    Mandibular Osteitis Fibrosa Cystica as First Sign of Vitamin D Deficiency

    Introduction. Brown tumors of hyperparathyroidism are locally destructive bone lesions. They are the late clinical consequence of the disease. They can occur in primary, secondary, and rarely tertiary forms. They affect usually long bones and less frequently those of the maxilla. Case Report. Our 45-year-old female patient presented with a mandibular tumor next to the first right lower molar. At first, we have chosen tooth extraction and tumor excision. When the histological report showed the giant cell tumor we suspected a metabolic bone disorder. Biochemical tests screened hyperparathyroidism and severe vitamin D deficiency, and parathyroid scintiscan revealed parathyroid adenoma. Discussion. The association of hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D deficiency leads to diagnostic uncertainty. First, secondary hyperparathyroidism can be due vitamin D deficiency. Second, data available show that vitamin D deficiency is more prevalent in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism than in general population. Hyperparathyroidism management is based on correct and precise diagnosis. Furthermore, the resolution of brown tumors depends on the cure of hyperparathyroidism. In fact, bone lesions should regress after biological tests’ normalization. Conclusion. Clinicians should be aware of such rare and complicated presentation. They must consider the diagnosis of the brown tumor to avoid extensive surgical excision and teeth extractions

    Effect of agriculture practices and stocking rates on performances of Barbarine ewes grazing on wheat stubble in Tunisian semi-arid conditions.

    The aim of this work was to study the effect of agricultural practices (Conventional or conservation agriculture: Conv. A and CA respectively) and the stocking rate on live weight variation of Barbarine ewes in semi-arid conditions. The trial was carried out in the experimental station of INRAT (Region of Zaghouan, 2014) in two plots of bread wheat stubble, cultivated respectively according to Conv. A and CA conditions. Forty Barbarine breed ewes (Average initial weight: 43 kg) were divided into 8 homogeneous groups of 5 animals each (4 groups for each agricultural system: Conv. A and CA). Two stocking rates of 15 and 30 ewes/ha (SR15 and SR30) were used in each agricultural practice. Animals grazed during a period of 60 days. In the second month, ewes received a supplementation composed of 250 g of concentrate. Ewes were weighted every 10 days. Live weight (LW) and daily live weight gain (DLWG) were determined. Results showed that during the first grazing period, whatever the stocking rates, ewes lost body weight (P<0.0001) both in Conv.A and CA, resulting in negative DLWGs (-265 and -257g/d respectively for Conv.A and CA). Thereafter, animals registered a positive DLWG, which was maintained until the end of the experiment. For all the weighing times, we generally didn’t note differences in LW and DLWG between the 2 agricultural practices. In conventional agriculture and for all the weighing times, no differences in LW between SR15 and SR30 group were noted. The same trend was observed in DLWG. In conservation agriculture conditions, whatever the weighing time, no differences between the 2 stocking rates were observed in LW and DLWG, except in the fourth period when the DLWG was higher for SR15 (P<0.05) than SR30 group (104 and 15 g/d respectively). In order to initiate a stubble management tool, we established a regression between biomass and grazing duration allowing estimating the remaining biomass on soil (R2: 0.78 and 0.68, for Conv.A and CA respectively). It was concluded that no major differences in performances were observed between the 2 agricultural practices and the 2 stocking rates. Also, in the current studied systems, biomass seemed to be not limiting and ewes conserved similarly their body live weight

    Wheat Stubble from Conventional or Conservation Agriculture Grazed by Ewes: Biomass Dynamics and Animal Performances

    This experiment aimed to determine the effect of stocking rates and cropping systems (conventional agriculture; Conv A vs. conservation agriculture; Cons A) on biomass dynamics and animal performance parameters of ewes grazing on wheat stubble. Forty Barbarine ewes were divided into eight homogeneous groups and allotted equally to the two cropping systems. Two stocking rates of 15 (SR15) and 30 (SR30) ewes/ha were tested for each cropping system, during a period of 60 d. Stubble biomass and BW variations were monitored at periodic intervals. Blood was sampled thrice during the study period at 15 d intervals. Results showed that the stubble biomass exhibited a gradual decrease (P<0.0001) with the progression of the duration by margins of -85.6 and -81.3% on DM basis, respectively, in Conv A and Cons A, as compared to initial biomass. Further, the biomass was also significantly (P=0.03) affected by the cropping system with a higher value in Conv A than Cons A. The variations in biomass chemical composition showed that the CP content decreased (P<0.0001) with advancing of period, while that of ADF increased (P<0.0001). Additionally, there was a significant effect (P=0.0002) of cropping mode evident in the nutritional composition. Overall, the animals maintained their average BW between the beginning (47.16 kg) and the end (47.36 kg) of the experiment. The blood parameters measured were well within the ranges of normal values for sheep. The stocking rates did not show impact on any of the parameters, with the values being generally similar between stocking rates and cropping systems. It is concluded that while the stocking rate had no effect on the measured variables, conservation agricultural system seemed to keep a higher proportion of residual biomass at the end of the experiment as compared to conventional agriculture

    Effect of stocking rate on biomass variation and lamb performances for barley stubble in Tunisian semi arid region and under conservation agriculture conditions

    The integration of livestock in the practices of conservation agriculture (CA) was assessed in Tunisian semi-arid conditions. Forty five Barbarine lambs (aged 220 ± 10 days, average body weight 20 ± 2.5 kg) were used in a performance trial, carried out in the experimental station of INRAT. During the experiment, lambs were grazing on a plot of barley stubble cultivated according to CA was divided into 6 fenced equal subplots and to each subplot was assigned a stocking rate of animals (15 and 30 lambs per hectare, SR15 and SR30 respectively). The biomass of stubble and its botanical composition were estimated 2 times, using quadrats sampling technique. Live weight was determined 3 times after the start of the experiment (three 15-days successive periods) to calculate live weight gain (LWG) and daily live weight gain (DLWG). The amount of biomass varied (P <0.05) from 2204 to 2067 kg DM / ha for SR15 plots and from 2404 to 1826.5 kg DM/ha for SR30 ones. This decrease was higher with SR30 (P<0.05). Heads proportion decreased first, then leaves and finally stems. Biomass chemical composition declined with sampling period. During the first grazing period, lambs assigned to both treatments lost LW (P<0.001), mainly SR30 lambs as compared to SR15 (P<0.05, -610 and -110 g, respectively). The same trend was observed in DLWG (P<0.05). In the second period, the two groups exhibited similar LWG (about 2 kg) and DLWG (about 171 g/d). In the third period, SR15 lambs maintained their body weight, while SR30 group lost (P<0.001) about 400 g comparatively to the second period. It was concluded that under the studied feeding system, stubble grazing without supplementation allowed Barbarine sheep to maintain body conditions

    This study investigates the impact of season and sex variations on the total lipid contents and fatty acid composition of Scomber scombrus fillets from the Middle East Coast of Tunisia in order to dertermine the most favorable periods for consumption, and to see if the nutritional quality of the meat depends on the sex of the animal. The effect of fishing season induced significant changes in the lipid profile, and the highest values for total lipids were obtained in the spring for females with 13.2% and for males with 18.9%. The highest values for proteins were obtained in the summer for females with 22.0% and for males with 21.8%. Protein content variations were not significant (p > 0.05). The n-3/n-6 ratio showed a significant level, indicating a tendency toward n-3 fatty acid accumulation in mackerel fillets mainly represented by DHA, whose values were high during the study period for both sexes, except in autumun, which is the period of mackerel gonad maturation, when DHA decreased significantly (p 0.05). The Atherogenicity index (AI) and Thrombogenicity index (TI) were calculated. In our study the AI index was comprised between 0.3 and 0.6 for males and between 0.4 and 0.5 for females. The TI index values ranged from 0.6 to 0.8 for males, and was about 0.6 for females.Este estudio investiga el impacto de las variaciones estacionales y sexuales sobre el contenido total de lípidos y la composición de ácidos grasos de filetes de caballa, Scomber scombrus, de la Costa Este Tunecina, con objeto de determinar los períodos más favorables para su consumo y para ver si la calidad nutricional de la carne depende del sexo del animal.     Measurements of azimuthal anisotropy of nonprompt D0^0 mesons in PbPb collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02 TeV

    Measurements of the elliptic (2_2) and triangular (3_3) azimuthal anisotropy coefficients are presented for D0_0 mesons produced in b hadron decays (nonprompt D0_0 mesons) in lead-lead collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02 TeV. The results are compared with previously published charm meson anisotropies measured using prompt D0_0 mesons. The data were collected with the CMS detector in 2018 with an integrated luminosity of 0.58 nb1^{-1}. Azimuthal anisotropy is sensitive to the interactions of quarks with the hot and dense medium created in heavy ion collisions. Comparing results for prompt and nonprompt D0^0 mesons can assist in understanding the mass dependence of these interactions. The nonprompt results show lower magnitudes of 2_2 and 3_3 and weaker dependences on the meson transverse momentum and collision centrality than those found for prompt D0_0 mesons. The results are in agreement with theoretical predictions that include a mass dependence in the interactions of quarks with the medium
