"Our future depends on innovation”. With this affirmation the European Commission renews the need to achieve the objectives defined by the Lisbon European Council in 2000 that set an ambitious strategic objective for Europe to reach by 2010. This book aims to contribute to enhancing the understanding of a few essential aspects of the innovation process. It is the result of the analysis and research of a group of researchers who studied the psychosocial innovation process on an international level, starting from the individual creative process through to its social diffusion, analyzing antecedent factors, types of innovation, implementation characteristics, and its main effects upon work and organizations. It also attests both the different multiple characteristics of the innovative process and the main consequences of the actual work transformations in the lives of individuals and organizations. This chapter describes a research that has two main aims: 1) Define a theoretical integrate model of Psychological acceptance of information technology that like considerate three theoretical contribute present in literature according to different theoretical perspective: TAM (Davis 1989), TTF (Goodhue and Thomson, 1995), TIST (Lippert, 2002). 2) Investigate the impact of use of new technology on individual working outcomes with reference to Leplat and Cuny’s scheme of analysis of work: perceived performance, perceived valorisation of working competence, perceived general satisfaction. Research’s participants are 480 employees-dependants of height productive organizations of different public and private services. Resulta show that the Integrated research model is resulted valid in most part accounting for a consistent percentage variance (R2=.42) of principal dependant variable (intention of future use of technology in own work). Intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factor are important to arise elevated acceptance level in potential user: perceived relative advantage and functionality ergonomics factor are both important to generate high level of acceptance. Also, perceived utility and organizational support are import to enhance level perceived working outcomes as performance working, valorisation of working competences and general working satisfaction

Employee safety motivation: Perspectives and measures on the basis of the self-determination theory

    No full text
Background: There is a growing body of literature demonstrating that employee's safety behaviour is largely influenced by their motivation to work safely. The Self-Determination Theory, which proposes a multidimensional conceptualization of motivation, is now established in various domains of the academic field (Healthcare, Education, Psychopathology, Organizations, Sport etc.). However, there are few publications concerning its use in the analysis of motivation in a safety context, where it constitutes a new topic of study. Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and validate the Italian version of the Self-Determined Safety Motivation Scale and analyze the psychometric properties of the scale in terms of construct validity. Methods: The research involved 387 Italian employees from three companies, who occupied medium-low levels in the organizational hierarchy. Results: A good level of psychometric properties was shown. Conclusion: The Italian version of the Self-Determined Safety Motivation Scale is a reliable and valid instrument to assess safety motivation

Coping in the Face of Verbal Aggression: The Role of Self-Efficacy in Protecting Healthcare Professionals’ Well-Being and Job Satisfaction

Verbal aggression toward healthcare professionals, primarily from patients and visitors, is widespread and negatively affects employee well-being and patient care quality. This study, comprising two samples, investigates the relationship between user-initiated verbal aggression and job satisfaction, with a focus on psychological processes (i.e., cynicism and mental distance) and personal boundary conditions (i.e., self-efficacy). Study 1 (pandemic period) explored cynicism and work-related self-efficacy, while Study 2 (post-pandemic) replicated and expanded these findings, incorporating mental distance, self-efficacy in managing negative emotions, and workload. Participants included 201 (Study 1) and 1442 (Study 2) healthcare professionals from one and eight Italian healthcare facilities, respectively, who completed online questionnaires. In both cross-sectional studies, verbal aggression was positively associated with psychological withdrawal responses, which, in turn, was negatively related to job satisfaction. However, high self-efficacy in managing negative emotions (rather than work-related self-efficacy) buffered these effects. In Study 2, the negative impact of verbal aggression on job satisfaction, mediated by mental distance, was most pronounced among those with low self-efficacy in managing negative emotions and a high workload. Conversely, individuals with high self-efficacy maintained their job satisfaction and did not exhibit psychological withdrawal, even under high workload conditions

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

A diagnostic tool to evaluate the proactivity levels of risk-Reporting activities by the workforce

Prevention of occupational injuries is an important task of Human Resource Management. Empiric research showed that risk perception, safety communication and worker's participation in safety programs may have a relevant role in reducing accident and injury occurrence - see for example (Conchie, 2013). These considerations lead us to this study to propose a new methodology which consists in an index aimed to assess the proactivity of worker participation in safety management systems. The innovation consists in defining a diagnostic measurement model to assess the degree of workforce proactivity, considering a specific kind of participatory contribute by workers for safety promotion in the workplace, like the spontaneous risk-reporting initiatives. The measurement tool has been defined and tested by an interdisciplinary team composed of four university researchers (human factor experts) and two site safety managers of a chemical site which is chosen with the purpose to apply for the first time the new tool. Preliminary results show that different levels of proactivity were adopted and that the highest levels of proactivity are relatively less frequent. The tool offers relevant diagnostic information for the industrial organizations which aim to achieve higher level of proactivity in risk management, offering practical indications for managerial interventions focused on stimulating and improving appropriate participation by the workforce. © Copyright 2014, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l
