Carbolithiation of S-Alkenyl-N-aryl Thiocarbamates: Carbanion Arylation in a Connective Route to Tertiary Thiols

    No full text
S-Alkenyl-N-arylthiocarbamates are formed from allylic alcohols by sigmatropic rearrangement and isomerization or C═C bond cleavage. They undergo carbolithiation with a range of organolithium reagents, generating benzyllithium intermediates in a stereospecific manner which may undergo N to C aryl migration to yield thiocarbamates with tertiary substituents. A simple base-promoted alcoholysis reveals a series of hindered tertiary thiols with branched carbon skeletons

Professionalism, golf coaching and a master of science degree

A distinction can be made between 'professionalisation', which is concerned with occupational status and standing, and 'professionalism,' which refers to matters of quality and standards of practice (especially specialized knowledge, ethics and altruism). The purpose of this stimulus article is to present key features of contemporary medical professionalism as a basis for critically reflecting on discourse associated with Tiger Woods' current coach, Sean Foley. It is suggested that that provision of a Master of Science degree in golf teaching/coaching would facilitate the development of 'professionalism' in golf coaches

Correlates of physical activity in people living with psychotic illness

    No full text
Objective: In the light of the high prevalence of physical comorbidities in people with psychotic illness, there is a need to explore modifiable risk factors that may contribute to this disease burden. The benefits of physical activity to both physical and mental health have been well established. We aimed to examine the prevalence and correlates of physical activity in a national sample of adults living with psychotic illness. Methods: Physical activity was assessed in 1801 people using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Participants were dichotomised into low and moderate–high physical activity groups and associations between physical activity and a range of sociodemographic, clinical and physical comorbidity variables were examined using logistic regression. Results: More than half the participants were categorised in the moderate–high physical activity group with nearly half of the sample engaged in physical activity every day. There were significant associations between low physical activity and older age, unemployment, educational non-participation, antipsychotic medication use, social dysfunction, self-reported loneliness and obesity. However, there was no significant association between physical activity and sex, psychosis type, illness duration, physical comorbidity or negative symptoms. Conclusion: The findings from this study may inform future interventions designed to increase physical activity in people with psychotic illness.S. Suetani, A. Waterreus, V. Morgan, D. L. Foley, C. Algoritmo generador de foley mono a partir de texto

    No full text
In the present work of degree, it is intended to expose the process carried out to develop a mono Foley generator algorithm from text, with the use of algorithms belonging to deep learning. The WCGAN-GP algorithm is then used, initially establishing a training data set, in which Foley audios recorded at the University of San Buenaventura of Bogotá are found. After obtaining the data set, the algorithm is developed and trained in order to generate Foley mono audios of two categories, each with three variations and submit them to a listening test process, from which a subjective test is obtained from students of Sound Engineering at the university. It can be finally determined that the performance of the algorithm during the training stage was as expected and additionally, that as the sample rate of the data used for the training stage increases, the generated audios obtained a better subjective score due to their similarity with the reference categories.PregradoIngeniero de Sonid

The evaluation of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale: depressed and positive affect in cancer patients and healthy reference subjects

    No full text
This study examined the reliability and validity of a two-factor structure of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale. The study was conducted in a large group of cancer patients (n = 475) and a matched reference group (n = 255). Both groups filled in a questionnaire at two points in time: patients 3 and 15 months after diagnosis. Factor analysis confirmed our hypothesis that the 16 negatively and four positively formulated items measure two relatively independent factors, i.e. Depressed Affect and Positive Affect. Therefore, these items should not be combined into an overall sumscore. In both groups, Depressed Affect proved to be a reliable and valid measure of depressive symptomatology, as indicated by its good internal consistency, its strong correlations with other measures of psychological distress and neuroticism, and its effectiveness in discriminating patients from the reference group on depressive symptomatology. In contrast, the validity of the Positive Affect factor could not be confirmed, since it was only weakly related to other measures of psychological distress and extraversion. Depressed and Positive Affect were about equally related to self-esteem, life satisfaction, and quality of life. These findings support the use of a sumscore based on the 16 negatively formulated CES-D items as a more valid measure of depressive symptomatology, in cancer patients and in healthy individuals from the general population
