Explorar a hibridização jornalístico-publicitária do gênero; 2. Abstract : This research focuses on the social practices that underpin the "advertorial", a journalistic genre colonized by advertising practice. In this work, I analyzed six advertorials of Johnnie Walker?s company, that were published in the following magazines:Superinteressante, VocêS/A, VIP and Playboy. The main objective is to explain genre relations to social advertising and journalistic practices that are constituted on a campaign of the company. To do this, I followthis specific objectives: 1. Explore the journalistic/advertising hybridization of the genre; 2. Shed light on the ways of identity construction in the border between journalism and advertising in the context of late modernity; 3. Interpret the forms that intertextuality takes on the formation and naturalization of discourses operated in the genres. I use as reference the theoretical approaches of Critical Genre Analysis (CGA), which can be understood as an approximation of two areas, Genre Analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), following Bakhtin?s perspective. In myanalysis I investigate the Brazilian legislation aboutalcoholic beverages advertising and observe that, since companies areprohibited from usingdirect forms of inducing the consumer, they choose to create advertising campaigns that disguise the situation, exploring issues related to personal success, in the case of the campaign chosen for that analysis. I also observeas a general characteristic of the corpus that the menselectedfor the advertisement are supposedly successful businessmen, toassociate an alleged positivebrandimage, reinforcing the usualrepresentation ofconsumerbeverageand the socialclass towhich theybelong. This attitudeultimately convertsthe selected individualinto a brand, making theman object of worship, and, therefore, of consumption. Another aspect was the regularity in the narratives of the life history of the subjects, demonstrating the need to link the brand to an alleged successful trajectory, so that the individualscould serve as models for others. The identity of the represented subjects is mainly constructed through journalistic profiles that describe their careers, which is marked by alleged difficulties that arise as certain "steps". This structure shows the need to reaffirm the identification with the brand and the company slogan. Thus, the story shows a representation of success that fits the parameters of the neoliberal discourse: individualism, appreciation of entrepreneurship and businesses activities, of science primarily focused on technology and aneco-alarmist point of view. Finally, I observe that naturalization of a religious and ecological discourse occur to legitimize the discourse of corporate entrepreneurship
Genre systems and recontextualization of science in electronic media
In this paper I explore the process of science popularization from the vantage point of two concepts: genre system and recontextualization. I associate the socio-rhetorical and systemic-functional concepts of discourse genre with the socio-historical perspective (as credited to Mikhail Bakhtin and other authors along the same line) to define genre as a recurring discursive event in specific human activity spheres. I focus on the discursive process implemented by the midiatization of scientific research in science popularization publications divulged on the internet. The transposition of an ideational content from science (the new research, its methodology and results) into the electronic media occurs in a recontextualization movement that relocates (parts of or whole) texts from one sphere of human activity to another, providing visibility to the continuous flux between genres of the same system for science production and maintenance
There is an increasing interest on the analysis of discursive practices in specific contexts, involving recurrent social activities and roles. The concept of discursive genre has emerged as a tool for theorizing and explaining on how language functions in order to create and to re-contextualize social interactions. The objective of the present article is to present an overview of the research work around the concept of genre in recent literature, especially relating to the delimitation, analysis and interpretation of language as genre under a critical perspective. Contributions to the language pedagogy are pointed out with reference to Genre Analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis, Systemic-Functional Linguistics, and Socio-Discursive Interactionism
A construção social do gênero resenha acadêmica
The concept of genre as postulated by Bakthin (1986) can be defined as a recurrent communicative event in which a given human activity, encompassing social roles and social relations, is mediated bylanguage. In this sense, genre presupposes an interconnection between textual (language) and contextual features (the set of soail relations involved). From a social perspective of genre (Ivanic, 1998:77), the present paper aims at discussing book reviews in English from the standpoint of three book review editors working in journals in the three disciplines of linguistics, chemistry, and economics. The focus of attention is the discursive practices in the North-American university context and how they respond to cultural factors that determine who should or can write what to whom. The interviews with the three book review editors reveal the hegemonic character of academic interactions and how it is construed and maintained through discourse and academic literacies
This paper presents a Critical Genre Analysis (advocated in MEURER, 2002; BHATIA, 2004; MOTTA-ROTH, 2005, based on the theoretical principles of BAKHTIN, 1986; SWALES, 2004; CHOULIARAKI; FAIRCLOUGH, 1999; HALLIDAY, 2004) of science popularization (PC) news, focusing on the reported speech that popularizes science. Thirty exemplars of PC news from the BBC News and Scientific American sites were analyzed. Through the mobilization of different enunciative standpoints (researcher, colleague / institutions, government, public and the journalist him / herself), the media performs three discursive functions: inform about new findings, explain scientific principles / concepts, and clarify the relevance of the research for the collectivity.
