Image-guided transoral biopsy in a Grisel’s syndrome. Case report
Grisel’s syndrome is a disease characterized by an atlanto–axial rotatory subluxation following acute
inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The syndrome has a good prognosis as it usually heals with
antibiotics, despite the delayed serious complications that have been reported. When neuroradiological
investigation does not allow an accurate differential diagnosis between a tumor and osteomyelitis, an
image-guided transoral biopsy is a safe, fast, minimally invasive, as well as effective, procedure
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Anti-inflammatory steroid use in impacted third molar surgery: a systematic review
Oral surgery procedures involve traumatization of mucosal and bony tissues, and lengthy interventions can lead to inflammatory post-operative sequelae. In the bony tissues in particular, the inflammatory processes can affect healing. Modern drug therapies provide valid support for lowering the risk of occurrence of post-operative inflammatory signs. The two main types of agents used are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and/or corticosteroids, which act on two different molecular pathways in the inflammatiory process. The aim of this systematic review is to examine the different corticosteroids used in oral surgery procedures, their indications for use, and their route of administration, to provide the clinician with a useful scheme for correct pharmacological management of post-operative inflammation. To identify studies eligible for inclusion in this systematic review, we performed a literature search up to April 2017 of the electronic databases, considering published papers from 2007 to 2017. The search terms included steroids, third molar, oral surgery, RCT [randomized controlled trial], human, and clinical trial. Only articles in English language were considered
Hand-carried ultrasonography instrumentation in the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint dysfunction
Internal derangement (ID) in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is defined as a mechanical problem of the joint that interferes with its function. It is attributed to an abnormal interaction among the articular disc, condyle, and joint eminence. The aim of this study is to evaluate diagnostic efficacy of non-invasive hand-carried ultrasonography instrumentation (US) to provide high-level images for a correct diagnosis of ID. Twenty-eight ID patients, 15 female and 13 males, were examined both clinically and by MRI images in order to achieve a diagnosis of ID (using Helkimo index). Then, they were submitted to US examination with a 12 MHz transducer by using hand-carried instrumentation by a clinician that was blind to their diagnosis and clinical data. TMJ US examination was performed with the mouth closed and mouth open, with proper technique. Each position was then evaluated with two different orientations of the transducer. US showed acceptable results in identifying bone structures. Lower values of diagnostic efficacy were obtained for disc position during joint movements with respect to MRI images. MRI still represents the gold standard for the identification of joint structures. If not corroborated by clinical and anamnestic data, the diagnostic efficacy of US in identifying the position of the disc during opening and closing jaw movements appears limited than compared to MRI
Rare case of inverted impacted canine in infra-orbitary position requiring surgical therapy on
Objectives. Inclusion of maxillary canine is a common anomaly of timing eruption. The tooth is commonly found in a palatal position, and the frequency rate is higher in female than in male patients. In the frame of this type of anomaly, the inverted position of the impacted tooth is very rare, and unfortunately, the only possible treatment is the surgical extraction. Case report. Here a case of a completed and root formed impacted canine in an inverted position is reported together with the surgical intervention. A 14-years-old patient under orthodontic treatment presented a delay in the canine eruption. The orthopantomogram revealed the canine was retained in an inverted position with the crown under the orbit floor. After an accurate radiological study of the involved anatomic area by means of computed tomography, the surgical extraction under general anesthesia was performed and the tooth was removed. Even though the tooth was nearby the orbital floor and the nasal cavity the intervention did not require the use of operative microscope. Conclusions. Tooth retention is a frequent eruption anomaly that the dental practitioners may face in their professional life. An accurate clinical and radiological diagnosis, based on tridimensional exams such as computed tomography is fundamental for a correct treatment planning, either involving the combined intervention of surgical and orthodontic procedures or the surgical removal alone

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
