of a closer duma, the regent under Tsarevich Ivan. Although Daniil Romanovich was able to maintain a high position until his death. Researchers did not include this representative of a prominent Staromoskovsk boyar surname among the political leaders of the mid-16th century
Foundation of Voronezh State University
The article is devoted to the history of foundation of University in Voronezh. The idea of establishing a regional university appeared since the beginning of the 19th century. This issue had already been discussed by Voronezh society and the educational community. Nevertheless, the implementation of this idea became possible only in 1918 when the Russian teaching staff of former Yuriev (Derpt) University was evacuated from Estonia to Russia. This relocation was not a random event since Voronezh was an administrative, economic and cultural centre of Black Earth Region of Russia. In the early XIX it had been planned that it would be one of the Russian cities where the universities should be open. In 1879 the newspaper Novoe vremya published the article “Voronezh University” where the author raised the question of establishing a University. In 1907–1908 the idea was substantiated by an eminent geographer P. Semenov- Tyan-Shansky. And only in spring 1918, when Yuriev was occupied by Germans and the professors of Yuriev University were looking for a new location, the question was settled at the governmental level. In autumn 1918 the first lecture was delivered and the history of Voronezh University began
Henrik Ibsen’s Catilina and poetics of romantic drama
The article deals with the links of Ibsen’s first drama with Romantic poetics. The
play is interesting in that what it slightly foreshadows and which tradition it inherits.
The path to The Vikings at Helgeland (1857), Ibsen’s first masterpiece in a genre which
the playwright determined as a historical tragedy, began with the Catilina (1850). The
semantic core of the work is not a socio-political conflict relating to the 1st century BC
and capable of causing certain topical allusions, but an internal drama experienced by
the “demonic” hero of Romanticism. The author emphasizes Kierkegaardian echoes
in Catilina, referring to Either/Or (1843) which was familiar to Ibsen in his Grimstad
years as one of his friends of youth witnessed later. The motives of disappointment in
history and unbelief in the universal update, typical of late Romanticists, seem rather
simplistic and somewhat naïve in young Ibsen. But even taking into account artistic
immaturity of the playwright’s firstborn drama, it must be noted that because of the
Romantic influence there is an archetype of a historical character in Catilina, which
will develop later into much more complex images of Jarl Skule and Caesar Julian. At
the same time the play, despite its imperfection, anticipates main themes in Ibsen’s later
works, particularly John Gabriel Borkman (1896)
The article analyses the figure of the heroine Lubov in Kirill Serebrennikov’s film St George’s Day. The main aim is to show how the town of Yuriev and its residents affect the spiritual change of Lubov. The author examines the consistent rejection of the truth of the mind in favour of the truth of faith in Lubov’s life. The initial multilevel conflict between the opera singer and the town is supposed to be laid out in the Russian attitude to the world, which is based on the verge of two binary paradigms – the West and the East – exemplifying in turn the culture of the mind (reason) and the culture of faith (intuition). The provincial Russian town is correlated with the view of St. Petersburg in V. Toporov’s ‘Petersburg text’ due to its particular and distinguishable influence on outer visitors: the town imposes on Lubov its rules, affecting her present life not only materially but most of all spiritually. Besides, the consecutive analyses allow to draw an analogy between Lubov and Dostoevsky’s meek heroines. Like the ‘humiliated and insulted’ women of the author of Crime and punishment, the former opera singer enters the path of suffering and self-sacrifice to completely abandon her own self. The article analyses the figure of the heroine Lubov in Kirill Serebrennikov’s film St George’s Day. Identification of preferred carbohydrate binding modes in xenoreactive antibodies by combining conformational filters and binding site maps
Carbohydrates are notoriously flexible molecules. However, they have an important role in many biochemical processes as specific ligands. Understanding how carbohydrates are recognized by other biological macromolecules (usually proteins) is therefore of considerable scientific value. Interfering with carbohydrate-protein interactions is a potentially useful strategy in combating a range of disease states, as well as being of critical importance in facilitating allo- and xenotransplantation. We have devised an in silico protocol for analyzing carbohydrate-protein interactions. In this study, we have applied the protocol to determine the structures of aGal-terminating carbohydrate antigens in complex with a panel of xenoreactive antibodies. The most important feature of the binding modes is the fixed conformation of the Galß(1,4)Glc/GlcNAc linkage across all of the binding modes. The preferred conformation of the terminal Gala(1,3)Gal linkage varies depending on the antibody binding site topography, although it is possible that some of the antibodies studied recognize more than one Gala(1,3)Gal conformation. The binding modes obtained indicate that each antibody uses distinct mechanisms in recognizing the target antigens. © The Author 2010. Published by Oxford University Press. All rights reserved.
Jahrhunderts. This article analyses the various functions of the Russian imperfect tense in the poetic text. The study is conducted within the framework of linguistic poetics and focuses on the grammatical means of creating the artistic world in Russian poetry of the last third of the 20th - early 21st century. The contexts analysed are taken from the works of O. G. Chukhontsev, O. A. Yuriev, Y. P. Moritz, V. A. Sosnora and M. N. Eisenberg. The author identifies the conditions for the realisation of various special meanings of the imperfect tense in a poetic text, postulates the potential of the studied verb forms in the field of creating chronotope and plot elements in poetry, and demonstrates a special representational function associated with the expansion of the temporal perspective of the artistic world of the poem, endowing the lyrical subject with the characteristics of an »omniscient« narrator.

В. Структура заселення Юр’євської волості давньоруського часу в Пороссі // To Dig or Not To Dig: інвазивні та неінвазивні методи археології. 2019In the article the structure of the settlement of the reconstructed Yuriev volost is described. The author uses the hierarchical cluster analysis procedure in this study. This method allows allocation a of territorial group of settlements on the basis of the proximity of location criteria. In the process of analysis, the method of medium distances is used. The analysis is performed in the QGIS environment. The study, in particular, aims at identifying promising sites for field archaeological research. The necessity of spatial analysis of monuments as an integral part of the preparation of the following research is demonstrated. The formation of a research plan is directly related to the degree of archaeological research in the region. Effective field work should be related to the study of the monuments left by a certain historical and social organism of ancient time.</div
