A performance analysis of graduate school staff at University of Wisconsin-Stout

    No full text
Plan BThe University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) Graduate School serves the campus community with a coordinator position and three permanent support staff positions. After a consultant from Noel-Levitz visited campus and a University wide analysis (ESURC), several recommendations were forwarded to UW-Stout Academic and Student Affairs administrators. One specific recommendation was to evaluate all permanent positions in the Graduate School and match tasks with people to better meet the needs of the graduate community. A performance analysis of these positions was conducted and the results are reported in this study. To accomplish this performance analysis, Graduate School staff, were asked to describe their position tasks and duties in detail. This analysis was documented and recommendations for possible changes to better serve the campus community were forwarded to the UW-Stout Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for review

Needs assessment for administrative office manager associate degree program in the Western Wisconsin Technical College district

    No full text
Plan BThe changing role of the administrative office manager is creating opportunities for individuals in the office occupations with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. In Western Wisconsin, two office management occupations, administrative support supervisors and administrative services managers, are expected to have a growth rate of 14.8% and 12%, respectively, between 1998 and 2008. Currently, there is not an associate degree program in the Western Wisconsin Technical College (WWTC ) district, or the state of Wisconsin, to train administrative office managers. A needs assessment was undertaken to determine if there is a need for an associate degree program for administrative office manager in the Western Wisconsin Technical College district. The needs assessment surveyed a stratified sample of employers from the WWTC district. Five business program advisory committees were selected for the survey. The advisory committees consisted of sixty-two members, representing forty-three business. To ensure the survey reached the employment specialist, a telephone call was made to each advisory committee member to obtain the name of the employment specialist. To avoid the employment specialist receiving duplicate surveys, businesses participating in multiple advisory committees received only one survey document. The needs assessment survey was developed to be used in preparation of a Program Investigation for new programs in the Wisconsin Technical College System. The Program Investigation includes a needs assessment as a requirement for development of new programs. If a need exists for a new program in the WWTC District, the Program Investigation is prepared and submitted the WWTC District Board for approval. Upon approval by the WWTC District Board, the Program Investigation is submitted to the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board for final approval. No new programs can be implemented within the state without approval of the WTCS Board

Practical suggestions on intravenous iloprost in Raynaud's phenomenon and digital ulcer secondary to systemic sclerosis: Systematic literature review and expert consensus

    No full text
BACKGROUND Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune chronic disease characterized by vascular impairment, immune dysfunction and collagen deposition. Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) and digital ulcers (DU) are prominent features of SSc. Intravenous (IV) iloprost (ILO), according to the recently updated EULAR recommendations, is indicated for RP after failure of oral therapy. Moreover, IV ILO could be useful in DU healing. IV ILO is currently available mainly on the European market approved for RP secondary to SSc with 3-5 days infusion cycle. Unfortunately, data published varies regarding regimen (dosage, duration and frequency). Up to now, ILO has been studied in small cohorts of patients and in few randomized controlled trials. METHODS A systematic review of studies on IV ILO in patients with SSc complicated by DU and RP was performed. Insufficient data were available to perform a meta-analysis according to the GRADE system. We performed a three-stage internet-based Delphi consensus exercise. RESULTS Three major indications were identified for IV ILO usage in SSc: RP non-responsive to oral therapy, DU healing, and DU prevention. IV ILO should be administered between 0.5 and 2.0ng/kg/min according to patient tolerability with a frequency depending on the indication. CONCLUSIONS Although these suggestions are supported by this expert group to be used in clinical setting, it will be necessary to formally validate the present suggestions in future clinical trials

Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić might not be the first name you think of when you think of fairy tales, unless, of course, you had a magical Croatian childhood like photographer and researcher Bojan Fürst. Bojan is the Manager of Knowledge Mobilization at the Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Bojan leads the Harris Centre's knowledge brokering team, connecting community needs with the resources available at the university. Recently, Bojan has been working to translate some of the literary fairy tales of Croatian author, poet, and essayist Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, who has been praised as one of Croatia’s best writers for children, and whose work utilizing traditional Slavic names and motifs been compared to Hans Christian Andersen and JRR Tolkien, though her work is not widely known by English-speaking audiences. Today, we’re working to fix that, and delving into the enchanting fairytales of Bojan’s childhood. Recorded 23 January 201

"These four intaglio prints come from a 10-image suite titled "421 Nights." The series created in 1995 with an Artist's Project Grant from the NC Arts Council features night-time scenes from Highway 421, starting in the North Carolina mountains and ending at Fort Fisher. These sandblast mezzotint prints were created by texturing copper and glass plates to produce pitted surfaces then selectively smoothing these rough surfaces with hand tools to develop differences in shape and tone. The various plates were then inked, wiped and printed by hand on an intaglio press." Accompanying sign by author Artist is UNCW faculty member in Art. Original

Comparing levels of organizational learning maturity of colleges and universities participating in traditional and non-traditional (Academic Quality Improvement Project) accreditation processes

    No full text
Plan BBusiness and industry has successfully embraced the philosophy of organizational learning as tool to achieve its goals and strategic priorities. The purpose of this study is to compare the levels of organizational learning maturity of colleges and universities participating in traditional and non-traditional accreditation processes. A survey instrument was developed to quantify managerial practices at colleges and universities relative to the integral components of a learning organization. The surveys obtained the subjective opinions of faculty at twelve colleges and universities. Six of the institutions are accredited traditionally, while the remaining six are accredited using North Central Association’s alternative accreditation process, AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Project). Learning Organizations in Higher Education The importance of this study is based on the awareness that higher education is facing increasing accountability standards. Colleges and universities must take a proactive approach to remain competitive. The research focus was to determine if institutions pursing the AQIP accreditation process possessed a higher organizational learning maturity score than those utilizing the traditional accreditation process
