Ortalama efektif allel sayısı (Ne) 3.172, gözlenen ortalama heterozigoti (Ho) 0.548, beklenen ortalama heterozigoti (He) 0.680, ortalama kendileme katsayısı (Fit) 0.187, ortalama toplam genetik varyans (Fst) 0.593, ortalama polimorfik bilgi içeriği (PIC) 0.664 ve ortalama Shannon bilgi indeksi (I) 1.251 olarak hesaplanmıştır. The objectives of this study were to determine some agricultural and technological traits of 45 F1 hybrid combinations obtained by line (5) × tester (9) method and their parents at the experimental field of Field Crops Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and investigate genetic diversity among them by using SSR method. The field experiment including 45 F1 hybrid and their 14 parents was established based on randomized complete plot design with three replications. Fifteen agronomic and technological characters such as days to emergence, days to flowering, days to maturity, plant height, branch number, head number, head diameter, number of seeds per head, 1000 seed weight, seed yield, hull ratio, oil content, oil yield, linoleic and oleic acid content were investigated in the study. Furthermore, the general combination abilities for the parents (line and tester) and the special combination abilities, heterosis and heterobeltiosis for the hybrids were calculated and those values were used to speculate promising lines for the future breeding projects. Based on the results of the study, genotypes with high seed yield and oil content in both F1 and F2 generations were BA12, BA18, BA24, EC4, EC5, EC6, EC11, EC18, EC20 and EC21 hybrids. The promising genotypes will be grown in the next generations together with the other hybrid genotypes in order to ensure sufficient variation, and the selection will be started in the later generations such as F3 and F4. Six out of 10 SSR markers used in the study to determine genetic diversity were found polymorphic. It was calculated as the total number of alleles 28, average effective alleles (Ne) 3.172, observed mean heterozygous (Ho) 0.548, expected mean heterozygous (He) 0.680, mean coefficient of self-realization (Fit) 0.187, mean total genetic variance (Fst) 0.593, mean polymorphic information content (PIC) 0.664 and mean Shannon information index (I) 1.251 within polymorphic 6 SSR markers. Considering the average PIC values of the markers, it is seen that they can be used in future molecular studies for safflower. In addition, in future breeding studies, promising lines can be created by crossbreeding among genotypes that are genetically distant from each other in order to provide genetic variation

The development of winter-tolerant safflower genotypes is crucial for the improvement of global safflower agriculture. The aim of the present study was to determine the cold tolerance abilities and some agricultural characteristics of advanced safflower genotypes. For this purpose, 10 advanced safflower genotypes were used in four different locations. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. Winter survival and agricultural characteristics were significantly affected by growing season, location and genotype. Winter survival varies between 86.43% and 93.91% among the genotypes which is promising for winter sowing. As the average of 2 years, the highest oil content (36.25%) was observed in genotype EC21 and it was followed by genotypes EC11 (35.51%) and EC20 (35.49%). As with the seed yield, the high winter survival of genotypes with high oil content is highly promising in terms of winter sowing. Safflower should be grown in winter with mild temperature regions for high seed yield and sustainable safflower production. Therefore, this study focused on winter-tolerant genotypes that are superior one in terms of seed yield and oil content

Safflower is an annual oilseed crop which has healthy edible oil containing high amount of unsaturated fatty acids in the world. In this study, we investigated safflower registered cultivars of Turkey (4), genotypes retrieved from USDA (10) and their hybrids (45) for genetic variation using 10 simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci. Genetic diversity calculated registered cultivars, genotypes and hybrids were as follows: mean number of alleles (4.67), expected heterozygosity (0.680), average effective number of alleles (3.172), and polymorphism information content (0.664). The dendrogram analysis revealed at least four possible major clusters in the parents and hybrids. High level of genetic diversity explained between the populations and Fst calculate (0.593) suggested that the clusters were differentiated to each other. Registered safflower cultivars of Turkey were distributed across all four clusters and the accessions from USA were defined in most of the clusters. The dendrogram based method analysis revealed two major clusters which corresponded to spiny and spineless safflower genotypes. It was suggested that the studied 6 SSR markers could be utilized for safflower breeding studies based on molecular analysis © 2022, Genetika. All Rights Reserved. The authors thank Dr. Raziye IŞIK and Dr. Nihan ŞAHİN for their contributions in laboratory techniques. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of different sowing dates on some yield and quality traits of safflower varieties. The field experiments of this study were carried out in spring season of 2017 and 2018 under ecological conditions of the Suleymanpasa and Malkara districts of Tekirdag. Plots of the two safflower varieties (Dincer 5-18-1 and Balci) and four sowing dates (20 February, 5 March, 20 March and 5 April) were arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications in both locations. Results showed that variation in sowing dates had a significant effect on seed yield, oil content and oil yield of safflower variety. While the highest seed yield was obtained from the 1st (20 February) sowing date (1442.67 kg ha-1), the lowest seed yield was obtained from the 4th (5 April) sowing date (961.13 kg ha-1). The seed yield was significantly affected by the sowing dates and it seriously decreased as sowing date was delayed (481 kg ha-1 higher in 20 February compared to 5 April over the average of two years). As a result, because of sowing dates is a crucial factor for seed and oil yield of safflower, sowing should be done as early as possible in the spring. © 2023, Society of Field Crops Science. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
