About the new IconologyThe Geology of Images: Looking at Mantegna's Work

Drell-Yan lepton-pair production: QT resummation at N3LL accuracy and fiducial cross sections at N3LO
We present high-accuracy QCD predictions for the transverse-momentum (qT) distribution and fiducial cross sections of Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced in hadronic collisions. At small values of qT we resum to all perturbative orders the logarithmically enhanced contributions up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N3LL) accuracy, including all the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) [i.e., O(αS3)] terms. Our resummed calculation has been implemented in the public numerical program DYTurbo, which produces fast and precise predictions with the full dependence on the final-state lepton kinematics. We consistently combine our resummed results with the known O(αS3) fixed-order predictions at large values of qT thus also obtaining full N3LO accuracy for fiducial cross sections. We show numerical results at LHC energies discussing the reduction of the perturbative uncertainty with respect to lower-order calculations
Vector-boson production at hadron colliders: hard-collinear coefficients at the NNLO
We consider QCD radiative corrections to vector-boson production in hadron collisions. We present the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) result of the hard-collinear coefficient function for the all-order resummation of logarithmically enhanced contributions at small transverse momenta. The coefficient function controls NNLO contributions in resummed calculations at full next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. The same coefficient function is used in applications of the subtraction method to perform fully exclusive perturbative calculations up to NNLO

Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales; Argentina. The Sierra de Valle Fertil is located in the west of Argentina (San Juan province). It is crossed by the National Road 150, that has 40 km in length including six bidirectional road tunnels with a total length of 2000 meters. The geological formations are various Carbonic Permian (Paganzo Basin) and Triassic (Ischigualasto-Villa Union Basin) sedimentary rocks, in an area adjacent to the Ischigualasto Natural Park. The Sierra has been formed by the reactivation of the basin during the formation of the Andes (Pliocene-Pleistocene) with a thick-skinned tectonics. The trace of the route follows a creek that cuts anticlinal folds. The first three tunnels are developed through soft sandstones with siltstones and shales (middle Triassic). The two following slightly
cemented sandstones and conglomerates (Lower Triassic) and the last is in rigid greywackes (upper Carbonic). The support provided by the design was estimated by using RMR and Q method. During construction geological surveys were conducted on the front as it was excavated, and expected support was adjusted according to them. Different failure modes observed in rigid and soft rock are analyzed together with the solutions provided during construction. The tunnels excavated in stiff rocks were less demanding than those provided for in the design. Instead, the tunnels in soft rocks required more supports than those stipulated in the design.Fil: Aceituno Cieri, Paula. Dirección Nacional de Vialidad. San Juan; Argentina.Fil: Martino, Roberto D. Threshold resummation at N3LL accuracy and soft-virtual cross sections at N3LO
We consider QCD radiative corrections to the production of colorless high-mass systems in hadron collisions. We show that the recent computation of the soft-virtual corrections to Higgs boson production at N3LO [1] together with the universality structure of soft-gluon emission can be exploited to extract the general expression of the hard-virtual coefficient that contributes to threshold resummation at N3LL accuracy. The hard-virtual coefficient is directly related to the process-dependent virtual amplitude through a universal (process-independent) factorization formula that we explicitly evaluate up to three-loop order. As an application, we present the explicit expression of the soft-virtual N3LO corrections for the production of an arbitrary colorless system. In the case of the Drell-Yan process, we confirm the recent result of Ref. [2]

The Fate of Patients Treated in Emergency for True-Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms After 30 Days and 6 Months: Is There a Benefit from Endovascular Repair?
Background. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has been claimed to decrease periprocedural mortality for treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms with suspected rupture (rAAA). However the benefit of EVAR in true clinical emergencies (plain ruptured AAA) is still uncertain. This study aimed to analyze immediate and mid term outcomes of true rAAA treated in emergency.
Methods. All patients treated for rAAA from 2006 to 2010 were reviewed. Our policy is to perform an immediate computed tomography (CT) in emergency room (ER) for all patients with suspected rAAA. Only patients with evident aneurysm rupture on imaging were selected for this study. EVAR feasibility was left to the discretion of the operative specialized team available 24hours/day. Stability of EVAR repair was assessed with pre-discharge CT-scan.
Results. A total of 66 patients with plain rAAA were treated in emergency: 23 underwent EVAR and 43 open surgery. At baseline there was an equal distribution of physiologic characteristics and comorbidities with the exception of age, older in the EVAR group. Intraoperative mortality was 0% in EVAR and 9.3% (4/43) in the open group (p=0.29) while 30-day mortality rates were 21.7%(5/23) vs 34.8%(15/43), respectively (p=0.39). Life table estimates at 6 and 15 months showed survival rates of 54% and 50% after open surgery and of 65% and 58% after EVAR (p=0.19). Endoleak presence was detected on CT in 6 EVAR patients who survived until discharge (none of these required immediate treatment due to small size).
Conclusions. Despite the use of EVAR can decrease intraoperative mortality in emergencies for plain rAAA, mortality can involve more than one fifth of these patients at 30-day and one third at six months. The frequent detection of endoleak (more than one fourth of rAAA) at discharge can raise the question whether EVAR might be used as an effective bridge solution for hemodynamic stabilization to be re-evaluated in a later stage.

Universality of transverse-momentum resummation and hard factors at the NNLO
We consider QCD radiative corrections to the production of colorless high-mass systems in hadron collisions. The logarithmically-enhanced contributions at small transverse momentum are treated to all perturbative orders by a universal resummation formula that depends on a single process-dependent hard factor. We show that the hard factor is directly related to the all-order virtual amplitude of the corresponding partonic process. The direct relation is universal (process-independent), and it is expressed by an all-order factorization formula that we explicitly evaluate up to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. Once the NNLO scattering amplitude is available, the corresponding hard factor is directly determined: it controls NNLO contributions in resummed calculations at full next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, and it can be used in applications of the qT subtraction formalism to perform fully-exclusive perturbative calculations up to NNLO. The universality structure of the hard factor and its explicit NNLO form are also extended to the related formalism of threshold resummation
